I have a GeoVision system that I am about to setup and run and I have a question. The system I am planning to use is running Windows 98. Can anyone tell me if Ver 8.3 with the GV800-8 card will run in Windows 98, or do I need to upgrade to XP? Thanks for your help and guidance...

Is there anyone out here that has connected a Bosch 10X PTZ (model number: VEZ-021-HWCS) to a PC/DVR system running the latest version of GeoVision S/W? I have a client that has three of these on three different PC systems and none of them are working. On one system I do also have a Nuvico 35X PTZ along with the Bosch unit and the Nuvico is working just fine, so I believe the PC settings are correct. My thought is that there is a DIP switch setting inside the camera that I need to change, but the camera manual does not give any insight on this. My client is loosing patience, so I am hoping and praying that someone in this community has worked with this camera/GeoVision software and was successful in getting the camera to move through the software.. P.S. I have power and video to the camera's, just no movement. Can someone please guide me in the right direction on this.. Thx..

Hey Everyone, Is there anyone out here that has experienced or tested output control to two different PTZ camera's with a RS-232 (Com1) splitter? I have a client that ended up getting two different type PTZ camera's from my supplier (without knowing till after install), and I need to know if I can use the same com1 port for both. I already know that I will need to purchase and install a second GV-Net card to control the other camera, but I am now curious if I can use the same port to control both GV-net cards or if I need to use the com port for one card and use a USB to Serial adapter for the other. Thanks for any quidance... For reference, one camera is setup on the Pelco-D protocol and the other camera will need to be setup on the Lilin Merit protocol. Thus the need for two GV-Net cards. Thx.

Splitting RS-232 to control two different PTZ protocols
anchorjoe replied to anchorjoe's topic in Geovision
Andy, Thanks for the reply and insight. I will keep this info handy for the next job I do. The particular client I was working on that I was wondering on this subject for is refusing to pay me for work completed so I am not going to do anymore work on this project. He can hire someone else to deal with his crap. I have over $1500 of my own money into the project that I will most likely not get back, so it becomes a mute point to actually worry about for this project.. Maybe next time... I agree, if there is anyone out there that has done the com port split for two different PTZ protocols I would love to hear about the results.. Thanks.. -
Hi everyone. I am hoping to get a quick answer on this question. Does anyone know if the Merit Lilin PIH-7000NL PTZ camera will work with the Pelco-D protocol settings. I recently got three of these as replacements for a clients project I am working on, and low and behold the manual doesn't indicate which protocol to use. I am really hoping this is the case since one system on my clients site currently has a Nuvico PTZ that is setup for the Pelco D protocol and I am hoping I can just add this second PTZ to the system and have the camera ID address control which one moves and such.. Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide...

Oh, your answer is a godsend. That is what I was hoping the answer would be. I circled this answer with my supplier and they told me that it needed its own control interface. The problem I would have is I have three separate systems running and on one system there is a Nuvico setup with the Pelco-D protocol and working fine. So, after hearing back from my supplier and not liking the answer, I thought Iwould turn to this forum for more expert advice. I now have more confidence that these camera's will be OK with the Pelco-D protocol. I will run with this advice today when I install the units. Thanks again for the insight...

Help Desperately needed with Bosch PTZ and GeoVision
anchorjoe replied to anchorjoe's topic in Geovision
I am running RG-59 with 18GA combo cable for power and video feed, and I am also running 18GA shielded (two conductor) for the RS-485 control. These are the same lines I am running for the Nuvico camera which is running good on the same system that a bosch is not... Do you know if the bosch model should call out specifically for the RS-485 control to work properly. These camera's have a wiring diagram that indicates (+/-) biphase control, and I am not familiar with that terminology and I assumed this was the same as RS-485 control... -
Thanks Andy. I think this will work out great then. My plan was to load the GeoVision Control Center on a fourth PC that has a static IP so the client could log into that system remotely to see the camera systems. I also wanted to be able to take one of the PC/DVR systems and log into the system with the control center loaded so that my client could also see all the camera's from his office monitor when he was in the office. Based on what I have read so far, I think this will work out great. Thanks for the help...

Hey everyone, Happy Monday.. I have a few questions I am hoping to get some guidance on. I have a project that I am working to close out and I am not quite sure if my idea will work or not. I have three PC's setup with the GV-800-8 PC/DVR cards and I was going to use the GV Control Center to bring them all together on one monitor. Can I install this software on a fourth PC to bring the PC/DVR systems together and then log into this system with windows remote desktop and still maintain control? And, could I theoretically log into this forth system with one of the PC/DVR systems and have the same control features without conflicts to the GeoVision software that would be running in the back-ground? Thank you so much for any guidance... Joe

Thanks. Good to know. I think what I will have to do is load the Control Center on a fourth PC and then just log into it remotely from there. Do you know if it will create any issues if I log into this program from a PC that is running the GeoVision Main S/W. I am hoping I can do this and not create any issues with the PC/DVR recording program..

Hi everyone, I have a question regarding a couple of PTZ's I am installing for a client and need some guidance. I have three separate PC's setup running GV-800-8 cards in each PC. On all three systems, I have one Bosch Autodome Easy (model: VEZ-021-HWCS) on each, and one Nuvico SD-Z35 PTZ on one of the three systems (so, I have two PTZ's on one system, and one on each of the other two- 4PTZ's total). I have two of the three PC systems up (two with the Bosch PTZ's only) and running with images coming from the PTZ. I have gone into the GeoVision software and mapped the PTZ's by ID address, com port, etc. as well as selected the only Bosch PTZ on the GeoVision list. Question I have is has anyone used this kind of PTZ and what settings did you have to use to get it to work correctly with the GeoVision program? I am kindof thinking that I need to use a different camera model from the pull down list, but I don't know which one will work. Also, I have left the default settings on the SD-Z35 camera thinking it would default to ID#1 and then I set the Bosch's to ID's 2-4 accordingly. Does anyone have any experience with the SD-Z35 camera and the default settings, will it default to ID#1 on the system. I am also concerned if the GeoVision software will see the PTZ address as 1-the address location (ex. camera set to ID#1, so to work it I need to select address 0 in the on-screen control panel)... Thank you so much for any expertise on this matter.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if there is a special driver I need to load from GeoVision for the USB to work properly, or is it just the built in drivers from Windows? I seem to recall that there was a special driver I needed, but stressing over this function I may be smoking something....

I am using the USB port vs. the serial port, and I have been wondering about that. It is a great idea to take the camera and connect directly to the system vs. through the cable to test the settings. Unfortunately, I don't usually have a spare camera to test with. I think between the USB vs. serial port and the model selection in the Geo S/W, that might be where the problem is since I have tried to get control with different address selections. Thanks for the insight..

Hey everyone, I have a client that I am getting ready to setup a system for and need some guidance on capturing all the camera images on one display. Here are the system basics: - Three buildings - Each building will have an independent GV-800-8 PC/DVR card to control camera's per each building. - Each PC will be connected via a wireless network to a central building. What settings do I need to configure in the GeoVision software to enable the camera systems in the two remote builds to be visable with the third system with the central display? I have done a little research and I think the Control Center V2 option might work, but I honestly have never done a setup with this option and I'm not sure what will work best. Anyone's expertise in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

Thanks Andy. I am assuming the paths you provided are from the GeoVision website? right? So, I should be able to install Control Center into all three PC's, direct the connections from the main display PC to connect to the other two and it should work right? My appologizes for all the questions, it is just that this client is so far away that I want to make sure I have the process down on this before I drive all the way out there on Sunday and work on setting it all up... It would be nice if the Control center program came with the install disk for the GV card. Oh well, I guess I could download it if needed. Thanks again for the guidance...

OK, I am a bit confused. If I have this straight, I would load the CV2 at the remote monitoring PC's and Control Centre at the main monitoring PC, correct? In the event that I want to interact with all PC's/camera's, would I load Control Centre on all three PC's. Finally, are all these programs ones that come with the GeoVision PC/DVR cards? Sorry for my confusion, I have just never done this type of configuration before and want to make sure I do it right the first time. Thanks again..
-
Andy, Thanks for the insight. The wireless network is going to be setup by my computer guy that I contract to and he assures me that the connection will be at least 70% or better. As for the CV2 vs. DVR, I assume you are referring to software that comes with the PC-DVR card and it is just a matter of loading the software to configure on each PC. Also, is the IP address of the CV2 for the PC that I wish to see all the camera on? I have never configured a system with this option so the more detail on setup I can get will be most helpful. Thank you for the information you have provided..

Hi everyone, happy Presidents Day. Hey, does anyone have a good source I can use for Anti-Vandal cages for IR cameras? I have a client I am bidding a job for and they would like to put cages around the camera's to prevent vandalism, and I for the life of me can't seem to find a good source. Thanks for your help...

Hey everyone, I am working on a project for a coffee shop and in my initial consult a question came up that I am researching, so I thought I would post the question out here. The question that came up was related to building permit requirements for installing a surveillance camera system. I have attempted to call the related city offices and have yet to get an answer. Does anyone have any experience in this area? Would a permit be required to install a camera system in a commercial type application. I am fairly confident that one is required for AC power type installations, but where most camera systems are low voltage/wattage I'm not sure. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million....
-
Thanks guys for the helpful insight. I will continue my research on code requirements and see what I can find out on permits for my state. This project is my first new construction project and I want to make sure I do the right thing through the whole process. I know through my experience in electronics/electrical environments, "shock" can be a very bad thing. My main concern is whether certain entities need to be involved where camera's are typically a low voltage application, etc. You insights give me a great starting point. Thanks again...

Thanks for the info. Do you know where I might look to find out what the installation specifics might be for cable routing, etc.? Thanks for the feed-back...

Just a quick question. I am working on a project in which I am going to contract out part of it to a partner of mine and a question came up on output bandwidth of the recording device. Reason the question came up is there will be a wireless network with the camera images sent to a main display PC. Can someone point me in the direct of determining the device band width? Does it relate to the FPS rating of the device? What about mpeg rates. Just want to make sure I provide the correct answer.. Thanks...

Hi everyone.. I have a client that I recently installed a system for and recently I was called and informed that the PTZ camera I installed had a solid white display with no picture. I stopped by the site to check the system out and to my surprise the camera's were all working normally. Has anyone ever had any problems with PTZ camera's acting intermittently? The camera is a Sony CD51W. I am also wondering if the problem is related to outside temperature. I live in Southern Idaho and in the last few weeks the overnight temps have been in the 20's. It is very bizarre since I have another client with the same camera's and there have been zero complaints. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks...
-
Another issue I have seen with some PTZ's is the address setting. I am not too familiar with the DVR you are using, but I have see addressing issues before on other setups I have done. In my case, the camera was configured to address 1, but the control needed to be setup for one less than that to work (i.e. camera at address 1, controller at address 0) for the specific camera. So, if you have the camera's configured to use address 1 and 2, you might try configuring your controller to use addresses 0 and 1 and see what that does. Just a thought..

Thanks for the feed-back. I was actual at the clients site yesterday doing system maintanence and I happen to go in and review the video logs for the PTZ. It appears that between 9:30AM and 11AM the image gets brighter to the point of almost total whiteout. Then around 11:15AM the image begins to come back. The camera is pointing in the same spot during this time each day. So, my thought at this point is there isn't a problem with the camera related to temperature; rather, there is a reflection coming from some where that is hitting the camera and it can't adjust enough to compensate. I have adjusted to camera settings down a bit to hopeful make it less sensitive to reflections, and see what that does for the camera...
