24v A/C supply problem
CCTV_Suppliers replied to Bam_Bam_of_Atlanta's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Who is the maker and what is the model number of your power supply?? -
Is this a new problem that you started encounting now or is a pre-existing problem for a while? I do not think the problem has any merit with the network connection. Sounds like that either your power supply is going bad or more likely your hard drive(s). How old is the system? If it under warranty, you can have it repaired at no cost... Providing that if your power supply is good, then you an change the hard drives without any problems... All you have to do afterwords is to make sure that you add specific software that resides on the drive (it is a very simple addition)...

If you want to go with Geo option, then it is great and you can manage everything.. If you want embedded system that delivers the goods, then there are few options that give you excellent performance and very good playback picture quality. 1. Bosch DIVAR series is one option. Dependent on hard drive configuration, the pricing could vary between $1,600.00 to $2,500.00.. The model numbers in mind are DVR-8K-016A to DVR-8L-100A and few variations in the middle. 2. CBC makes one of the decent DVRs in the market.. with their DR8N series, you can get them without any hard drives or DVD burners and add what you need... The pricing could vary between $800.00 to $1,900.00. The model numbers in mind are DR8N to DR8NC-1.5TB and quite of few variations in the middle 3. Panasonic solution is yet another decent option. The models in mind are covered in WJ-HD220 series and there are two models to choose from.. 160GB and 320GB storage and pricing could vary between $1,600.00 to $1,900.00 4. Mitsubishi DX-TL4509U series - there are four models to choose from going from 250GB to 1TB internal storage and pricing around $1,900.00 to $2,900.00 range. 5. Sanyo Cheetah series (DSR-3709H).. Decent solution and yet provides very good performance. Quite of few options avail due to variations of hard drives and with or without CD burners... Pricing averages between $1,300.00 to $2,500.00 There are many other options from above manufacturers and as well as from American Dynamics, GE Security and few others that have much higher pricing. Bottom line here is regardless which one you choose, you will get excellent performance for the price and yet still get three years warranty and unlimited technical support (in case of Bosch, once their technical support determines that the product is defective, they will overnight you another system and pay the shipping costs at both end covering the cost for you to return it back). Hope this helps.. and if you have any other questions, let me know or PM..

Panasonic solution is an excellent option and I concur with our member on his recommendations... Another option will be to look at combination of Panasonic and Sanyo solutions, which should save some money. I am sure there could be many other variations, so hopefully other members can give you some ideas. One area that I personally will not compromise, if I were in your shoes - is warranty... regardless which models you get and who the manufacturer is, make sure that you do not discount this important options when selecting your hardware. - Industry standard is three years, so that gives you a lot of protection and service, when needed.. Here are some of my observations. For the above locations, I will recommend Sanyo Minidome part number VDC-C1574VA and here are some of its specs: * Sanyo Vandal Proof MiniDome * 520 TV Lines of Horizontal Resolution * 2.6-6.0mm Varifocal AI lens * Wide Dynamic Range performance * 24V AC and 12V DC, Dual Power Operation * Easy installation, easy adjustment and easy set-up * Vandal-resistant Dome & Weatherproof design (IP66) * Built-in Motion Detection and Privacy Masking Functions Pricing should around $[edit by mod-no dealer prices plz] For this one, I will suggest Panasonic WV-CP484 camera and Tokina 2.8mm - 12.5mm AutoIris Lens (of course you will need camera mounting hardware and you can use Panavise Dual option mount). With this camera you will not have the picture to "wash off" during or after any lighting changes. Here are some of its specs: # Higher horizontal resolution of 540-line (typical) at color mode, and 570-line at B/W mode. # Minimum illumination: 0.5 lux (0.05 fc) at color mode, 0.06 lux (0.006 fc) at B/W mode, at F1.2 optional lens 0.6 lux (0.06 fc) at color mode, .08 lux (0.008 fc) at B/W mode, at F1.4 optional lens # Innovative intelligent features: Auto Back Focus (ABF) adjustment function, for easy focus at installation and remote focus fine tuning (up-the-coax or via network by WJ-HD300 Series) after installation. Auto image stabilizer function for applications where vibration or wind is a concern, e.g. passing vehicles. *Scene change detection alarms when lens is covered, spray painted, removed, defocused or camera angle is changed. # Signal to noise ratio of 50dB. # Digital motion detector. # Menu setup can be displayed in 8 (eight) languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Chinese and Japanese. # 16-alphanumeric character display. # Electronic shutter from 1/60 (off) to 1/10,000 sec. # Electronic sensitivity enhancement (auto/manual/off). # Digital signal processing LSI's for high quality picture: 2H vertical enhancement, chroma averaging circuit, minimum of aliasing, knee circuit, and highlight aperture correction. # Gen-lock capability for the large system application. # VD2 sync capability with Panasonic system products. Combo for this camera, the lens and for the camera mounts should be around $[edit by mod-no dealer prices plz] You should use the same Panasonic camera above and place it into an outdoor housing with heater and blower (to maintain clean evironment against dust or moisture). The housing is a dime a dozen and I will recommend it from American Dynamics. Combo pricing for this camera and the outdoor housing should be around $[edit by mod-no dealer prices plz] Well, this is a no brainer... most and if not all the DVRs come with remote connection... If you have the preference with GEO, then stay with it... I am sure it will be very handy when you have to maintain the system One suggestion that I can interject is to consider embedded system that does not require any software maintenance. There are quite of few these type of systems in the market. If you can tell us how many ports DVR you may need, then I am sure we can give you several options to choose from. I have not purchased anything yet, and I am ready to go with this project. We have our service vehicles parked out back and have had several break ins. Thank you guys for your suggestions. Lew

As long as your are referring to data transmission, you are safe up to 1,000'

I will recommend embedded 8 position system with at least 500GB drive and minidomes indoors... Few of the minidomes should have at least WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) capability to allow filtering of lighting changes during the day. Otherwise, the rest could be high res color minidomes and should work fine. There are quite of few manufacturers... What is important for you? Warranty? Ease of install, etc? Your budget sounds reasonable, so my suggestion will be to go with brand name complete system.. There are excellent options avail from companies called CBC, Sanyo and few others, all of which can meat your budget figures. Installation part, well, you can bring a local installer or can request to have all the pre-made cables, so that you can do it yourself... Some more info from your end could result more specific hardware that I and other can recommend.

Standalone DVR vs PC-Based DVR
CCTV_Suppliers replied to si_kungs's topic in General Digital Discussion
No difference - it is dependent on the type of NIC card either systems have, but for Internet viewing, you will not see much of any difference. -
GE SymSafe4+2 is an excellent box with all the trimmings, including MPEG4 compression, capable of taking up to 1.5TB internal storage or more externally, build in CD or DVD burner, three years warranty, etc... However, you gave a budget figure not to exceed $2,000.00, therefore the only model that could fall withing this range is SymSafe4+2-160 - which is the 160GB internal storage... This model comes with Real-time MPEG-4 recording and you can push the video quality darn near to DVD quality... however.. storage will be an issue, as it will require tremendous amount of storage space to accommodate what you want to do. It is an excellent box, but by the time you put all the components together and maintain storage requirements, the price will be substantially higher than you think.. You can always start with 160GB and go from there... I know that many times we will buy this model with minimum storage and then add up to 1.5TB internal storage (system has space for two PATA drives), thus minimize the cost directly and instead of paying high price for similar configured box directly from GE...

24v AC power affect a 12v DC camera? Sanyo power?
CCTV_Suppliers replied to Bam_Bam_of_Atlanta's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
No Sanyo power supplies... They do not even make them, rather OEM anyway. There are quite of few manufacturers. You can get 40VA or 50VA 24VAC transformers for around $10.00 and that will me more than what you need for these cameras... My choice goes with either Altronix or Amseco... I personally prefer Amseco, as it comes with built in resettable switch... -
How about a software that will work with your existing hardware by using encoder (to convert your analog camera signal to digital) and all you have to do is to provide your own XP based PC?? I am thinking of CBC ZNS-BASIC software that gives you tremendous advantage vs. most out there... Pricing should be under $250.00 and will give you four camera view and control. Once you convert your existing video signal to digital, then you will be able to view them through this software. It is very flexible and yet easy to use... This way you can use your existing computer and add as much internal storage as you need. Besides, you can also install your own DVD burner...

Ron, since you used Sanyo DVR before, I can suggest looking at their latest MPEG-4 embedded 4 channel DVR... Here are some of specs... Sanyo DSR-2004H80 4-Channel MPEG4 DVR, 4-Audio input, Network, viewing software, IR Remote * MPEG 4 Recording for Low Bit Rate, High Picture Quality, and Optimal Storage Capability * 160 or 300 GB Storage Capacity * Recording Speed up to 120 ips * Camera Recording Rates are Individually Adjustable from 1 to 30 ips * Triplex Capability - Simultaneous Recording, Playback, and Network Monitoring * Built-in Motion Detection for Alarm Recording * LIVE Capture Allows Still Image Output of Live Images * Easy Search Functions - Event Search, Time/Date Search, Time Line Search * PTZ Telemetry Control Capability * IR Remote Control (Included) of up to Nine DVRs * Supports Composite and VGA Monitor Outputs * Two Way Audio Over the Network * Easy Backup of BMP or JPEG Still Images and AVI Files with USB Memory Stick * Supports DHCP for Automatic IP Address Assignment * Also Supports TCP/IP, SMTP & PPPoE * Supports up to Four Concurrent Network Users * Auto Recording with Optimum File Size The box can provide 120IPS total, which will give you 30IPS per camera, if needed. There are additional information here: http://www.sanyosecurity.com/ and search for the model #DSR-2004H It comes with few internal storage flavors - 80, 160 or 300GB... However, you can add more storage without any problems (we do them all the time). Picture quality is exceptional, as the compression they are using is MPEG-4 and gives you quite of few options... The only drawback is that it does not come with CD or DVD burner.. 300GB model should be under $900.00 Here is yet another similar product from CBC... CBC DR4NC series... You can get them without hard drives and add what you need or you can purchase them with hard drives with total internal capacity up to 1TB... Here are some of its specs: * CBC 4 channel DVR With NO internal storage * Uses MPEG-4 Compression * 4 channel video and audio recording * 120 IPS recording speed * Up to 704 x 480 (4CIF/D1) resolution * Optimized MPEG-4 compression * 10/100 Base Network Connection allows remote viewing, playback and PTZ control * USB-2 Port for quick downloading to a thumb drive * Internal CD-R drive for data backup * PTZ control (drivers for most popular models are included) The basic system without hard drives should be around $600.00 and you can add drives to get up to 1.5TB if you want (using 750GB PATA drives). or you can buy them with 1.5TB internal capacity... This model comes with built in CD burner. Both options will give you excellent picture quality and ease of use and yet is way below your target pricing... Both models also come with full three years warranty. Will these models do the trick for you?

Elec noise in camera image in UTP cable via passive balun
CCTV_Suppliers replied to imtiyaz.my's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Which passive baluns are you using? 130M is roughly 425 feet, so cable length to transfer video using CAT5E is fine. Are you powering up these cameras through the same cable or are they localized within where camera is located? Some answers from your end will render better solutions that we can offer. -
Has anyone played with this IP minidome? http://computarganz.com/product_view.cfm?product_id=275 It has some impressive specs.. Just received a sample to play with.. It comes with its own software that looks fairly easy to install and setup.. Two compression methods for the video (MPEG-4 and MJPEG), two way audio and VGA resolution... Power either POE or local power supply. Not bad for the price of less than $400... Any thoughts?

How about CBC DR16N-750 DVR with less than $1,500.00? Here is the url for specs: http://www.computarganz.com/product_view.cfm?product_id=411 Comes with full three years warranty... If you are handy with computers, you can get the unit without hard drives and add your own.. It is an embedded system, so hard drives are used only to store video and hard drives do not contain any OS or applications... Hope this helps.

How many ports of the DVR? As for the cameras, indoor or outdoor and do you want in minidome format or "brick" type of camera?

What MFR Hard Drive do you have Installed?
CCTV_Suppliers replied to magicsid's topic in Digital Video Recorders
From experience, we had seen too many commercial grade drives fail regardless of the manufacturer. I know that Maxtor took the top award of having the worst drives made in the market due to design and manufacturing flaw, but WD and Seagate were not too far behind... Commercial grade drives are designed to operate 12 hours per day and that stand true with every manufacturer. Once you start pushing these drives 24/7, the obvious problems start coming forward, mostly causing the drive to fail way before its warranty period. The main cause of such failures were "heat" build up and not enough air flow... and then of course, design problems and even worse, manufacturing issues. There was another grade of drives we used before that were for "server" markets, but with introduction with Surveillance Grade drives from both Seagate and WD, it took off like brash fire... I have a preference of Seagate drives vs. WD drives fro few reasons - warranty being the first - Seagate offer 5 years warranty vs. WD who offers 3 years warranty. Second, turn around for the defective drives is more efficient with Seagate than WD. Third, after using technical support for both companies, Seagate did come through with better results, not much, but still better. On the other hand if the warranty is not as important, then I will recommend WD, as the pricing is lower vs. Seagate. PATA drives are coming out of the market and being replaced by SATA. I have seen pricing for the same size PATA drives higher than SATA, which is in line what both manufacturers are saying - PATA drives are in their last stretch of existence... What is coming into the market as well called SAS drives - Serial SCSI drives. At the moment the maximum size for these drive is 300GB and extremely expensive - 15K RPM and much faster read/right than even standard SCSI drives (sometime referred to as parallel SCSI drives)... -

What MFR Hard Drive do you have Installed?
CCTV_Suppliers replied to magicsid's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Seagate surveillance grade drives are what we use... Here are part numbers: 500GB SATA - ST3500630SV 750GB SATA - ST3750640SV I do not have the part number for 1TB SATA drive at the moment... They are fairly well prices and come with 5 years warranty... -
Samsung BW-2302 Camera
CCTV_Suppliers replied to twentyampdave's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Not sure... but most likely it has something to do with grounding, which will be required for 12VDC termination... -
Nothing special about the tool... go to Home Depot and they have them...

Samsung BW-2302 Camera
CCTV_Suppliers replied to twentyampdave's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Just do this... pick up standard RG-59 coax cable with BNC connectors from local store. Attach one side to the camera and the the other side to your BNC to RCA Adapter and then connect to your monitor... Also, make sure that you are power up the camera correctly... If you are using 24VAC transformer, make sure that the lead of this transformer is connected correctly to the camera.. It will be a different connection if you are using 12VDC supply... so, make sure that this is done correctly. I think the problem could be the cable that you are using or connection to provide power to the camera or both.... -
1500 meter
CCTV_Suppliers replied to osamasaadah's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
1,500 meter is roughly 5,000' and since the wireless is out of the question and you know nothing about the fiber, then you have only one solutions left... Active baluns to transfer video only by using CAT5E cable. As for power of 12VDC, you need to provide it local to the camera within 100' distance or less. Active baluns technology will give you this coverage and there are various sources where this type of solutions are avail... I am sure other member will jump in to help, but from what I see, active balun technology is the only solution for your application... Hope this helps. -
Samsung BW-2302 Camera
CCTV_Suppliers replied to twentyampdave's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
This is a fairly decent b&w camera with 570TVL of resolution, 1/3" and works with both 24VAC and 12VDC power sources.. I do not understand when you refer that you want to connect this camera to a composite monitor.... What type of monitor is it? Is it tube monitor or LCD? Is it a CCTV monitor or a computer monitor? Since this camera output uses BNC connector, it is possible to connect this camera to non-bnc input based monitors... example regular TV will do as long as it has external video in with RCA connector - then all you will need is BNC to RCA adapter and your are ready to rock and roll.. What type of cables are you using? With some answers from your end, I am sure we can come up with solid solutions... -
To get the picture quality what you customer probably wants will not be achieved by this camera or most of the cameras with WDR or some chipsets... What your camera is fighting is trying to focus on variation of light and reflection of light mostly during the day and as long as this camera faces the door, not much will change. For this type of setups, I will recommend Panasonic CP484 camera. Pricing is what it is and it probably is much more expensive than what you currently paid, but for obtaining the best quality video by facing the camera towards the door and with lighting conditions change frequently during the day, this camera will do the magic... Just my two cents of the day...
