  1. I can only think of two known, reputable, manufacturers who do allow others to install harddrives. And on the flip side of that coin: Panasonic, GE/UTC, Toshiba, Dedicated Micros, Bosch, Pelco, American Dynamics, Honeywell, ARM, Mace, Speco, Everfocus, Vitek, Nuvico, Digital Watchdog, etc. Do not allow it. Yup and that is what dealers and integrators are for

    ACTI vs AXIS encoders

That's good to know... VERY good to know. Thanks! Now keep in mind I haven't tested this encoder so until I do for don't believe anything

    ACTI vs AXIS encoders

According to Exacq, one license per MAC/device, no matter how many channels. So you can get four channels of video on a single license? Wow... Milestone, Luxriot, etc charge you per-channel... so a four-port Axis server requires four licenses. Exacpt for the Axis 4704 that has 4 IP address. So the 16 channel Acti encoder I am looking at requires one Exacq license. The job I am spec'ing needs 11 of them so yea gonna save a lot of money with Exacq
  4. Well your NOT gonna get high frame rates over DSL with Megapixel cameras. Any camera on Exacq supported camera list works fine with them. If you need a authorized reseller for Exacq please PM me. I can even build the system and have it pre-configured before it goes out the door and provide remote support. For a pain-free install
  5. Sounds like firmware issues
  6. Not unless they are Onvif

    ACTI vs AXIS encoders

According to Exacq, one license per MAC/device, no matter how many channels. Yea and that encoder only uses one IP address according to the manual. The one thing I do not like with the 16 channel unit which I will be using, it's only 10/100 for 16 channels.
  8. I wouldn't sell it but this is what you want..... The MSRP for the appliance is $4,800 http://www.gviss.com/products/ip/gvraz.php not sure if your if it works with MAC though but it does all of the other stuff you want. Other option is Exacq the server runs on Linux or Windows and the client runs on Mac,Windows and Linux. Browser you can use with anything including smart phones.

    ACTI vs AXIS encoders

I wonder how many Exacq licences it needs.

    Building NVR Specs

Exacq supports the new axis network i/o device with 8 in/outs... also most IP cameras have built-in I/o triggers
  11. Did you select the mic in the audio box and make sure mute is not checked?

Luxriot can do server or client motion detection. Do you see a "Motion Detection" tab when you log into the Vivtotek camera? I would try move all motion detection to the cameras and see what happens to your CPU load. Also if this was my build I would know exactly how much bandwidth is coming into the servers. What raid card are you using?

Hybrid is the best way to go and the ELS boxes are very good. http://www.exacq.com/products/exacqvisionELS.html Are the hard drives in the ELS boxes user upgradeable? Can you simply swap out, say a 250GB, with your own 2TB? Can these also read/write standard NAS shares (non iSCSI)? Not end user upgradeable and iSCSI.

Are these servers only or clients too? Reason I ask is the SSD could give you some problems depending on how they render the video. The SSDs are only 30GB, according to the OP; I'm guessing those are dedicated as the system drives, so they shouldn't really have an effect on the video. If used a Client/Server setup depending on the VMS they can. Also what is you bandwidth coming into the servers?

And so do Exacq, VI, Milestone... I am just asking what his setup is. With this many MP cameras you want you use client machines and keep the servers in the rack.

I have used VI and I had major problems with it to the point where they refunded the money. Now this was 2 years ago so hopefully they got the bugs worked out. Right now I use Exacq, testing Milestone and Avigilon next.

So all of your cameras are MP? So you have 2 servers with 48TB each?

I love Surfire.... favorite tool. Also check out http://www.fenixlight.com
  20. Is the camera and the NAS on the same network? I set my q24 to record to a QNAP as a FTP and I was able to see the recorded video using the web interface of the camera over the net. I also tested the MxEasy and it works.
  21. You can use FTP or windows share.

    Advice on which DVR

I would look at Qnap, Avermedia, NUUO or Exacq for turn key headless NVRS.
