Scorpion- Camera is ~10-12ft high. No snow drifts...yet. Southern Idaho (Boise area) really doesn't get that much snow through the winter. Although there is a big storm working its way in now that could produce a few inches in the valley... Good to know that my hunch was somewhat on target. I am also wondering if there is condensation building on the lens that make it appear to be white out on the monitor, and once the outside temp warms a little it clears up.. I need to check the video logs to see what it looks like... Thanks for the feedback..

Hey Everyone. Has anyone experienced web access problems in the GeoVision system due to wireless signal strength? I have a client that I am working on getting intranet access to the camera system from another PC on his network. The camera PC is connected wirelessly and I am concerned if his signal strength has a direct relation to access through the network. I have set the Geo S/W to have the web server turned on and I can see that setting active when monitoring. I have also gone through the process of setting up the DNS service and forwarding the necessary ports through the wireless router. Problem I have is when I type in http://xxxxxxx.dipmap.com:8000 I get the screen that says the page can not be displayed. The signal strength on the linksys card on the camera PC indicates two bars which I am guessing is 20-30% signal strength. I do have internet on the camera PC, so I know I have enough signal strength for that function. Just curious if anyone else has ran into this problem.. Thanks for any assistance...

Has anyone had any problems setting up a PTZ camera in the GeoVision software and how did you fix it. I currently have a camera at a clients site that doesn't appear to be scanning like I would think they would. This is the first one I have installed, so I am not sure if something was missed. I can manually move the camera with no problems, and I try to setup preset points and still nothing. I tell it to auto scan and it doesn't seem to move, and when I tell it to go to a preset it doesn't. Any ideas?? Thanks,
-
I do have an on-screen control panel for the PTZ and there is a setup icon on that display. When I click on that, I have options such as scanning (where I select the auto scan function), "Preset setup" and "Preset Go". Within each preset menu, I have up 12-15 presets I can setup and should be able to go to. I did move the camera to a point I would want as a preset and then set it to preset 1, got the confirmation message and selected "Yes". But for some reason, when I go into the Preset Go menu and select Preset 1, the camera does nothing.. Not sure why... Does this help at all...?

I don't think I need to worry about the termination of the RS485 signal since I only have one PTZ on the system. As for the rates, etc., I do know that these are default settings from the camera mfgr. I'm pretty sure I set the setting to Protocol D, but I will double check that this afternoon when I swing my client location. Something tells me it is in the software profiles that is not setup correctly. I can "Set" a preset, but when I tell the system to "Go" to that preset or "Auto Scan" the camera is not moving... I'll keep working on this, and any other advice/ideas are greatly appreciated...

I have a client that is interested in setting up a dual monitor setup for a camera system (i.e. have the system setup to record to either a stand-alone DVR or PC based, and be able to see the camera images on a second monitor in another room). I am pretty sure that I could do a splitter of some kind that would take the images from a stand-alone DVR recorder/monitor and send it to another monitor, but I am not sure about a PC based system and getting the images to another monitor where the PC could go to sleep or power save mode. Is there a way with using a PC based system to keep the software running and visible on a second monitor without using a second PC in a network setup?? I appreciate any guidance that might be provided as I research the possibilities.. thanks.

The basic use needed is to just see what the camera's see. There is no control required, so it is basically a video feed sharing setup...

Has anyone ever setup a system to interupt TV display on-screen with surveillance video when activated? I have heard through the grapevine that this can be done and when setup it looks something like caller ID, only for the TV and interfacing with your surveillance system. What kind of equipment is required, etc.? Thanks..

OK, I am in the process of finalizing the installation of a system that has two PTZ camera's. Here is what I have done so far: 1) Installed camera's and ran cables 2) Installed GV-Net card 3) Connected power supplies and cables 4) Mapped PTZ camera's in GeoVision 5) Activated the PTZ's on the "General" config page 6) Selected the GV-Net card on the "I/O" config page 7) Connected the GV-Net card both through Com 1 and Com 3 The problem I have is, I have no PTZ control (Up/Down, Side to side, Zoom). Is there something I am missing here? I have checked the GV-net connection through Com 1 and Com 3 with no luck in gaining controls. Also, is there any way to change the default port of the GV-Net card to another com port? My client has another I/O device that is currently using Com 1. Any ideas??? Thanks..

Hey everyone, my name is Joe Barrett and I live here in Idaho. I am somewhat new to the CCTV world, but I am very much a technofile so I love learning new technology. I am looking forward to gaining lots of info in this community...

Has anyone out here had any experience with Systems from Crestron? I know their systems are setup to run more than just surveillance systems, and my concern is directly related to that part of the controls. I have a client that contacted me and this is what they are running (not sure on the model yet), and I thought I might inquire as to any red flags I should watch for in regards to these systems. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. thanks..

UPDATE... Removed the old com port card from PCI slot, installed the USB to Serial adapter software then plugged in the adapter. System immediately saw the adapter and loaded the drivers. I was able to set the port assignment through the adapter utilities. Once this was done, I reconfigured the GeoVision S/W on the PTZ's to use the new port and I then plugged in the GV-Net card. From that point, I opened the GeoVision software and started the PTZ control panel. Upon selecting any of the control buttons, the camera responded beautifully. Now through personal experience, anyone needing a com port option in relation to PTZ control, I highly recommend the Keyspan USB to Serial adapter. It does run about $40US, but well worth it. Very easy to use and head-ache reduction is huge with this adapter. I also picked this unit up at CompUSA and also found the same adapter available at a local OfficeMax store. Thanks again for all the insight through this process and I hope my findings can assist others..

Camera Model is a Sony CD51W 12X Zoom Dome. I have not attempted to reverse the wires at this point. I have wired them up per the wiring schematic from the camera manual to match that of the wiring schematic of the GV-net card. Checking the wire continuity was the next step before actually running a higher guage wire. I honestly hadn't suspected this since the one camera that I am running the single harness isn't working either, I figured the likely-hood of having three bad harnesses was slim. Also, there is no mention of wire size over distance in the camera manual, but I did experience ~12-14V drop on the 240' cable on the power side (i.e. ~28-31V at the transformer and 16-17V at the terminal connection at the camera). When I get back to the site this afternoon I will be doing the following: 1) Connect through the USB-Serial adapter. 2) Check continuity through the RS-485 wires 3) Reverse the wires if no activity after first two bullets 4) Test with higher guage wire. I am going to hope that after these efforts something happens....

Actually, this is the 1st for this type application (PTZ install that is). I have tried com4 with no luck. As for wire connections, the RS485 wires are Orange and Yellow which through the harness are matched. On the GV-net card, I have Orange going to the "+" connection and Yellow going to the "-" connection. I am starting to wonder if there is a problem with the PCI serial card, so I am going to try a USB to serial adapter and see if that gains me any control. After that, I will probably try a higher guage wire for the RS485 lines and hope that works. The cables that inter-connects to the camera's are 120' long, and one camera has two of these (240') daisy chained together in which I already had to run a higher guage wire for power since I was loosing too much voltage on the line. Aside from physically taking the camera down and directly connecting it to the PC, I'm afraid I may not have any other options. Thoughts?? Thanks.

I guess I could try Com 4. The PC I am working on has a serial adapter card (PCI) installed and I can see both Com 3 and 4 in the hardware manager. I wonder if I can recall com 3 on the card to com 2 instead. The camera's are Sony 12X PTZ setup for the Pelco-D protocol. As for cabling, I am basically using an all in one cable that has the video signal, +/- RS485 and +24V. I'm pretty sure the video feed and power are working since I can get video images, just no movement which leads me to believe something isn't right with the GV-Net card.. Thoughts???

Setting Up an on-screen date/time stamp using GV-600 card
anchorjoe replied to anchorjoe's topic in Geovision
Thanks for the info. Something else I did find out in my research was that for the text overlay option to be accessible, all camera recording needs to be turned off. This is something that the manual does not tell you, which might have been why I couldn't see it the last time I tried to figure this problem out. You probably already knew that, so this tid-bit might be for others curious about the same thing. Thanks again for the feed-back. I will be working on this system on Sunday 10/21, so hopefully everthing will go smoothly... -
I have recently installed a GV-600(8 ) PC card with two cameras. I am preparing to upgrade the system and add 5 more cameras. Everything is working fine and recording normally. The problem I have is I would like to have a date/time stamp showing on-screen for both live and recording viewings. Can someone please walk me through the process of turning this feature on in this system. I have searched everywhere, so I am hoping someone in this group can assist. Thanks,

Setting Up an on-screen date/time stamp using GV-600 card

This is outside of a POS setting correct? I have been slowly reading the GeoVision manual and I have not found it yet, so I wanted to make sure before I get to my remote location and actually look at the configure menu.. -
