How do I get my ip cam on the net so it can be viewed?
outrun posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
First I have looked everywhere but don't even really know what to look for. I also didn't know where to post this but since it is an ip cam I put it here. My wife is opening a home daycare. I want the parents to be able to view there children. Now I am not new to setting up cams but I have never done one over the net. I have 3 foscams with software. I have only one up right now because I have not got around to the other ones. I can view it here and on the web. The only problem is it requires active X and only internet explorer supports that. Even at that you have to go into internet options and make some changes. Most of the parents are women and I really doubt they are going to know how to do any of that. Also I am on Verizon Fios and do not have a static ip. So where do I go so that I can have the ip picked up when it changes and get a link or something that I can put on my site so it can be clicked on and viewed in the browser as an operator or visitor. Here is the current ip for now: http://173.57.140.114:9008/ Login: test Password:test -

Actually I did sign up for that. Was not sure what to do after that or if I was doing it right. -
Ok, I bought a dvr card capable of 4 cameras. Well after installing it my image shows up but it is just an image. Every time I click on something it will refresh but not continue to refresh like it should. I called the guy that I got it from as he is the dealer and he said that it does not work with NVIDIA cards. I was like well then I am bringing it back cause that is what I have and it is a good card. He said for me to bring in the computer and he would look at it. Well I was just going to take it back. But today when I was cleaning I found my old digivue card capable of 4 cameras. I put it in installed the software and fired it up. No image shows up. I go into properties to change lets say the zones for the alarm. What do you know there is a freaking image there. It is exactly what the camera sees but same problem not refreshing. I hit clear zones or something and it refreshed. So, the camera is working, the software is working but the image is not refreshing. Is this really a video card problem? Any other info you can give me would be great.

I have have Geforce 7800 GS. I will try resetting it when I get a chance and see what happens. -
I bought some cameras for a great price. No lenses. They are somewhat old but I am only going to use them at night as they are black and white cams. However I am wanting to get a cam to use during the day. I was looking at some color cam (can't post link yet) but it says digital on it. The person selling it says that it uses sony parts or quality something like that but is not made by sony. So, anyone ever heard of digital?

That is what I have been hearing. I was at a security shop the other day and they had all the highend stuff out front. I went in back to make a payment and saw several off brands and asked the guy about them. He said they were just as good as the others.

I have a dynapost dvr. It captures 4 cameras and is a pci card. Anyway when I bring up the program I see my one camera but it is only a still image. It does not move. I don't see the wind blowing etc. Anyway if I click some stuff on the screen real fast the image will change. Also when I go into where you can set the area that you want to record for motion I can clearly see the camera and everything is moving just fine. But when I get back to my regular screen it does not update. I called the guy who makes the card who is local and he said I need an ATI card that this card does not work well with NVIDIA. Well I play a lot of games on the side and I am not about to switch over to ATI just to see my cameras and fork out a lot of cash. I currently have a NVIDIA Geforce 7800 GS. So, anyone had this sort of problem and is there a way to fix it? Thanks, Jason

Are there cameras out there that are good and are off brand? On another thread I was somewhat discussing about offbrand cameras. I have found a site that has some good deals and they are local to me. They don't even put the name of the cameras online. So, today I went and looked at the cameras. They seemed great to me. I viewed a 420tvl and a 480tvl. I didn't even notice a difference except the price. One thing that was weird about these cameras though or maybe it's cause I am a newb. It did't have a 24/12 volt input. It had that 12 plug in type. So you could use your standard cable from frys or where ever that has the power and bnc cable on it. I think you know what I am talking about. Where you just plug the power supply into the wall then take the power cable and plug it into that and then run your wires. I would post links but I still can't until I get my 10 days in. (Hey admin can you bump me up to 10 days?) Thanks, Jason

Someone please explain this to me. I have 3 cameras up and was adding a 4th one tonight. Here is the run down. I bought 300' of BNC to BNC High Performance 75ohm cable made by Swann. That is what it says anyway. Says it is for use with CCTV cameras that are High def. Well since I only had 3 cameras hooked up at the time I ran this 300 feet of cable out only about 25 feet to a camera and left the rest on the spool. Well the camera looked really white and blurry. I could never get it clear so I just figured it was a bad camera. Well tonight it was time to put another camera up 300' feet out. So I disconnected the 300' foot wire that was hooked to the camera that was only 25 feet away and hooked up the camera that was 300' feet out. Then I took 25 foot of cable that I had and hooked the 25 foot camera up to it. Guess what. Now the camera that is 300' out looks like crap. It's very white and looks blurry. Well that is that cable that was on that 25' camera. So, the camera at 25' now looks great with a new cable and the one 300' looks bad. Did I get the wrong cable or what? These are just black and white cameras. They are not high def cams but I can't imagine that would make a difference.

All this trouble and it is the cable?

Yeah it says RG59 but man is it bad. Is Swann cable any good. 300' for 30 bucks. -
Yeah just like that without that terminal thing on the end. I mean I like it better that you can just plug it in. I hate that I have to have a power supply and run 12 or 24 volts. I just figured the nicer cameras used the whole power supply thing. I seriously thought about buying one of these off brand cameras. It looked really nice from what I could tell. It was made by Digital or at least that is all it said on it. I would take a pic of it if I could post the link. Some of the other cameras were nice to but they didn't even have names on them. It just said what they did.

Ok, well this only my second post. I have had a samsung security camera system for the last 5 years. Loved it until my dog chewed up a couple of cables. Didn't know it would be so expensive to just get cable for these cameras. Now they are nothing great as it was a package deal at a local club kinda like walmart . Well the other day I bought 11 cameras with a switcher for about 60 bucks. The cameras are all black and white and didn't have any lenses. I purchased some lenses, power box, cables, all that good stuff and put up 3 cams outside in the housing. Man was I disapointed. These cams suck during the day. Sorry, but that is the real word for it. Auto Iris doesn't seem to do anything. It's so bright during the day. At night however they are great. Most if not all these cameras are 0.1lux. So, I guess I will just use them at night. If I do just use them at night I would like some color cameras for the day. So, I would like to get some color cameras for my property. Here is the run down. I have 3 acres with a pond and my house and barn. I would like to get maybe 6 color cameras to monitor the whole property. I would have them run into my computer. I might use the cameras I have now for at night. Thanks, Jason

Ok do this. Go to craigslist choose dallas. Then search for this. 431057470

I can't post a link I have not been here 10 days so I can't paste the link

The one you posted looks like a newer model. Here is the exact craigslist link that I bought it from. You can kinda see it here in the pic. Also those camera boxes you see that is not what these cameras are. Those boxes are from the new cameras they got I guess and they put the old cameras in those boxes. dallas.craigslist.orgele431057470.

Well I got 11 cameras. They all seem to be made by delta vision. 3 of one model, 3 of another model, 4 of another model, and one different model and brand. They are all low lux. I called the company for some info on them and they couldn't even find them in the computer. I was like you gotta be kidding. Tech support said they had nothing either but he said if he remembers correctly one of the models was from 2001. All the lenses that I have bought are auto iris. Also the cameras have so many functions that I had to mess with some of them. I am only running 3 cameras right now. These cameras are all .01 lux and I think that is the problem. During the day it is so bright on the camera. I mean you can see but is nothing like what my dad has next door. My father has a cheap airlink 101 and the picture is so clear during the day. As I have thought about it these cameras came from a car dealership and I bet he used them all at night. Cause the pic is great at night. Also the switcher is made by Advanced Technology Video DPX 16m. I didn't find anything on it though. I am going to see if I can find a link to one of the cameras and see if yall have ever seen it. Also so what yall are saying is I got a good deal and B/W cameras are great?

Well the goal is not really secturity but rather just to keep an eye on my land, dogs, goats, geese, lawn equipment and stuff like that. If there was any security problems I have it would be coyotes.
-
Yeah I could do something like that. I only have 3 acres. Its about 380ft long and I guess about 200 feet wide. As for the pond I think putting a camera about 75 feet from the pond and then just getting a lens I will zoom in on it kinda like what you posted. What I really am looking for is some good cheap cameras. Ex: I have a nice 22" computer monitor that is made by an off brand company and it gets exact if not better reviews than the name brand monitors. Also this monitor was made by the people who actually make the parts that go in some of the name brand monitors. So, thats kinda what I am looking for in a camera. I do believe in a way you get what you pay for but after searching a lot of sites I can't believe the differences in cost on the same exact camera. If someone didn't pay attention they could spend a lot on cameras and lenses from buying the wrong thing from the wrong person. I don't want to get screwed. I have been buying some lenses from a local recently for 40 bucks a pop varifocal, autoiris, 3.8 to 8 something. While I think that is a good price I could be wrong. After some searching on the net I saw the same thing that I bought for only 25 bucks. Lens is made by a differnt company but hey it's cheaper than 40 bucks and I assume it serves the same purpose.

Sorry I can't give more info. With my low post ect I can't post the link. Looks like there knock offs. Just says Digital on it in blue letters except for the a which is in blue. I bet that really helped didn't it .
