I have a GeoVision system that I am about to setup and run and I have a question. The system I am planning to use is running Windows 98. Can anyone tell me if Ver 8.3 with the GV800-8 card will run in Windows 98, or do I need to upgrade to XP? Thanks for your help and guidance...

Splitting RS-232 to control two different PTZ protocols
anchorjoe replied to anchorjoe's topic in Geovision
Andy, Thanks for the reply and insight. I will keep this info handy for the next job I do. The particular client I was working on that I was wondering on this subject for is refusing to pay me for work completed so I am not going to do anymore work on this project. He can hire someone else to deal with his crap. I have over $1500 of my own money into the project that I will most likely not get back, so it becomes a mute point to actually worry about for this project.. Maybe next time... I agree, if there is anyone out there that has done the com port split for two different PTZ protocols I would love to hear about the results.. Thanks.. -
Hey Everyone, Is there anyone out here that has experienced or tested output control to two different PTZ camera's with a RS-232 (Com1) splitter? I have a client that ended up getting two different type PTZ camera's from my supplier (without knowing till after install), and I need to know if I can use the same com1 port for both. I already know that I will need to purchase and install a second GV-Net card to control the other camera, but I am now curious if I can use the same port to control both GV-net cards or if I need to use the com port for one card and use a USB to Serial adapter for the other. Thanks for any quidance... For reference, one camera is setup on the Pelco-D protocol and the other camera will need to be setup on the Lilin Merit protocol. Thus the need for two GV-Net cards. Thx.

Oh, your answer is a godsend. That is what I was hoping the answer would be. I circled this answer with my supplier and they told me that it needed its own control interface. The problem I would have is I have three separate systems running and on one system there is a Nuvico setup with the Pelco-D protocol and working fine. So, after hearing back from my supplier and not liking the answer, I thought Iwould turn to this forum for more expert advice. I now have more confidence that these camera's will be OK with the Pelco-D protocol. I will run with this advice today when I install the units. Thanks again for the insight...

Hi everyone. I am hoping to get a quick answer on this question. Does anyone know if the Merit Lilin PIH-7000NL PTZ camera will work with the Pelco-D protocol settings. I recently got three of these as replacements for a clients project I am working on, and low and behold the manual doesn't indicate which protocol to use. I am really hoping this is the case since one system on my clients site currently has a Nuvico PTZ that is setup for the Pelco D protocol and I am hoping I can just add this second PTZ to the system and have the camera ID address control which one moves and such.. Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide...

Help Desperately needed with Bosch PTZ and GeoVision
anchorjoe replied to anchorjoe's topic in Geovision
I am running RG-59 with 18GA combo cable for power and video feed, and I am also running 18GA shielded (two conductor) for the RS-485 control. These are the same lines I am running for the Nuvico camera which is running good on the same system that a bosch is not... Do you know if the bosch model should call out specifically for the RS-485 control to work properly. These camera's have a wiring diagram that indicates (+/-) biphase control, and I am not familiar with that terminology and I assumed this was the same as RS-485 control... -
Is there anyone out here that has connected a Bosch 10X PTZ (model number: VEZ-021-HWCS) to a PC/DVR system running the latest version of GeoVision S/W? I have a client that has three of these on three different PC systems and none of them are working. On one system I do also have a Nuvico 35X PTZ along with the Bosch unit and the Nuvico is working just fine, so I believe the PC settings are correct. My thought is that there is a DIP switch setting inside the camera that I need to change, but the camera manual does not give any insight on this. My client is loosing patience, so I am hoping and praying that someone in this community has worked with this camera/GeoVision software and was successful in getting the camera to move through the software.. P.S. I have power and video to the camera's, just no movement. Can someone please guide me in the right direction on this.. Thx..

Thanks Andy. I think this will work out great then. My plan was to load the GeoVision Control Center on a fourth PC that has a static IP so the client could log into that system remotely to see the camera systems. I also wanted to be able to take one of the PC/DVR systems and log into the system with the control center loaded so that my client could also see all the camera's from his office monitor when he was in the office. Based on what I have read so far, I think this will work out great. Thanks for the help...

Thanks. Good to know. I think what I will have to do is load the Control Center on a fourth PC and then just log into it remotely from there. Do you know if it will create any issues if I log into this program from a PC that is running the GeoVision Main S/W. I am hoping I can do this and not create any issues with the PC/DVR recording program..

Hey everyone, Happy Monday.. I have a few questions I am hoping to get some guidance on. I have a project that I am working to close out and I am not quite sure if my idea will work or not. I have three PC's setup with the GV-800-8 PC/DVR cards and I was going to use the GV Control Center to bring them all together on one monitor. Can I install this software on a fourth PC to bring the PC/DVR systems together and then log into this system with windows remote desktop and still maintain control? And, could I theoretically log into this forth system with one of the PC/DVR systems and have the same control features without conflicts to the GeoVision software that would be running in the back-ground? Thank you so much for any guidance... Joe

Thanks for the info. Do you know if there is a special driver I need to load from GeoVision for the USB to work properly, or is it just the built in drivers from Windows? I seem to recall that there was a special driver I needed, but stressing over this function I may be smoking something....

I am using the USB port vs. the serial port, and I have been wondering about that. It is a great idea to take the camera and connect directly to the system vs. through the cable to test the settings. Unfortunately, I don't usually have a spare camera to test with. I think between the USB vs. serial port and the model selection in the Geo S/W, that might be where the problem is since I have tried to get control with different address selections. Thanks for the insight..

Hi everyone, I have a question regarding a couple of PTZ's I am installing for a client and need some guidance. I have three separate PC's setup running GV-800-8 cards in each PC. On all three systems, I have one Bosch Autodome Easy (model: VEZ-021-HWCS) on each, and one Nuvico SD-Z35 PTZ on one of the three systems (so, I have two PTZ's on one system, and one on each of the other two- 4PTZ's total). I have two of the three PC systems up (two with the Bosch PTZ's only) and running with images coming from the PTZ. I have gone into the GeoVision software and mapped the PTZ's by ID address, com port, etc. as well as selected the only Bosch PTZ on the GeoVision list. Question I have is has anyone used this kind of PTZ and what settings did you have to use to get it to work correctly with the GeoVision program? I am kindof thinking that I need to use a different camera model from the pull down list, but I don't know which one will work. Also, I have left the default settings on the SD-Z35 camera thinking it would default to ID#1 and then I set the Bosch's to ID's 2-4 accordingly. Does anyone have any experience with the SD-Z35 camera and the default settings, will it default to ID#1 on the system. I am also concerned if the GeoVision software will see the PTZ address as 1-the address location (ex. camera set to ID#1, so to work it I need to select address 0 in the on-screen control panel)... Thank you so much for any expertise on this matter.

Thanks Andy. I am assuming the paths you provided are from the GeoVision website? right? So, I should be able to install Control Center into all three PC's, direct the connections from the main display PC to connect to the other two and it should work right? My appologizes for all the questions, it is just that this client is so far away that I want to make sure I have the process down on this before I drive all the way out there on Sunday and work on setting it all up... It would be nice if the Control center program came with the install disk for the GV card. Oh well, I guess I could download it if needed. Thanks again for the guidance...

OK, I am a bit confused. If I have this straight, I would load the CV2 at the remote monitoring PC's and Control Centre at the main monitoring PC, correct? In the event that I want to interact with all PC's/camera's, would I load Control Centre on all three PC's. Finally, are all these programs ones that come with the GeoVision PC/DVR cards? Sorry for my confusion, I have just never done this type of configuration before and want to make sure I do it right the first time. Thanks again..
