    Nuvico Ev-8000

Having a problem where the screen appears cut off each side of the screen. Using a Sony Wega TV to display via composite connection. I have made adjustments to the TV via it's geometry settings (which are many!). It seems the DVR is displaying outside the 'safe' zone of overscan. Some camera's appear larger then others (thought they should be the same). For example the middle camera's appear larger then the outside camera's. Anyone else using the new Nuvico EV series DVR's seeing this problem?

Must be a problem outputting to some CRT displays then. I didn't have the cropping problem with my old DVR outputting to CRT using composite video connection As far as the VGA I only tried one CRT VGA monitor as a test which doesn't show any cropping just the cams were slightly a different size on the left versus the right on a 4 cam display. Thanks

For those using this DVR... Nuvico has a time sync server program that can be installed on a local PC which the EV-8000 and DV3 units can be set to synchronize.

Replacement DVR had same issues. Nuvico technical said the issue has to do with the DVR CRT output resolution. They are looking into the issue further. So far Nuvico support has been good. Nuvico does release firmware updates periodically.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I had tried the remote download and save and worked ok. Problem with upgrading the drive yourself Nuvico said the Warranty would be void. Still waiting on my replacement DVR. UPS came and went today and no replacement which was ordered on Monday and should have been here at the latest today

    8 channel dvr - $1000 or less ?

Some differences I know between the DV3 8 cam unit and the EV-8000 are: DV3 has all 8 cams audio in and the EV has first 4 cams audio in. DV3 is a quadplex and the EV is a tri-plex meaning you can also backup using the built in DVD either manually or auto schedule on the DV3 but on the EV the recording must stop before manual backup to DVD and has no auto backup function to DVD. DV3 can expand up to 1.3 terabytes the EV maxes out at 700gig DV3 also has svideo output the EV has composite and VGA only. The recording and playback is the same on both. I am happy with the recording and playback quality. The problem I am having is on my CRT display and even on a VGA monitor as I said. I tried two different CRT displays. What are you using for a display? Any problems with your current DVR as far as the image not showing in entirety or different size cams?

    8 channel dvr - $1000 or less ?

On both the DV3 8 cam unit and the EV-8000 recording with playback max out at 720x480 at 4 images per second (when using more then 4 cameras). The quality is decent (I have the quality setting on Ultra which looks to me the quality settings simply affect amount of space being used and of course the quality of the image). If you go down to 720x240 you can get 7 images per second. Both are decent but the 720x480 is better. At 4 images per second playback is decent. Of course it's not like watching a movie. I really don't notice much of a difference between 4 images and 7 images so 720x480 with 4 images per second a better option IMO. With 720x480 and Ultra image quality setting going to get about 30-45 days recording on a 500 gig drive with 5 cams. The Mpeg-4 compression does seem efficient.

Thanks I will do that. I like the DVR otherwise for the most part. The remote viewer software could use some improvement in particular with playback. I have also tried the DV3 remote viewer software which works with the EV-8000 series and it's better but again still the playback functionality could use some improvement. The playback functionality using the infrared remote works well.

chr1z, I got a Nuvico EV-8000 series one of Nuvico's new models and it's not at all clear yet if there might be an inherent issue with the composite out. The edges are cut off and it's not my monitor! My old DVR did not have this problem. Even with a quality VGA monitor on a 4 cam display the two cams to the left are horizontally a bit larger then the cams to the right. I am waiting on a replacement DVR hopefully will arrive today. I will post the results.

I am waiting to receive the replacement DVR. Just to clarify I am using the DVR composite output with a Sony Wega TV for day to day use. Have you or anyone else had any problems with the CCTV display borders being cut off when using this configuration? I have checked all the TV settings and I don't have any problem with menus from other devices or my old DVR displaying correctly on the TV.

On a different subject, have you used VGA to composite converters with this DVR? Is there any benefit? P.S. I did not use any converters in the testing showing the problems just wondering if any benefit. Edit: I suppose it would not be wise to use a VGA to composite converter since the DVR has specific settings for composite and VGA. Thanks again for your help.

    Nuvico Ev-8000

I will contact Nuvico tomorrow and request an advanced replacement within the first 30 days. I spoke with Nuvico the other day and as you pointed out they asked me to try with some other displays. I like the DVR otherwise I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for your help. One other question, have you had any problem seeing the outside boarder lines on TV or CRT displays?

    Nuvico Ev-8000

Hooked another color CRT to the DVR and same problem. Hooked up a VGA monitor and changed the display settings on the DVR to VGA. With the VGA monitor I can see the outside border lines now but for example on a 4 cam display the two left cams are noticeably smaller then the two cams on the right. Not by a drastic amount but noticeably smaller horizontally. This must be a problem with the DVR? Have you ever experienced this happening?
