Hello. most DVR's will require a search to be completed before either playing back or exporting the video. No data might be indicating an error where there was no search made when you are trying to backup. The search you made to play back the video may not extend itself for a backup.

Hello. If tech support was doing their job correctly, they should have explained it is either the power adapter or the hard drive or the NVR itself. If the NVR is under warranty, they should offer to send you a new adapter or an RMA to send the NVR in for a new hard drive or complete replacement.

You might need to consider getting a new power adapter for the cameras. If there is a warranty, ask the manufacturer to replace it.

According to the Smart Viewer Software manual (http://security.hanwhatechwin.com/_inc/download.asp?idx=44648&fde=5174255232960326ae8542bb01d0436f8dd65e42828470f5dd6bda81f0dfe6cc) it would appear that you would need to use the DVR's IP address to create a device that allows you to remotely view the cameras when you click on Live.

Hello. It would be a good start if the switch is assigning an IP address to the computer and to the DVR.

Hello. The camera thinks that there is insufficient light all the time so it is always in night vision mode. Try shining a flashlight into the camera's light sensor. Try an alternate power adapter for the camera or remove any other cameras from the adapter. In short, the camera may have a faulty light sensor.

Hello. A new router would mean that you now have a new WAN IP address. Your ISP or whoever installed that router should be able to share that info with you.

Hello. Perhaps there is not enough bandwidth in order to send the cameras out of your local network. 1-2 Mbps is needed for most 4 to 16 camera analog systems and up to 5 Mbps of upload speed is needed for HD systems.

Hello. You might want try a new 19 volt adapter with the correct amperage output. If that does not do it, then disconnect the internal hard drive and see if the DVR stops rebooting with no hard drive connected. It may be time for a new hard drive.

Try the Port Forward section before Virtual Server, if UPNP is not enabled or did not work. All three essentially do the same thing. The protocol for most systems and IP cams would be TCP.

Swann would be the appropriate source for the specific parameters of the hard drive replacement for your system. In general, I do believe most DVR's will only accept a single internal drive. So if you want to upgrade to 4TB hard drive, you may want to look for a single 4TB drive that meets the whole set of specifications for your particular Swann DVR.

Forwarding the DVR web port on the router for the DVR's LAN address should allow you to view the DVR's cameras on the web using its router's WAN address.

Yup. That Western Digital Purple drive seems to be the consensus replacement drive. Since you can no longer hear the cooling fan, you might still want to consider replacing the 4+ year old fan. There are some new bearing technologies that make fans quieter if not silent. A well working cooling fan will allow that new drive to keep that NVR going for at least another four years. And if I could put in my two cents in about drives, SSD's have no moving or spinning parts. Although quieter and faster, SSD's are still more expensive and probably do not last as long as conventional drives.

Hello. Opening the RTSP port may be handy if the DVR has an exterior speaker output through which one can remotely speak or actuate the playback of a recording.

Hello. You seem to have a grasp of the situation, it is either the hard drive or the fan and you will not be able to replace one or the other or both without opening up the DVR. If you have had the DVR for several years, you might want to start with the fan which would be the least expensive of the two items.

Hello. Try searching your phone's app store with the name of your IP cameras' manufacturer. If there is no P2P option, you might be able to use an available app with the cameras' LAN and/or WAN addresses and the proper port.

If the DVR allows the creation of a user account with restrictions, those rules should hold true if the connection is thru a mobile app, computer management software, or a web browser.

Most IP cameras will show their specific MAC address on a sticker on the bottom of the camera. The Netgear router has a default local IP address of 192.168.1.1. Using that as a URL on a web browser, like Safari, should take you to the router login page. The default Netgear user name is admin and the default password is password. On the Attached Devices page you should be able to find the cameras. On the UPNP page you should be able to find any ports automatically mapped for any connected devices. On the Port Forwarding page you should be able to complete any manual port forwarding for your cameras. https://portforward.com/netgear/ has a pretty comprehensive listing of Netgear routers and more specific port forwarding instructions. You may have to check with your ISP on how to check the port forwarding on the modem.

Hello. You might want to change the port on the new camera to avoid any forwarding conflict through the router with the old camera.
