Looks like you and other member covered a lot of the majors.. Here are that are missing.. American Dynamics UltraDome VIII Ge Security - well they have too many variations, so it will be very difficult to pick which one, unless if you can tell us what type of mounting hardware you need, Zoom capability, dome cover, etc... Sanyo - they make very decent outdoor or even indoor domes and work great... except their controller are not what you call user friendly. The will conform with most known and popular protocols from Pelco, AD and even Panasonic... As for the price range, it is possible, but not probable With $1,500 you can get all the internal guts of the dome, but once you start looking at the outdoor housing with heater and blower, then that is an expense that need to be addressed... Panasonic's dome probably will give the best best video quality picture among all of the above choices, but they are not cheap at all... Sanyo domes held up very well in our recent installations where we mixed it with various controllers from American Dynamics, Panasonic and even Bosch (we end up using translator)... Here is the url for their low end day/night domes with 30X optical zoom - http://www.sanyosecurity.com/pdf/cctv/inst/ccd(ntsc)/vccmc500_600.pdf - This series comes in few flavors, so let us know type of housing you need, what type of mounting hardware, etc... Hope this helps.

Standalone DVR vs PC-Based DVR

The amount of 24VAC power that you need is very much dependent on the length of the 18/2 cable that you will use. If your cables lengths are less than 100', the you can use Altronix basic ALTV248 power supply and it will work fine. If the cables are longer (less than 250'), then you still can use Altronix 4 channel power supply with higher current ratings like ALTV244175 (7.25A total available) or even higher ALTV244300 (14A total available). Altronix power supplies come with basic power cord except one side must be connected to internal transformer and card to step down 120VAC down to 24VAC... It is not as simple as plugging the cord, rather connecting 3 wires internally to provide the 120VAC juice... Very interesting set of hardware when being used for home.. You will get the best quality picture available for the price for your Panasonic cameras and domes. Since I am not familiar with AVerMedia DVRs, can not say much, but with this type of camera equipment, insist of getting one of the best DVRs to observe one of the best playback quality pictures available.

Yes... I am not sure how much will you save however..

No more than 500'... Otherwise the video degrades... It was not meant to be used as a replacement of the standard RG59, rather what you used as well - patch cables, and short distance runs that requires smaller size cables.

Kalatel DVMRe hard disk problem
CCTV_Suppliers replied to maquilina's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Michael, they will work... A suggestion if I may... Do not use commercial version drives that you normally can get from your local electronics stores... Consider using the Surveillance grade drives, which are designed to operate 24/7 compared to 12 hours that commercial grade drives... Cost is marginal, but well worth it... We mainly use Seagate version of these drives from 250GB to 1TB and they come with 5 years warranty, which is yet another major benefit... -

Shoot... looks like they removed it... Quickest way will be to contact their tech support... and tell them that you want the url for the utility that is required to be run after changing the hard drives... If not successful, let me know.. I can send you that utility on CD... -
Yup... I am still waiting for one of their newest reps other than you know who...

That a...hole in New York most likely is who I think it is... and you could have bypassed him very easily.. but, you are the customer and they should have known better by having this person to be your point contact. Not much I am sure can be done, but if you are still in the mood to talk to someone at their upper management, please let me know. I can open some doors for you... As for Bosch, I know not only their regional manager, but also their local rep, who actually is extremely good on his knowledge and the support. He helped us to put together some very complex systems and from my experience, if he was involved, chances are good that he would not have back peddled... Business never happens between two companies, rather happens between two people that can at least trust each others opinions and find common language that clarifies many aspects of what you, the customer, needs in respect to what they, the vendors, can provide. Sometimes the customers being very intelligent and extremely knowledgeable on a topic can and does intimidate vendors - vendors do not want to look like a jackass on front of you or any customer... I know how you feel about both companies and it is because they lost the great opportunity that you could have presented for them. That is why others had a chance and I am happy to hear that they delivered on their promise... However, no one manufacturer can deliver a complete solution regardless who they are. In your setup, you picked best of the best and was able to integrate them all properly, thus you created your own system. What I ask is never say never about any manufacturer and trust me, I have made my own mistakes in the last 29 years and I mainly rely on my experience more than an information. I can tell you that in the recent six month or so, Bosch proven to be much more aggressive and reliable than most and was able to accommodate few very critical projects for us. That of course did not happen between our companies, rather between us and one of their local reps, who has done a great job thus far.

I wish I knew who you dealt with at Bosch and even at AD... Like always, two companies never do business together, only two people conduct business from their respective companies. You also know my take on Pelco, so I understand your frustration and pressure. Give Bosch a second look... and let me know what you think. We are local to you and not only can get you the demo and the support, but also answer any and all questions pertinent to any of their lines from CCTV, to Perimeter Security product or even Access Control.. This is no way mean that I am fully endorsing Bosch across the board, but comparatively speaking, they have done much better job than most majors out there... As for AD, well the only thing that is different is the introduction of Trident and the rest is basically the same. Few changes in their Intellex Ultra product line, few more different IP cameras mostly from Sony, and their latest offering on Matrix switch replacement, which they call it "Virtual Matrix" that is being controlled by a single computer... but that is all..

CCTV_Suppliers replied to maquilina's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Well, as long as they would have paid for your trip to U.S., then I am sure you would have agreed right? and then probably you would have taught them few things I am sure.. Working with them for so many years, somehow it feels that GE has been and still is completely out of touch with the industry.. It is amazing how they think on what we should do and not do... and they missed the boat already... However, they have the money and that is what keeps them around. Did you know recently they discontinued their matrix switches completely except for customers who need such hardware for 1,000 cameras or more? When we asked them why, well they feel that most of the people do not need matrix switches, as they can buy their DVRs to emulate this feature... which of course is at much higher price than their average cost of such matrix systems... amazing... -
Hey bud, stop by Bosch booth... They have very impressive solutions in place that I am sure can get your attention. They are covering very broad range of products and applications that fits all levels of small and large organizations.. We just concluded a project with all Bosch product line with IP solution, perimeter security and access control and the entire project was using everything Bosch.. The outcome was better than we expected.. Another one to check can be Trident solution that now became one of the offerings from Tyco Security.. Very slick box operating on top of Linux and interesting how it performs simple tasks... I will be there for Wednesday only flying in early and coming back the same night.. Have to meet few people and that is all.. Have fun..

Kalatel DVMRe hard disk problem
CCTV_Suppliers replied to maquilina's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Basically the same power supplies... If I recall it correctly, the DVMRe power supplies are higher rated... regardless, the power requirements for both are enough to handle for addition of two hard drives... and it does not matter if it is two 40GB or two 750GB... We were not too convinced if it will work too, but after testing aggressively for few weeks in-house and installing them in quite of few places for at least last three years, the proof is, well, it works! If you were to call and talk to GE tech support, they will give you a lot of mumble and jumble why it will not work or that you have to send your system to them for their own "upgrade" procedure... It will be total waste of anyone time and money going that route... It works and that is the bottom line! -
Looking for some help on a system for a gym -Cameras and DVR
CCTV_Suppliers replied to drcworld's topic in System Design
From what I can see, all you want are internal cameras and no mention about cameras for outside.. Not sure why you need bullet cameras, as they are very cheesy looking for an establishment like this gym... For $200.00 per camera with decent quality picture and with three years warranty is a good budget... you should easily be able to get hi res color cameras with 520TVL or 540TVL resolution, the lens and the mount that can fall within this budget. OR, you can get hi res color minidome package that will perform as well... It will be your preference which type you like. In similar gyms, I have seen both types and even mixture of both. Either way, your choice of the budget will allow to cover both options. Here are some options for the cameras: Option 1 - Sanyo VCC-6584 520TVL camera, Tokina Lens TVR2714DC lens (2.7mm - 12.5mm) AutoIris, and camera mount... Option 2 - Sanyo VCC-9684VA with 540TVL camera and lens covering 2.8mm - 8.0mm AutoIris As for the DVR, the only option that I can provide is from Sanyo Embedded 6 ports model - DSR-3506H80 that falls within your budget, very easy to program and use, Internet ready and comes with full three years warranty... Once you push the number of port higher than 6 channels, then price can go higher and I am sure other member can jump in for their recommendations.. My options for 8 channel DVRs will not be less than $1,000, so it is worth to get other opinions... Hope this helps and please let me know if we can be any further assistance. -
Kalatel DVMRe hard disk problem
CCTV_Suppliers replied to maquilina's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Michael, all you need is ATA drive and I belive you have space to add two drives... Since the majority of the functionality is embedded, thus the drives mainly are used for storage... except one section that allows programming the remote connection files. After you add the drives, you have to make sure to run this utility in order to allow your remote connection files to be in order and the rest, well, the DVR will take over due to its internal firmware setting. Here is what you do.. take out the defective drive and add two 500GB ATA drives (go with Seagate Surveillance grade drives) and this way your system internal storage will increase from 80GB to 1TB. There is one more step that you have to do when changing drives - there is a utility available in GE website that you must run allowing it to install on your first hard drive necessary files that will allow you to program remote connect files... and the rest will work fine. Another suggestion - check with GE website and see if your version of the firmware with this DVR contains their latest revision and if not, download their newest firmware upgrade and following instructions that normally come with such upgrades. Once you install it, then you have their latest firmware and functionality of the DVR... Most likely you will see faster operating DVR with their latest revision firmware upgrade. We even have few of these type of system running with 1.5TB internal storage by using two 750GB ATA drives and they work great. If you attempt to talk to GE technical support, they will tell you that it is not possible - because it does not pay them for you to do this. Since this product of yours is out of warranty, then you can do whatever you please and from my experience, you can increase your internal storage capacity up to 1.5TB without any problems... Good luck. -
I have options from CBC, Mitsubishi, American Dynamics and few others... Please PM your requirements and see what we can do.
-
We are using the Surveillance Grade drives and there are only two models avail from Seagate... one for 500GB and another one is for 750GB and as long as they are PATA drives they work perfectly. Sorry I do not have the part numbers with me at the moment.. We were told many things by Ge about this DVR that will not work, will not perform, etc.. but using these type of drives, it has been a blessing, as we easily can convert these type of boxes to 1TB or 1.5TB and they work just fine.
-
Any preference on the brand and the warranty? Or, is the driving force the price? Does it have to be all from the same manufacturer? Any realistic price points that we should be aware? Any system resolution specs that you can share - i.e. 60FPS thru 480FPs dependent on the box?
-
Can you elaborate little more on this please? 1. How many channels per DVR do you need. 4, 8, 9 or 16? 2. Internal storage capacity? 3. With or without CD or DVD burner? Let us know.

Panasonic I-pro Network Dome Camera.
CCTV_Suppliers replied to toughman's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Several to choose from and not necessarily in a specific order 1. NWD-455V03-20P from Bosch 2. 3012-FB-EVQ - Covi - somewhat different than conventional IP vs. Analog. 3. Various choices from Axis Technologies - total of eight various types available here: http://www.axis.com/products/video/camera/fixed_domes/index.htm I know that CBC and Sanyo are working on their versions of minidome IP cameras, but not available at the moment... I am sure that are other manufacturers that will be mentioned in this post from other members... Hope this helps. -
Here is yet another technology emerging into the market... I think it is the same technology article... http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080309/tc_nm/security_britain_technology_dc Sun Mar 9, 7:21 AM ET LONDON (Reuters) - A British company has developed a camera that can detect weapons, drugs or explosives hidden under people's clothes from up to 25 meters away in what could be a breakthrough for the security industry. The T5000 camera, created by a company called ThruVision, uses what it calls "passive imaging technology" to identify objects by the natural electromagnetic rays -- known as Terahertz or T-rays -- that they emit. The high-powered camera can detect hidden objects from up to 80 feet away and is effective even when people are moving. It does not reveal physical body details and the screening is harmless, the company says. The technology, which has military and civilian applications and could be used in crowded airports, shopping malls or sporting events, will be unveiled at a scientific development exhibition sponsored by Britain's Home Office on March 12-13. "Acts of terrorism have shaken the world in recent years and security precautions have been tightened globally," said Clive Beattie, the chief executive of ThruVision. "The ability to see both metallic and non-metallic items on people out to 25 meters is certainly a key capability that will enhance any comprehensive security system." While the technology may enhance detection, it may also increase concerns that Britain is becoming a surveillance society, with hundreds of thousands of closed-circuit television cameras already monitoring people countrywide every day. ThruVision came up with the technology for the T5000 in collaboration with the European Space Agency and from studying research by astronomers into dying stars. The technology works on the basis that all people and objects emit low levels of electromagnetic radiation. Terahertz rays lie somewhere between infrared and microwaves on the electromagnetic spectrum and travel through clouds and walls. Depending on the material, the signature of the wave is different, so that explosives can be distinguished from a block of clay and cocaine is different from a bag of flour. Amazing...

Yes... and it works.. Just make sure you have the latest firmware that you can download from GE website... We had it working with two 750GB PATA drives and reaching to 1.5TB internal storage and no problems reported...

Hey bud, we are well aware how to sell and how to buy and I do not think we need a lesson about these processes... Instead making a point as Mikesus mention, there is another member here that I can tell you that has taken quite of few people here for money and he still posts and you know exactly who I am referring to.. I understand that you have to act politically and do not want to get involved nor make any comments about such characters, but at one point of time, you should reconsider your approach about this type of topic... At the end, it is your and this forum's reputation that is keeping such shady and criminal characters... and as a contributing member, I rather have these type of characters not to be part of this community...

Well for us folks that are trying to set up a home setup, we are on budgets. We have learned a lot here, and we have found brand name stuff on Ebay from reputable sellers. (I have 3 Panasonic CP484's that I got for the retail price of 1, and 2 of them were brand new. 1 was from a company that gets lost shipments, and the others were from a wholesale lot buyer) So, yes it can be how things are, but this guy is deliberately trying to mislead folks, and has no qualms about doing it. Very Shady... Mikesus, definitely shady... Actually I can add another member here that is not only shady, but also taken several members in this forum of their money, changed his login name and still is part of this forum... Unfortunately ColinR knows about this person and does not want to address it... It is very sad, but is a fact!
