Would not get the same stress on the hdd as you would with the dvr, we have a seperate machine for hdd stress testing.

It sounds like active X controls on your laptop, what Operating system is on your laptop?

What distance are your power runs for the camera, you may be trying to run with a voltage drop on a 12 vdc camera.

Linux with firefox will not connect unless you use wine with explorer, it sounds like you need to enable active X controls on your home computer to connect and view images.

I see no mention of the operating system from home, if you have vista or xp at home you need to allow active x contorls for the dvr, especially with vista.
