  1. Hello, I'm currently looking to replace an old ADT/Tyco DVR that the hard drive died on. Currently, we have 8 working cameras and a monitor that hooks up via coax. The cameras are RJ11E so I'm going to get a converter kit to convert these over to BNC connectors. The problem I'm having is finding a cheap DVR that would have decent recording and playback to it. And when I say, cheap, I'm talking $500-$800 because my boss sees these complete systems at Sam's with 8 cameras, DVR and all for the same price and doesn't paying more would be worth it. I'm looking at the JSD-1600L and ALB-810U from Covisec. The 1600L is $594 and the ALB-810U is $898. The only reason I was going with the 1600L is because the 800L is no longer in stock and I've been informed that they aren't getting anymore. Also thought the possibility of expanding would be appealing. Anyways, has anyone used any of these cheap DVRs with success? Are they worth buying? Ideally, I want to get a DVR that'll record atleast 8-channels, has a web server for remote viewing and I also need playback and viewing to be as fluid as possible. Reason being is there wasn't any time-lapse with the previous system so I doubt it'd work to have the replacement be kinda jumpy. Preferably, I'd want the machine to have no hard drive so I could add my own like the JSD-1600L since I can get cheaper hard drives with more space. Sorry if this sounds pretty newbish but this is something kinda new to me. I knew a little about CCTV from my previous job but I'm usually setting up, configuring and administering servers, routers and workstations. I've been busy running around google and various vendor websites all week trying to learn as much as I can but I thought I'd ask some people with more experience their encounters with these specific models or their experiences with cheap DVRs. Any information that could be provided to help me learn and make an argument for a specific DVR would be appreciated.
