Digital Video Security Development Kit
CCTV_Suppliers replied to scorpion's topic in General Digital Discussion
I believe so, but I can have it checked tomorrow... We wanted to work on their DVRs with features that we required for our apps... no matter what we did or offered, they did not want any changes... However, anything and everything GE DVRs (or Kalatel is how many remember), we maintain and upgrade no problems... except they will not give us access to their firmware... oh well, you win some and loose some.. -

Unless if they changed their platform in the recent years, then no... I know this for the fact that all their initially pushed DVRs were based on this platform.... This post is #23 -
Digital Video Security Development Kit
CCTV_Suppliers replied to scorpion's topic in General Digital Discussion
Initially it was DM who started using... then it Kalatel visited the formula, but later they changed it... I know that Sanyo initially was shipping their DVRs with this platform, but later backed off... I wander if DM is still using it?... -
Well, then I should start moving now... and get my next 5 posts...

Interesting isn't it how CPU progressed in the last at least 25+ years?... I remember working with 8088 processors and DOS operating systems. Also when IBM released the patent and the Compaq started using the same technology... thereafter, everyone jumped into the business.. Heck, I am waiting to get my hands on the CELL processor with 8 cores and (1) what is called Power processor element and start testing what IBM calls it PROCESSORS PARALLELISM... Intel and AMD are screaming about their quads, but imagine if you can have 8 cores and have applications taking full advantage of each core... I guess Sony is one of the major players using this processor, but they are not taking full advantage as of yet... IBM is already talking about 64 cores based processor that we may see in the next 5+ years... They will go through the next phases of 16 cores and then 32 cores in the next few years... The question always is - which apps are ready now or may be ready later?? Imagine DVRs coming with this type of technology and if the software is written properly, amount of information it can crunch and performance out of this world... I know Bosch and American Dynamics have been kicking around with Quad processor idea, but the cost of the DVRs having this technology is way out in the left field... I am sure they will have some buyers, but for them to consider is a big deal... We will wait and see...

16 Channel DVR Recommendation for Business
CCTV_Suppliers replied to gyung's topic in Digital Video Recorders
DDSC2060, I look forward to it my friend... Anytime and any place, as long as you can come back with facts and not a fiction... -
Do you see the same problem locally vs. remote connect?
-
Actually there are quite of few to choose from... Since this is for home use, my suggestion is to go with embedded system. Here are some option: 1. DR8N-250 - CBC 8 channel embedded with 250G drive (upgradeable to higher storage capacity for later) - Pricing should be under $1,000... and with (3) years warranty. 2. ADEDVR009008 - American Dynamics EDVR series, (9) channel with 80G drive (upgradeable to higher storage capacity for later) - Pricing should be around $1,100... and with (3) years warranty. 3. DSR-3709H160 - Sanyo Cheetah series, (9) channel with 160G drive (upgradeable to higher storage capacity for later) - Pricing should be under $1,700... and with (3) years warranty. 4. DX-TL4509U-250 - Mitsubishi, (9) channel with 250G drive (upgradeable to higher storage capacity for later) - Pricing should be under $2,000... and with (5) FIVE years warranty. (Mitsubishi is the only DVR manufacturer that overs (5) FIVE years warranty). There are other models that will fall in between or higher in pricing... Anyone of these models are excellent performers, ability to add more drives later, internet ready and with warranty that fits... If you need other options, let us know... I am sure other member of this forum will have their say or their favorites... At least this way you will have options... Good luck!

T., you can always spend more and there no limits for what you can get... However, in my opinion, this model at least gives you the balance and good performance at a very reasonable price.. Heck, you can go to Panasonic high end StarLight technology (this will set you back at least a $1K) or their mid-range CP484 level (this will set you back around $400 plus lens, plus...)... or Bosch Dinion cameras...But at the end, when you trying to obtain a balanced performance (by balance performance I mean the cameras, the DVRs, monitors, etc), this model delivers the goods, providing that you are not considering or already have a very low end DVR... One thing you should not do is it to mix high end cameras with low end DVRs or vice versa.. Results will not be in line to anyone's expectations. If you want to go mid-range on everything, select all mid-range components... You can always mix and match components from various manufacturers, no problems there, and you should do that any way... No single manufacturer has a complete solution, even though they will claim otherwise... Instead, do your research and pick components that are applicable to your use and always ask questions... By the way, which DVR do you have in mind or may already have in place?

My vote goes with CBC BCH-IR39A bullet camera... it comes with 12 built in LEDs, 3mm-9mm AI lens, excellent color during the day and B&W during the night and fairly good picture in pitch dark... it takes both 12VDC and 24VAC power sources... Comes also with standard (3) years warranty... Pricing should be around $200.00 and it does deliver the goods for the price..

Rory he was referring to Geo cards... If he is looking into embedded systems, there are quite of few out there that can serve his purpose... CoolDude, how many position DVR do you have in mind??
-
scorpion, excellent suggestions man and these steps should be used by any homeowner out there, including myself... I am not familiar with CPCam or Eclipse product line and I am sure they are good, but I am more into major brand product line which nowadays are not that much more expensive... tech_dog, what type of cameras are you looking for? Bullet types, minidomes or fixed cameras with lens and that you can install inside of outdoor housing? Does camera having IR capability important? Color or B&W? Depending on the answers, I can make some suggestions from world of CBC, American Dynamics, Bosch, GE Security or even Panasonic... Lately they all have a greater push into homeowners and small shop owners markets with newer solutions, cameras, DVRs, etc... that are much more cost effective than their conventional equipment... You will be pleasantly surprised how well they have been positioning their products and their pricing to compete, which is always good for all of us, the dealers and the end users alike...

Rory, if it is a Geo cards, what do you recommend? My vote goes with Louroe product line... Used them for many years and their solutions are great performers...

16 Channel DVR Recommendation for Business
CCTV_Suppliers replied to gyung's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Chad, you points are misleading.. first you say one thing and then change the story... Majority of end users, including myself, have been effected by such companies that have no mercy what so ever... and they will sell whatever they have without any remorse... At the end, end users hold the bag and that is why I state that when someone offers full (3) years warranty and is a major CCTV manufacturer, you have nothing to fear and can proceed without any problems... Where do you find or see any of the stereo type of response in my comments, my friend?... My observation is based on simple facts about the embedded systems - they are very simple to setup, cost effective and yet functional, thus you may not be getting all the bell and whistles that GEO based or other Windows based systems may provide, you do get however solid performers... and with warranty that is unquestionable... I am not by no means or shape trying to underestimate your position, rather having you to see areas that you may have not been exposed.. I can give you at least a dozen makes and models of such systems from major manufacturers that will conform not only what gyung requested (price, functionality, etc.) but also can put you directly in touch with such manufacturers who I am sure will confirm my statements... So, do you want this information or not? Can you produce any information from your end that can challenge my observations above? Can you meet or beat any of the criteria that I have described which I can back it up 100%? Can you produce any makes and models that will give you basic embedded system that gyung has asked and with 3 years warranty?? I challenge you to do it and then we will see who is in the right track and who is not... -
Best?: Panasonic WJ-HD316A, DM "New"DS2, Sanyo DSR
CCTV_Suppliers replied to markmarg215's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I could not agree more on the Pano's none easy programming features... Sanyo still make their Cheetah version (they call it their low end) and of course their Tiger... Both units work well and does not require a lot of knowledge to program or better yet, to operate... -
Which DVR do you have in mind? Have you decided which microphone will you use? For best quality of of sound, there are seveal choices... and do not use something cheap, as the sound quality will be very poor..

Anderskh, Intellex application running with version 3.2 version operates with Windows 2000.. Version 3.2 was the last cut for the Intellex that will work only on Win2000... The newest version is 4.1xxx In order to take your Intellex to this new version, you have to pay for "upgrade" from version 3.2 to version 4.0.. and this type of upgrade is "hardware dependent" and here are the reasons why... 1. Unless you bought the system already with version 3.2, chances are very good that at one point it was either version 3.0 and with few updates, you were able to take it to its maximum level... 2. When I state hardware dependency, what I mean by that is majority of the system prior of version 3.0 were based on Intel Pentium III and few actually did make it at lower speed Pentium 4... (American Dynamics has not kept up with all the hardware technological changes). If your processing speed, the motherboard, the power supply and the resources are older versions, the RAM, the video card and the type of hard drives they came with, chances are very good that by taking it to version 4.1 it may work, but it will not operate at its optimum level - as you may know XP operating system requires more resources than Win2000. The video playback will be very slow and when you are exporting video, you may be waiting over 10 minutes for such export to complete... and then you also will experience random shotdowns... If you bought these systems that came with version 3.2, then you are safe and it will work just fine... Question for you? Why do you really want to go with version 4.1 anyway? The newest version comes only with few features that most of the time people do not use (e-mail notification for a hard drive that may be going bad or is bad and hope that it is not the main drive that contains the operating system and the Intellex)... All the rest of the functions are identical - from GUI to every function.. If you have any other questions, please address them here and we can provide you with very indepth answers.. We do sell and repair Intellex systems for the last over 15 years, so we do have a lot of resources available to us for anything Intellex..

Hey Rory, how are you doing my friend?? I did say I will come back for short while and I did... Hope you are doing good.. 16 Channel DVR Recommendation for Business
CCTV_Suppliers replied to gyung's topic in Digital Video Recorders
wow, I must of hit a nerve by having my first post and that is great:D ... someone is actually trying tell someone else to learn a business before giving an advise when such person can not justify his or her position... With your credentials working for ADT/Tyco/Sensormatic already does tell me a lot and I will not go to further on this as it shows level of knowledge... Please find above an answer to each and every comment that you made and please do not accuse anyone because of your limitation of knowledge in CCTV business and specially the DVRs... Good luck to you my friend and hope that eventually you will learn how to conduct business or address comments... It is called EXPERIENCE.... -
16 Channel DVR Recommendation for Business
CCTV_Suppliers replied to gyung's topic in Digital Video Recorders
gyung, you have many options available in the world of CCTV DVRs... The easiest and the simplest systems are embedded system that do not contain basic and inherent Windows problems effecting not only the functionality of such system, but how long will it really last... Most embedded system operate from internally based flash memory and do not depend its content on hard drives... the purpose of the hard drives are nothing more than a storage device and that is all... If any of such hard drives go bad, your basic approach will be to just replace them, but your main system, including application that is running on the flash memory, will retain its integrity... Such system are cost effective and MUST COME WITH AT LEAST (3) THREE YEARS WARRANTY... anything less than such warranty period should be rendered as either poor quality (that someone just wants you to waste your money) or the company may not be there tomorrow... Every major CCTV manufacturer has an embedded system and the pricing always is more cost effective than higher end Windows, Linux, and system based on other operating systems (I guess not paying Bill Gates and peope like him will keep your equipment cost lower)... The only drawback for such systems is its upgradablity.. very rare that you need to update or upgrade either the OS that it is based on or the application... which is a good thing for most, as they work right out of the box and do not require constant maintenance on software, drivers, etc.. Common systems that I will recommend are from CBC (3 years warranty), Mitsubishi (5 years warranty), American Dynamics (3) years warranty EDVR series, Sanyo (3) years warranty and few others... These companies have been around too long and they are major performers for our industry and the quality always top class and that is why anyone can invest in their hardware without any worry... warranty varies between 3 years to 5 years (in case of Mitsubishi)... If you have specific requirements, then we can recommend a very specific model from a specific manufacturer, otherwise, anyone of them will perform... I will suggest to shop and purchase anyone of such DVRs from a reputable reseller, so that at least you will have the support first hand... Just in case, you will also have such support from the Manufacturer directly - just keep your receipts and who or where you bought it... and most will honor such warranty... Price range that you are estimating is very reasonable and it does cover the actual pricing of over 90% of the Embedded models that are available from above manufacturers... At least my two cents on the topic...
