  1. Canon already purchased Milestone and now they want Axis. Last week Panasonic purchased Video Insite. The whole industry just changed. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-02-10/canon-to-buy-sweden-s-axis-communications-for-2-8-billion

    Canon plans to purchase Axis

Axis sells direct say it ain't so Did you do the math on that check they had to stroke? They are up to 3000+ Axis cameras now. 25% are PTZ. I have heard from plenty of other people that if you write a big enough check Axis will sign you up as a partner. Again another reason I don't actively sell Axis camera. Also no one makes money selling Axis but Axis.

Actually what happens is people will apply for project pricing for Axis and order extra cameras then they dump them on the internet for cheap.

I am interested to see a "Axi-Stone" solution where the cameras are fully integrated with Milestone's VMS like Avigilon has with their cameras. Everyone was bashing Avigilon's model and now everyone's copying it.

    Canon plans to purchase Axis

If Canon doesn't combine Axis and Milestone this will go down as the worst business decision ever. Avigilon has been so successful because they make more money per channel. Compared to just selling cameras or VMS licenses

    Canon plans to purchase Axis

I have some very large customers were support is most important to them. I have shown them Hik and they said thanks but were not interested. We also discovered a major bug in Hikvisions cameras where some cameras have the same unique identifier as others. This is major problem when you connect 2 of them on the same VMS. Not to mention I am not interesting is promoting the "race to the bottom" which Hikvision/Dahua have no problem making happen. Good think is Hikvision/Dahua suck developing user friendly software and the market is now switching to end to end solutions. Soon there will not be any independent. Lastly I would also defend Hikvsion/Dahua if I had a review site that refers people to a sister e-commerce site that I secretly own.

We can only spiculate that Axis wanted to sell. Based on the offer that Canon has on the table this is one of those offers that is very hard to turn down. I also think this is a smart move for Canon as Milestone and Axis's headquarters is/was only 50 miles apart. As for Hikvision and Dahua. The jury is still out for me. Image quality is good and they seem to be reliable but no one has been able to prove that there cameras and DVR/NVRs are secure and don't have any back door access. I am spoken with many people that feel the same way.
  9. I never really considered mounting them at lower height like this. That is significantly more useful than I had in my head based on all of the other pictures I've seen. We have mounted many of the Avigilon 180s 7-8ft off the ground and the customer is extremely happy with the results. One lobby we have 2 180 cameras installed and we have total coverage and ID shots at every door.
  10. Where are you guys installing these where another camera style just wouldn't do? I can think of a number of spots to place them, but those same locations could just as easily have a dome or bullet in it's place. Is it just their low profile nature that draws people to them. I'm clearly missing something with these and I've been begging people for awhile to lay into me and tell me how stupid I'm being. Edit: Is it an FOV thing and not wanting to use multiple cameras to cover the same area? Keep in mind its one cable for basicly 4 cameras and one VMS license. In hospitals it can get very pricey to run cables so this camera can be very useful IF IT WORKED We mounted the 20MP OMNI on the side of a building with man doors on either side of the camera. We used 2.8mm lenses for 2 of the imagers to give us a 180 FOV and then we used 8mm lens for ID shots at one door and 16mm lens for ID shots at the other door. total coverage on the one side of the building with 1 camera.
  11. How has the reliability been with those for you? I have 3 different customers with them and they ALL have issues.

  14. The OMNI camera concept is awesome. I have a customer that is extremely happy with the coverage but not so happy that the camera only working 10% of the time. Need another manufacturer to produce this camera and I will sell a lot of them
  15. Of the 4k cameras I have seen I haven't been that impressed. I have the Axis 4k camera and the image looks good until to start to drill into the image. You have to up the bit rate if you want detail.
  16. Soon as we are moved into our new location we will begin testing multiple cameras and VMS platforms. I will have video from all Avigilon cameras You can test all the ACTi lol

    Avigilon View

VIEW only works with the HD VideoIQ cameras and Railtos. I think you will find ACC is a much improved interface over VIEW.
  18. to connect to cameras via ONVIF make sure the time is sync'd to the server otherwise they will not connect.
  19. I think they have a ONVIF user setup that you need to do to get them to connect. it's been awhile.
  20. I have only seen I/O for cameras connected via ONVIF (other then Avigilon) Your other option is to get a MOXA network I/O unit and use that for the trigger interface.
  21. You have 2 options when connecting Axis's cameras to Avigilon. Axis or Axis (ONVIF). Try connecting using ONVIF and see if the I/Os show up.
  22. What are the model numbers of your Axis cameras? Are you connecting to Aviglion using ONVIF or Axis drivers?

    Avigilon Trial

Never seen cameras show up like that on in the camera tree.
