Welcome on board... Based on what you wrote so far, I personnaly will suggest you to consider getting into this business... First and foremost, you have an extensive amount of experience in computer repairs that is a very big plus.. afterall, camera equipment is simpler technology than computers... Another major plus that I can see is your customer base that you accumulated throughout the years, which I am sure will be interested on what you can do besides repairing their computers. It could take you a short period of time to learn different camera technologies available, but it is the same in computer technologies that you learned before... Just spent the time, took a chance, probably damaged some of them as you were learning until you perfected the process.. and that is called experience.. I think you will do well... Just roll the dice and go forward. Selecting manufacturers or resellers, well, it is not anything different when you were or still are buying for your computer repairs... At one point of time, you can be your best teacher knowing what not to purchase... Afterall, your customers now expect nothing less than your best and providing camera equipment is not an exception... Good luck to you my friend.. and if you have any questions, never hesitate to ask...

Here are some more questions if I may. 1. Do you want to catch these bastards on video? Lets say you did, can you have your local police department to use your video to prosecute them? Dependent where you live, cops may not even do anything, rather may tell you to take these people to court and take your chances. 2. How about installing a camera housing with built in fixed camera and lens? A lot of time, when people do see that camera housing, they could be deterred... If not, at least you gave them a chance to back off (sometimes courts will insist on the fact that if you have taken measure to deter rather to catch... something has to do with the laws and people's privacy... and again, it depends where you live). 3. How is the lighting conditions on front of your property? If you do not have good lighting, then install a motion detector based lights or you have to consider more expensive camera equipment... 4. B&W cameras will respond better at night, as their LUX levels are much lower than most color cameras.. Again, do you want to see these bastards in action and also see what color shirts are they wearing? Color cameras will not cut the mustard.. you have to use day/night cameras so that you can observe picture in color during the day and B&W during the night.. Be careful on our selection... and the models you select. What is very common now is people using good quality bullet cameras, that give you excellent color during the day, very good picture quality during the night (with some light present) and even viewable picture during pitch dark (certain models of such bullets cameras are better than most). Please get back to us with some more answers and then I think you will have several solid options for your home use... By the way... which DVR do you have or consider to purchase and why?

Day/Night cameras...
CCTV_Suppliers replied to libertysurveillance's topic in General Digital Discussion
I think this topic was covered in this forum before... Rory do you remember?? We had best of the best cameras from all the major manufacturers (Bosch, GE Security, Sanyo, Panasonic, ExtremeCCTV, American Dynamics and CBC).... The second condition was that the pricing had to be less than $500. We understand that someone can spend over $10K or more per camera (yes over $10,000 and even more), but out intention was to determine who can provide the best technology camera in the below of midrange pricing... that could be avail to most, rather than selected few.. Test involved having the cameras viewing an area that had very bright and very dark areas plus a truck pulling into the bay and having an open container rear door with boxed merchandise half away into the 20' container. Also, tests were conducted during the day and also at night (night condition also was to have a single flood light roughly 50' away from the test area)... Results were very interesting, as the manufacturers were available to make sure that their respective components were adjusted to their "maximum" level... Considering the "extreme" condition tests, 3 of the models were automatically were disqualified... (I will not state which ones to respect the manufacturers integrity).. Then we had the shoot out with the remaining 4 candidates... At the end, the actual competition remained between Bosch (their 1/3" day/night did not qualify, so they brought in their day/night 1/2" candidate) and Panasonic (their 1/3" day/night camera) - I am sure you may already guess which ones I am referring to... End results were that Panasonic did edge Bosch few percentage point, regardless the fact that Bosch's best was also $100+ more than Panasonic's camera... I will say based on this extreme test, Panasonic is still provides the best picture quality for the price... not a cheap option, but the best performer.. Now, I am sure others will jump into this and I am sure everyone will have their say - trust me, I like a good challenge.. but my answer is not based on an opinion, rather facts... Any situation that requires a solution due to its extreme light change conditions, our solution is always to use Panasonic CP-484 SDIII technology -
Anyone have any experience with CCTV.net?
CCTV_Suppliers replied to jstory's topic in General Digital Discussion
I remember that they bought this website from Richardson Electronics (recently they were bought by ADI) and Ii think they paid very dearly... Besides that, not sure what they exactly do... sorry If you had a bad experience with their sales person, why not call and ask someone at their management and I am sure you will have someone's attention? Just because a sales person who probably had a bad day should not constitute a company behavior... at least my 2 cents... -
Rapid, Intellex 4.1 does not and will not work on Win2000... When American Dynamics introduced 4.0 Intellex, operating platform was changed from Win2000 to WinXP... Just a simple correction to your quote if I may... When you are upgrading from Intellex 3.2 to 4.0 or higher, such upgrade includes XP operating system change as well.. You can try installing Intellex 4.0+ application on Win2K, but none of Windows calls and hooks will operate with Intellex application.. It also will not work on Vista, which itself has newer sets of calls and hooks... I am sure one of the newer versions of Intellex in few years will probably go to Vista, but for now... On the other hand, your 4.1 Network Client or latest Intellex player are backwards compatible with any older version of Intellex systems (we tried all the way to version 2.2, which probably still exists in the market)..

I am not familiar with MACE product line and chances it could be a good product... and can not make any comment good or bad. However for the price range, you have quite of few options... I can only make recommendations on major manufacturers, sorry do not have any knowledge on others... Look into CBC, Sanyo, Bosch and few others... In order to give you more precise info, you did not mention if you want color and B&W solution... Will Minidome be the only route for you or will you consider well made bullet camera with all the essentials? With some more info, I am sure our members can give you several options to choose from...

From our experience, if you already visited the programming and in order to have to autofocus to come back, then chances are very good that the circuitry that controls the autofocus near the lens is going out.... This is mostly caused by SMT caps that the circuitry contains.. Unless you know how to take this pup apart, take the circuit board out, replace all the SMT capt, my suggestion is to verify if this dome is under warranty and if so, arrange GE to take care of it... otherwise, you have other choices... GE can have this pup repaired and dependent how old it is, it may be worth to have them to repair it (such repair will come with 90 days warranty) or you can take it to a shooting range and have a blast with it 7mm bolt action rifle normally works great... We have not had many problems with GE domes, but after all it is electronics.. and it is alway WHEN and not IF they will fail... Good luck to you and let us know what happens.

Has anyone ever worked with or knows anything about IntelleView software that is a POS Transaction Monitoring Solution?
-
Rory, the IntelleView operates on top of Intellex platform or comes in a server version that can communicate with unlimited number of POS systems and Intellex systems simultaneously (each port for Intellex could be assigned to a specific POS register that is near by such video camera).. It is a PC based system and the newest version operates on XP environment... Very stable and easy to use... The difficult part is to have the right parser that interprets POS language to ASCII and then recognizes each transaction.. It requires parsing regardless which POS system it may be.. that is the reason why it comes with very advanced search capabilities (sometimes called data mining capabilities)... You can have case management run on a specific targets and compile a complete case by using as many clips as yo may find based on your search and identifying the person or persons and the actual transactions will be running while you are viewing the video.. Once you export the case, then it runs perfectly on any Windows based machines, even on Win 98...

How does this system look? Can you sell me a cheaper one?
CCTV_Suppliers replied to Snow_death's topic in Security Cameras
&*@&*#! system is about to crash help -
Your integrator was totally misinformed and I know that for a fact... The whole entire IntelleView team was fired early 2005, including the head engineer, but none of the work was deleted or damaged... That is not and will never be possible, as I know how IntelleView project gets saved. Then AD hired a company in India call Emphasis, who actually was suppose to carry the ball and they had a very light success rate... With their assistance, AD was successful in delivering several Casinos and major retail outlet (some of whom are our customers). In addition, other major retailers have been using this product, with some revision changes, since 2000 - and for obvious reasons, I will keep such customers names out of this discussion... IntelleView will operate only with Intellex API platform.. that is the rule and the code can not be changed. It is a contractual obligation not necessarily impossible task... AD was not sure what to do with this product and that is when we got involved... and were able to obtain worldwide license for the IntelleView (Call Seevid and they will tell you where IntelleView is parked at the moment). This acquisition took place early this year, even though we were selling this product for the last at least (5) years... We sold (6) major chains and were not receiving the support, thus gave us an opportunity for discussions on possible take over and we did! IntelleView had to undergo very major changes to comply with all versions of Windows operating systems that it resided before (Win98 and Win2000) as well as the new platform (XP) – Intellex is not ready for Vista yet). Yes, it had some issues that required immediate attention (structural changes to comply with Windows hooks and calls mainly) and we concluded all the work only few months ago and started reactivating the channels for supporting the existing base and selling this product for newer customers. It works flawlessly and I would not have said the same when we acquired it… Now, when your integrator told you that Intellex Ultra has the same features and functions as IntelleView, he was providing you only what he had avail from AD, as we did not want to release the software until it went through a very vigorous changes... The Ultra version comes in a Intellex Premier embedded package, that gives you similar functions, but very primitive data mining capabilities... Searches are limited and not as in-depth as Casinos may need, but I know that major retailers must have… At the moment, it comes with 22 in-depth search criterias and the next version due by end of this year will have roughly 40+ combined data mining features… thus giving even more tools to identify anything that user desires.. I have a list of at least 40+ very large retail outfits, few casinos, a stadium, etc. that used this product since 2000 and all of which changed from its predecessor, called POSEM to IntelleView... If you remember, this was a product that was introduced mid-80s and actually survived until the introduction of IntelleView software. We have to provide support for all these systems, regardless who sold it and when they were sold, under warranty, off warranty or with extended warranty.. and this is how I know for a fact that IntelleView actually was sold since 2000. I believe casinos mostly use (2) different POS manufacturer products (we will keep their names out of this discussion as well).. We already partnered with one of them as a “Technology partnerâ€

Digital Video Security Development Kit
CCTV_Suppliers replied to scorpion's topic in General Digital Discussion

Best?: Panasonic WJ-HD316A, DM "New"DS2, Sanyo DSR
CCTV_Suppliers replied to markmarg215's topic in Digital Video Recorders
For simple home automation, the Sanyo box will do the trick... I am not familiar with (Crestron) and I am assuming that you want to use this software to trigger DVR to record specific events... Besides the fact that Pano DVR could cost at least (3) times more and functionality is not what you call "firendly", I will suggest to stay with the Sanyo DVR... If you need higher rate record capability, Sanyo also has their highest level DVR called "Tiger" series that performs better than your searched product code (which is Sanyo's Cheetah series).. NO proprietary viewer software is required.. You can use Microsoft IE.. and that is all. Dependent on the answer to the above, both Sanyo models will give you solid performance and yet least amount of headache on programming or functionality and leave enough cash for some deep sea fishing... If you have any other questions, we will be glad to help. -
Hey bud, this software has been in existence since early 2000... I am not sure which beta version you are referring to, but chances are good that they may have shown you their "latest at that time" operating on top of Intellex 3.2.. Otherwise, IntelleView worked and still works well on Intellex systems with version 2.6 and all the way to 4.1 version... What was your take on its uses and its functionality? Do you think that this product is for Casinos or rather for retail stores?? Just curious what was your point of view on this software. Thanks...

Just curious what people in this forum think of American Dynamics Intellex technology, regardless if it is in DVMS, LT, IP or Ulra versions?

American Dynamics Intellex DVRs
CCTV_Suppliers replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in Digital Video Recorders
If anyone is interested to sell me older or used Intellex systems, please contact me via PM... We can buy any quantity regardless if these units are functional or not, but has to contain all the original components... We completely overhaul them and then resale to our customer base. Thanks in advance! -
Mungk, excellent choice... CBC model above comes with remote control, so all your programming can happen using this device.. Jog wheels gets used often to program directly on the machine, so yes.. it is used a lot... in case if you loose the remote control:D I will PM you some more information shortly...
-
mungk, I can think of several models that could fit the bill.... 1. ADEDVR016008 - American Dynamics EDVR series... This model starts at 80G and goes up from there (up to 640G)... This model should be around around $1,300 and the model with 640G should be under $2,000... Comes with all the essentials, CD burner, Internet ready and it is embedded system and 3 years warranty... 2. DSR-3716H80 - Sanyo Cheetah series. This model also starts with 80G and goes up from there (up to 600G)... This model starts around $2,000... You can take this model up to 1.5TB internal storage by replacing the existing hard drive with (2) 750G PATA drives... Very easy system to use... Comes with 3 years warranty. CD Burner option costs extra, so I will not recomend the model with CD burner.. and it is embedded system. 3. DR16NC-250 - CBC - This model starts with 250G and comes with CD burner (you can get the same without CD burner save few dollars). You can order one with up to 750G internal storage... Pricing for the above model should be under $1,200 and the 750G model should be under $1,600... comes with 3 years warranty and it is an embedded system... Also, it comes with a remote control, so that you can program it from few feet away. All these above models are current offering from respective manufacturers... All are embedded and come with 3 years warranty. If you shop aggressively, you will find these products few dollars higher or lower, but pick the right supplier and ask a lot of questions... Besides, if anything does happen with any of these models and if the reseller is no longer available, you can always have them repaired under warranty with the respective manufacturers directly... Make sure you keep the receipts and the serial numbers.. and this is all... Let me know if you have any questions... I am sure other members will have other options available to you... Good luck!

Why all the secrecy at Aventura?
CCTV_Suppliers replied to spiderlee's topic in General Digital Discussion
Spiderlee, what you are experiencing is not new or will ever stop.. I am not familiar with Aventura either and heck, they may have a decent product, but what is their reason to play you is what I do not understand?... Simple approach could have been for them to refer you to one of their dealers and that is all... Like any homeowner that we talk to, you have specific requirements, a lot of expectations and you are ready to spend the time to buy best value that you can find.. Anyone that gives you type of an attitude similar that you described above, I guess you learned what to do when someone else does the same... You need a basic system with 4-5 camera package, decent recorder and system that works without calling NASA for assistance... I am sure that there are quite of few people here that can sell you a good package and backup their work... I concur with Scorpion - find someone local if you can, so that such dealer can help every step of the way... However, what if you can not find them or find the right one? Some of the CCTV Buffs in this forum are going to start complaining on what I will suggest you do next:D - you want something simple to install, easy to program and less intervention on updates or upgrades (like a homeowner myself)... therefore, you need embedded DVR with decent hard drive capacity (lets say at least 250GB), some decent bullet cameras with IR built in and having varifocal lens allowing you to adjust the viewing angle of your pictures the way you like them and that is it... Heck, you can even get pre-made cables, so that you do not have to worry about making connectors or otherwise... I will suggest you use at least one of your TVs at home for your viewing pleasure, so that you can restrict your costs even further. Here is where some of my good friends in this forum may get upset - watch the warranty for the entire equipment that a company offers it... Last thing that you need is to have problems after such warranty expires and then costs you even more... My "suggestion" (and here is where you will see a lot of comments from some of our members) is to look for the entire package with full (3) years warranty... so that you made your investment, spent you hard earned cash and for at least for period of 3 years, you have nothing to worry about... I can tell you that any equipment that functions normal for such period stands a very good chance to last even longer... Good luck to you and tell us if we can assist you more. -
16 Channel DVR Recommendation for Business
CCTV_Suppliers replied to gyung's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Some of your points are well taken and some I will debate... Longer warranty provide more confidence for the end users and makes them even more loyal for such brands... You are right when you say that for the item that comes with more warranty may be more expensive and "may be" is the key operative word... compared to products that come with lesser warranty that may qualify to purchase another unit just to replace the defective. However, if someone is reaching their neck out for a longer period of warranty and can deliver the goods for a reasonable price and then give you extended warranty of 3 years, then I will vote for such product, regardless what happens during such warranty. It is a risk to offer such warranty periods... Everyone knows, electronics fail and it is not IF, rather than WHEN... However, if a company is using better components and is willing to take that risk, then I rather take the chance with them rather than with someone for a year warranty... Case and point - Mitsubishi DVRs come with (5) years warranty.. They are priced well and provide exceptional performance.. Coupled with advanced replacement program during this warranty period, they captured more business than most, just because they were willing to go that extra mile.. and guess what, their failure rate for their DVR is lower than anything else out there that we have seen... I will not say that they "built" additional cost to cover such warranty period, rather they were very smart using top components that come with the same warranty periods... This is if their product fails, it really does not cost them much, as all internal components warranty are covered.. Sometimes I wander when someone sells a DVR with (1) years warranty that comes with Seagate drives that come with 5 years warranty, why not meet somewhere in the middle for such warranty for the end users? After all what really goes bad with DVRs anyway? Anything with moving components and if so, the only items that can ever fail are hard drives, the fans and possibly CD or DVD burners... and considering the fact that most motherboard for such systems rarely fail, then chances are excellent that such system will survive at least (3) years or more... Lets say the hard drive does fail... and it requires your attention... Well your cost for such repair is only labor, as your hard drives are already covered under warranty.. The same applies with most CD or DVD burners... not the fans, but as long as you use decent cooling fans with ball bearings, then that fan will last at least (3) years... I am not sure where are you located and chances are very good that each geographical location could impose a different warranty periods and I can give you that... As for the CCTV product line, well I focus on majors only and I wish one of these days I can find time to learn about the others, include Geo..... If you think that the manufacturers factor in the warranty costs just to cover costs, that is not entirely true either... If that is true, why is nowadays you can get major brand name equipment that is either the same cost or sometimes even lower than other lower end brands (example, you can get Sanyo 6 channel DVR with 80GB drive under $500.00)? I can tell you that you are right about the higher end equipment that they make, but not necessarily true about their lower end products... -
16 Channel DVR Recommendation for Business
CCTV_Suppliers replied to gyung's topic in Digital Video Recorders
This is a very good approach in handling equipment problems... very few that I know actually provide this type of service... this is worth a lot and with (2) years warranty, well it is a solid value... If lets say you want to take the warranty to 3 years, how much more will it really cost? Since you are providing online support, training, etc... which itself is a major value that I am sure your customers appreciate, did you ever look at possible (3) years warranty? I know that cost will be higher, but not much more... Excellent approach in handling equipment related problems... We provide similar service for our high end product lines, but could not cost justify the same for recorders sold that are less than $1,000... May be we should all revisit this formula and maintain our customers loyalty... -
American Dynamics Intellex DVRs
CCTV_Suppliers replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hey bud, thank you for getting us up to par with what is going on... In the recent months we are involved with some casinos in Vegas and the ones that I saw were all Intellex Ultras and according to the users, it sets a standard because the gaming requires a view of any picture 30 frames forward and 30 frames backwards without skipping any frame... and doing so, apparently it is being endorsed by them... Again, I am not in casinos and the only reason we are even involved is because of the IntelleView software, which is a server version that operates with all the registers throughout the casinos and then records all the video in Ultras and the data in the Intelleview... Just curious which system you picked and why? You do not have to mention the model number, but if at least can tell us the make... This way when I am spending some time with manufacturers, I can tell them that they are full of .... you know what... -
Hey bud, thanks for your honest comments and I very much appreciate it.. AD tech support is not what you call "good".. We never used them before nor will start anytime soon... In some rare cases we will contact their "Applications" engineers, who actually are very good... and most of them have engineering background. Sorry to hear what they did not do, which is the right thing for the customer.. and you are not a single case... I know about Sennetech... they produce decent "translators", but only if they have the actual equipment... I know that we loaned them some equipment in the past and the results were great - we were controlling Bosch domes with American Dynamics Switch and recently, we were using Bosch switcher to control Sanyo Domes (yup, sanyo does make PTZ domes)... Only if you work with Sennetech is when you will get the results.. off the shelf items sometimes do not work, as they do not keep up with technology changes... You also are correct on the complexity of the Intellex systems and it requires someone knowledgeable not only to program the Intellex correctly, but to work with customer's LAN or WAN... all they had to do is to bring you and your staff to San Diego facility and give you at least (1) week of hands on training and latest another week for its incorporation into your environment... and they did not do that... I myself was exposed with the Intellex right from the beginning... and we have full blown facility to work with any version of Intellex, repairs, upgrades up to 4.0TB internal storage (as you know their most current offering is capped at 750GB)... I guess because of a relationship with them over time, we actually acquired the IntelleView software under license... After going through over 9 months of re-development and fixing all the known issues, now it is available for prime time... It is a very decent and simple product.. We are planning to launch these systems fairly soon and will have from 4 channel (for mom and pop operation) to Enterprise versions... Let us know if you need any information and we will be glad to share them... and again, thank you for your comments..
