hi all Im looking to use a PTZ camera, just the camera not the whole case and put it into a much smaller waterproof box and construct a window for the lens to see out of. but im worryed that being out side i will get all kind of condensating problems so im thinking to put a heater inside, a little like the regular external housings which have a box camera in them. so the heater will only come on when it cold enough. I rather not use a heater if i can get away with it, im thinking if the unit is properly sealed then the heat generated from the camera through normal useage should be enough to ward off any condensation. as the little domes you can get has no heater and there for external use while writing this im now realising that the heater regulates the temprature just right depending on out side temps. So since i seen to of answered my own question, Any one out there ever made there own external housings?? any comments welcome cheers ron

thanks to all for help with my last problem, im looking a a few different PTZ domes and one has 64 preset positions and the other has only 2 and one gaurd position. and there is a big differance in price also one has a super HAD sony camera and ive no experiance with sony HAD. questions; I thought preseta were part of the DVR software and not the dome? Is super HAD that much better with image quality?

hi all I brought a couple of small day/night CCD domes from............. yep you guess it Ebay. actually not bad at all but notice slight wavey lines and the more detailed the image the worse the waves are. the cable ive used is not coax, as i thought i may as well take advantage of the free AV Lead (RCA)all in one as it come with it i thought it should work fine altho i had reservations due to its size of 4 cm dia. ive now used coax to test and found no interference you are prob thinking well "you had a problem, You've found the solution?" yes but ive already installed one camera and rather not re-run in coax and seperate power. any ideas what you may do in this situation i thought hum bar rejecters but thats just for mains? cheers

Interference on cheap cctv cable
ronbo replied to ronbo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
so just when i thought the problem was solved... i only checked the day images and they was very good but on looking and the night time image the Interference has come back and im sure its worse? as the LEDs are on. so i will need to get even closer to the camera at night and try with a battery. with all this in mind ive already ran coax and seperate power in the form of an 4/8 core to the cameras . never had problems with that before! moral of the storey "It is too good to be true" -
Interference on cheap cctv cable
ronbo replied to ronbo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
its standard brick. but found the problem, when i tested a simaler camera with the same power supply and coax it worked fine with no waves and when i used the cable in question i had the interferance again. so that led me to think it was the video part of the cable but i got asked to check the power supply as he said, and i quote; "the power supply is not very well regulated. The ac component in what should be a dc supply is being induced in to the video" so with out a fully charged 12v battery i used and old but better quality 12 v mains supply and.............................. Works perfect !! no interferance so i will change the power supply. So luckly i dont need to undo my handy work too soon -
Interference on cheap cctv cable
ronbo replied to ronbo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
i would like to and to do it properlywith coax but i have installed the camera on a pebble dash wall and in order to have no cable showing on the pebble dash i ingeniously chiseled a line out of the wall filled with mastic and stuck bits of pebble dash onto it so now the cable cant be seen as it does look rather good even by my standards. so i could rip it out and start again but would like to leave it if possible. so would you say that the strands running the video are too small and may be the 12 volts are effecting the image? As when i did another job i used a 4 core alarm cable and it worked fine( ps was a local job not a proper works job) -
hi all Got an old and cheap Maplin 4 ch DVR, ( actually its not as bad as what you may think) anyway the in built clock doesnot work. I can set the time and date but when i exit to live pictures and the clock dont move, even when play back. i thought it may be the internal battery but replaced it but no joy even shorted the two jumpers next to it but nothing. any ideas??

tryed a few things more, i take its not going to be easy to fix this problem if the chips gone?
-
as the unit was cheap and is out of warranty that would be the last resort, i take it that its a single simple chip that is used but if i wanted to replace it i would have to speak to the chinnes manufactuer may have to lease how it is for now, also when i short out the jumper the seconds digits change to the number 5 and the @ sign. Does that mean any think? cheers

Hi all, after playing around with my VCL dome ive found that it only uses up the coax, i dont know much about this but know i may not be able to use my PC DVR with it as i want to control it using the coms port and RS 232/485 converter. is there any way around this as ive been told i would need a maxcom keyboard and there for be a stand alone and then i wouldnt be able to use my PC DVR with is important for the site in question and it keeps the cost down. any ideas? ive looked for some sort of converter but dont think it excist

ive been told that my VCL ptz dome is up the coax only but i want to use my DVR PC to control it ... is this possible or is the only thing to use is the maxcom keyboard as a stand slone?? im getting closeer to the light in the tunnel, i think...
-
ive tryed finding a DVR PC card that dcan use 'up the coax' but so far ive dran a blank as this method of controling PTZ seems to be old tech
-
Yes but the PTZ does have the data +/- and i was trying to control the PTZ though that but after all my efforts ive found that this dome only uses 'up the coax' so and adaptor that takes the signal from the re232 through to the coax would solve the problem... Question is , does such an adaptor avalible?
-
But the fact that the unit only used up the coax means that the PC DVR card wont work?
-
ya this dome does support the pelco D and P and VCL protocal and also two more, but is there a way i can use my PC DVR card (which i can select which protocal) to function with my PTZ dome as Honeywell told me that it can only be used with the keyboard and by doing that it defets the whole object which im trying to do. any ideas or are Honeywell right and i need a keyboard?? ron

PTZ and DVR which one is not working?.......
ronbo posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Now, after many months on and off my little mission of connecting my VCL dome to numerous DVR PC cards. im at the point where I think i have tryed everything.........or have i? Ive set the protocal of my VC8E to pelco D and so my DVR to the same, via the COM1 port with a RS converter. ive selected the Baud rate ect, and tryed using the other options on the dvr like CPELCO_D CPELCO_P APELCO_D TE PELCO_D_D PECO_D PELCO_P all having there own baud rate some 2400,9600 ect i even downloaded a coms port monitor to check if that works, well i can see the data being transmitted to the prot from the dvr software but nothing happens at the camera? im guessing its down to the cam???? any ideas as my girlfriend keeps going on at me to throw it, but i cant untill i definatly know it F***ed -

ronbo replied to ronbo's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
only now just had time to check. Yes i see about 5 volts, its one that ive taken out of old system that as far as im aware was all fully working. so im thinking may be the i need the resister ( altho i only keep 1 k ones on the van) or the protocal ive set on the dome needs changing -
