    PEN in Mouth

wtf is the purpose of this post and why are you so foul?
  2. No - the ACTi do not support click-in-image, yet. I would propose that to their guys (support email) and they will probably add it in their next iteration. Impressive D-1 resolution video servers and phenomenal price points (comparably).

    island is on fire

Did you say "bush fire" = so she's a redhead 'eh?
  4. Sorry that I misunderstood your post. No - I don't know of a Manufacturer that is doing that at the video server level. Many software companies are adding this functionality into their software though. If you are just streaming this to a web page you could embed some code to click-in-image/PTZ, as well - if you know and understand programming and the particular PTZ protocols of the video server you are utilizing. I can't think of a another video server (off the top of my head) that does what you are specifying off-the-shelf. My understanding of the Axis PTZ protocols in their video servers is that you can upload particular PTZ protocols that you want to use and then the click-in-image might be supported - I did not know that this was default?!?! http://www.axis.com/techsup/cam_servers/ptz/drivers.php
  5. Yep - Sony SNC-RZ30 has this ability and you could write the ability yourself to any PTZ, as well.

    bullet cam

I would go with any bullet from Speco. And for that price - go with Speco - not some import. They have good products, good tech support and a great company and group of people. If you have an issue they will send you parts to fix your problem on their dime, as well. Just my $.02

    Access Control Forum?

Topics: Smart Card Systems, Biometrics and Access Control, IP-based Systems, Iris Scan/Readers, Swipe Cards (Contactless/RF) and Contact Cards, , Access Control Software, Integrated Access Control Systems, Time and Attendence and Access Control, RFID and Access Control and on and on and on.

    Access Control Forum?

Yeah - I would start it.
  10. I would recommend utilizing a Toshiba wedge (IK-WB01A or 11A) for your application, as it is self-contained in a weather-resistant outdoor housing. The only downside is that it is a Java JPEG camera. For recording - pick up a cheap IP software solution (there are many for under $200.00) and this will be your simple solution. Or utilize a Vivotek, Hawking Technologies or D-Link (all the same Vivotek codec) MPEG-4 IP camera - but, now you have to worry about a housing for outdoors. Lots of solutions out the to accomplish what you have outlined...on a consumer budget...

    CCTV in the news.

I got a kick out of that one, as well. Basic set-up and it gets big time coverage. I love it!
  12. By the way - doesn't look like the auto-refresh is set on that demo link so just hit refresh to pull back newer images. Simple fix though and you get the point...
  13. NVR: http://www.d3data.net:86/ppc (username: demo and password: demo) Change the ppc to Palm if viewing on a Palm (example above is Pocket PC). This is just a dummied-down basic interface and you can set the image refresh rate to whatever interval you would like and whatever your cell service can/will support.

How To Demo? or Why Do Demos Suck

...ACTi very closely. Good guys and company and very impressive D1 resolution video server. Very impressive and we'll see their impact on the marketplace.

    DVR GUI Input

Okay - I need detailed input on the best DVR GUI out there. Throw everything at me from; ease-of use (end user and installer), to browser-based, to a wish list of what's missing in what is out currently out there. I want specific examples - if anyone can provide exposed links to some and I want opinions on what the best DVR GUI is and why. What type of PTZ controls are best in the GUI and why? What features are best and why? Wishlist of features? Obviously there is only so much real estate in a GUI, but please brainstorm with me here. Sounds like a silly question - I know - but, please amuse me. Thank you guys - I know you'll help!

  17. that the TSA would flip over - it's in an airport - ridiculous!
  18. ...articles that are great resources. This first one is from Charlie Pierce's website and, as you all should know, he is one of the MOST RESPECTED in the Security Industry for CCTV. He is extremely knowledgeable and his website is a plethora of information. His response to a question along these same lines brings up the most valid point - which format will be around in the years to come. Not a lot of companies are dedicating time to wavelet or using it. Most are using MJPEG or MPEG-4 - most even skipped over MPEG-2. Anyway here is his answer: http://www.ltctrainingcntr.com/Technical%20Library/Squeezing%20Video%20is%20Compressioin.htm This second and third links are is just a definition of wavelet: http://www.barrt.ru/parshukov/about.htm http://electron.mit.edu/~gsteele/wavelets/ I don't see a lot of people using wavelet and don't see it hanging around - long term.
  19. ...the differences between MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 are huge.
  20. Guys...there are tons of other applications out there: D3Data's (Network Video Management (NETVM) product) Milestone's XProtect product line IPConfigure Livewave Broadware INETCam, and on and on and on... research some other alternatives.

Loaded the interface after I installed the controls and an updated cab from Microsoft, but no video. IE 6 XP Pro, SP2
  23. ...glad I stumbled across this site a week (or so) ago (by word of mouth - by the way). I hope everyone has a Happy Holiday season!
  24. No - I was speaking of a standalone illuminator. They don't have one specifically for it. The Axis 213 PTZ has one that is integrated. They are pretty pricey - especially if you utilize the Sony factory housing and pendant mount, etc. We did an install with (3) of these (19 cameras total = mix of analog and digital/IP) and then found DotWorkz site where they have essentially the same housing for almost 1/2 the price. Oh well!
