I'm in the process of putting together a residental system (mine) pc dvr (Geo-8 channels card) with 5 camera outdoor and 3 indoor. I'm having problem of selecting what camera to buy. I have been reading about the CNB but according to some people here (Rory and others), they not too much in favored with them. To quote " Im distancing myself from the CNB cameras now after my last job using them (other than maybe the dfl-20s), they just dont seem to have the quality. In fact they look gawd awful on some DVRs, while other cameras, even cheap no name ones, do a better job. They do have the low light capability that many others dont, but the daytime color images tend to be mostly bad." So if you guys can recommend some brand, model of camera (dome) in the same money ranges I would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you all for replying to my question for recommendation...I do appreciated very much. I do try to get the best i can for the money by watching company advertisements, see on internet demo if possible and most of all by asking forum members that used this before to give me some input. I do respect Rory comment, because long times ago he has help me alot with another system ( I know he complained a lot about import taxes, and duties etc... but he spoke like he felt about the product). Thank you all again.

Thanks Birdman Adam...that was not too much to ask is it. I have been reading about the CNB, but of lately, people distance themselves from it, therefore I have second thought about using them. I guess am looking for confirmation that it's good enough for the price as compared to other brands. Thank you.

Thanks I get that a lot ---- usually in those cases, we prefer the customer take others recommendations - I'm sorry for wasting your time. If that is what you get a lot...then why you keep doing it...how does that help me? There are thousand of brands, quality, prices, how do people like me (not in the profession) able to determine what's good for my situation without starting to ask questions first. I have been reading info from this forum to see if I can pick up anything which would help me deciding which brand or make model to use for my situation ( which is part of the research). If according to your input, everybody here needs not ask any question but to ask all company to do demo for them? Be for real, who the hell can do all that? What you told me is ideal situation, which is 100% correct, but common man...it's unrealistic.

Thank you for your input. I'm a novice, do it yourself, try to do it right by take experienced people (those that seen it, did it before me) recommendation, sugestion, and make my own determination if that products will works for me. I valued these recommendation, helpful hints, from these people here, your recommendation as of right now did not help me a bit. Thanks.

Hi all...I bought Window XP pro (OEM) from Newegg.com...didn't realized that it does not contain product key... (totally newbie with building pc or pc dvr, but i'm trying). While installing the OS its asking for the key, didn't see it any where, so I used the one from my other pc, it loaded fine. this morning, email newegg for help with key, they said i'm sol...and to contact the manufacture. So beside contacting the manufacture, is there anything else i can do? Thanks for pointing me to the right direction.

Sir Flannel...Yes it is odd indeed. I've been reading in here for long time, I thought i had read from Rory that he using Oem xp and no problem what so ever...and also many member here also stated that they do have the key when purchansing it....not in my case however...went back looking for shrink wrap...no cigar...no keys... strange indeed (as you can also read from newegg's customer services email to me with the explanation.).

First built Pc for DVR....got one problem with hard drive
mitbug2 posted a topic in Computers/Networking
Hello all...Hopefully someone here with more knowledge than I, in computer system work, to point me in the right direction....Thank you. Asus mob 2 sata hard drives (80 and 320 gigs) Sony DVD/CDrw Floppy drive Window XP pro. I built this computer for the first time using the components that members here suggested hoping for a better, more stable pc DVR. Everything went fine, load window xp...no prolbem...but only one hard drive the 80 gigs (drive C) is recognized (see in my computer ) not the 320 gigs. Both of these hard drive hooked up via sata port and cable (?) and the set up screen do see both. so the question is how or what to do be able to use the second hard drive (drive D or E) I did recalled that when I was installing Window, at one screen it ask me to install or partition the hard drive, the 80 gigs was hi-lited, so I hit enter to install the window xp...its went on to format that hard drive (80gigs one) and went on installing the software into that drive but never went back to the 320 gigs one. Hopefully I, somewhat get you all to understand what i'm asking for. Thank you much for anyone can point me to the right direction. pc recognized eveything else except the 320gigs one. -

Hi Rene... I know i'm in the wrong section, but since you using the geo card, could you tell me how dificult it will be to install and configure the card (software wise)? Is there good directions to follow or you just swing it like i did with the pc (I do alot of reading prior dipping my hand). Thanks -
Okay... I wrote to newegg and explain again that i need the product key to continue with the loading process of the software and they wrote back with the same explaination that they do not provide microsoft product keys (?). I needed to contact the manufacture (microsoft) to get the key. So I call Microsoft and explain the situation and give them the information in which newegg had given me (Newegg, the lady name, her id, their phone #). I believe I spoke to someone from India (call center), they was very nice to me, explained that i should not buy OEM and to buy retail version from now on (I did not know anything about OEM was until now). Any how they give me a new key and all is well. So I'm writing this to let people like me (newbies), be aware of this (ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINTS).

mitbug2 replied to mitbug2's topic in Computers/Networking
Hello CCTVCams...thank you for your help. I follow Rene direction and format and configured the drive E (320gigs). It's is now show up in my computer, as drive C for the 80 gigs and drive E for 320. So my question now is this, do i have to set jumpers too? they are sata drives with their own cable and everything? -
hello ....tthe cd as in a white envelope, sticked to the microsoft book and and nothing was on it, not on the white envelope, shrink wrap, disc, outsite yellow evelope....nothing. Im not sure how to post the email from newegg, but i will try. Essentially they say, if im not good with computer, buy retail version.Subject: product key for window xp pro Dear Customer, Thank you for contacting Newegg. We apologize for the unfavorable situation. In reviewing your account, we show that the item# 37-102-062 you purchased was an OEM product. You may visit on http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16837102062 for more information. Since the software is 100% non-fundable once purchased and delivered, in the situation please contact the manufacturer for further assistance. Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/ 425-454-2030 For future reference, the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) acronym is used to denote equipment that is sold to resellers like Newegg for integration into systems. Also known as white or brown box products, these components are sold in bulk for a discounted price without any special packaging or accessories (except for possibly the necessary drivers), which allows Newegg to pass the savings along to our customers. OEM items are used primarily by system builders, when experienced PC enthusiasts assemble a new computer, they often eliminate the need for extra cables and manuals. We recommend that if you have not personally upgraded your PC in the past or if you are a novice at PC repairs, you may want to consider purchasing retail products so that you receive all of the available accessories and any additional manufacturer support that is provided in case troubleshooting is required. All the information you see on our site comes straight from the manufacturer. The info on our item description we can guarantee. Unfortunately, the information that is not specified will have to be obtained from the manufacturer. Thanks, Kitty zhou

hi Rory i'm looking at the latest geo card that can provide me with at least 6 to8 camera at 30fps (not sure i needed this much, but is it better to have more than less?). Any suggestion for best options in pc hardware and geo cards are greatly appreciated. If I have to give the dollars wise, could I do something with 3k or less. Thank you
-
Thanks Scottj and CollinR for your help...I'm trying to set up a pc base system with geo card, but having little trouble with the pc hardware department. I wanted a better, faster and more stable components for the pc, but of all the "ready made system" that some company selling here in the forum are not very good or barely meet spec. Beside order parts from neweggs or tigerdirect and spent time put them together, are there any places that i can order a pc (such as Dell) that i can install the geo card and will not have the compatability issues? If any can point me to the right direction, I'm greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

mitbug2 replied to mitbug2's topic in System Design
Hello SM...thanks for reply...i'm be using this for my business... small retail setting...(1200 sf). I will need at least 4 cam right now but would like at least 6 (front door, back door, left and right front store area...would also like to have one outside front door and out side back door). Lighting indoor is constantly on (fluorescent), front area will have big flood light at night, back door no light (total darkness). I'm firm beliver of better than average equipment, not the best but will get those that more stable. I'm not sold on any system yet, but thought pc system would be cheaper than stand alone...Thanks -

NUvico Nvdr4000, Vitek DVR4080 or GE DVMre SDVR-4-80
mitbug2 posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hi all ... from reading in this forum...I narrowed down to these 3 DVR...Nuvico and Vitek are seem the same (150.00 diff), GE Storesafe about 400.00 more than Vitek or Nuvico...The GE are best among these 3 but higher cost...so for a home user, or a small business which of these 3 make most sense? Please voices your opinions so I can make better choice. ps...Im trying to do it myself (I will need 2 units of dvr one for home and one for my business). Thanks again for all your help.
