    Cameras for a Marina

Define "high resolution"? Are you talking megapixel, or just high-res analog (540+TVL)? What sort of coverage are you after - ie. FOV vs. distance? If it's something that a 2.8-10.5mm lens would cover, the CNB VxM-24VF line would be well worth a look - 600TVL, ICR, excellent low-light support, IP66 rated. If you need longer lenses than that, check the BBM-24VF, a box-style camera based on the same chip, along with a suitable lens and environmental housing (we generally use the Pelco EH35xx line). I don't think WDR would be necessary, but you'd certainly want something with auto-iris to adjust for widely varying lighting conditions. You're looking mainly for "off hours" coverage, which probably means you're mainly concerned with night viewing, where WDR situations are unlikely. Based off my experience with the CNB VxM-24VF I would not recommend this camera for locations with lots of sun or reflections. Great camera for low light but not for the sun. If your looking at HD I would take a look at Avigilon if you have the budget for it.
  2. Only difference is expandability. FS108P only have 4 POE ports where the GS110TP has 8 POE. For your camera count the FS108P will work fine.
  3. The cameras are 10/100 and you only have 4 of them so you will not have a problem 10/100 switch. Here are a could of options for you. http://www.netgear.com/products/business/switches/smart-switches/FS726TP.aspx http://www.netgear.com/products/business/switches/smart-switches/GS110TP.aspx This is what we used at Mobotix training http://www.netgear.com/products/business/switches/unmanaged-desktop-switches/FS108P.aspx

    photocell switch 12v

Yea I guess they would have a swing time.... I would have to test it. I could compensate with pre event recording but I would like to trigger right way
  5. Anyone have any links to a 12V photocell switch. I would like to power the switch with 12 or 24 volts and it must have a relay output. Thanks

    photocell switch 12v

the customer wants to trigger recording when the light comes on. The camera has a dry contact input and I would like to power the photocell with low voltage so I don't have to use my electrician. Option B is to use a relay off the light switch.

Hybrid is the best way to go and the ELS boxes are very good. http://www.exacq.com/products/exacqvisionELS.html

    1. Exacq does not perform the compression; the cameras perform the compression and Exacq stores the streams to disk. 2. You won't need too much horsepower. 3. Use an internal hard drive(s). It's fast, reliable, and cheap. 4. On board video may be fine, or cheap reliable video card. Best, Christopher thanks for the response. displaying 16 cameras at once from recording images I'm thinking I would need at least core i7...no? Yes you are correct.... You will need a good CPU for a client/server setup to display multiple megapixel cameras

dealer and end user. I am specifically dealing with small to medium sized business and residential apps. I need a easy to use meat and potatoes software. I currently sell and install the new line of samsung products SDR series dvr. They are great. But analogue leaves alot to be desired with resolution. I have no problems putting my own machines together if that is a more economical route. Without trading quality of product vs the manufacturers products. I'd like to use 2 and 3 mega outside and 1.3 mega inside. But for obvious reasons the software need only record and be easily accessible for the business owner or home owner. Too many complications and options and the phone calls never end. also will the software rescale the video size when viewing remotely. I don't want to get into a situation where someone is searching for video remotely and the interface is reacting slowly to commands or playback. Obviously internet connection is good. 3-5 mbps upload on most of my sites. please name a software What is your budget? Have you ever installed IP or MP before? You will need a computer with a good CPU for a client/server setup with MP cameras and remote viewing recorded video will be painfully slow. Exacq has a webclient for remote viewing which trans-codes the video but this does you no good when you what to pull the full recorded images and search remotely. Milestone might be a better option if your looking view recorded footage remotely but it's more money and not as easy to use for the end user. I would recommend you download demo software from different VMS providers and see what best fits your needs for your customers.

Are you a dealer or end user? There are so many options for VMS your gonna have to figure out what features you want first before you start spec'ing server requirements.

MAC O/S and DVR's remote view

Well I am sorry that is the way you feel. After all this is a CCTV forum, not entirely a megapixel video forum. But the fact is these images are being used TODAY to capture real world criminals, almost EVERYDAY. Additionally I would have to say the police in your case do not know what they are doing, or the system was not installed properly. As for the latter, if you can get the sale, then more power to you. No the problem is they need detail and to be able to identify some one (and prove it in court) on the other side of the walkway you need more PPF and there is only one way to do that with D1 and that is to add more cameras and it is much easier to do that with HD/Megapixel and cheaper.

MAC O/S and DVR's remote view

By the way, speaking of rock bottom units, I realize you are not happy with D1 but most are, here are a couple samples from a DVR I have been testing for the past couple weeks. It is from Dahua in China and resold by a couple companies in the US, yes I know China, but it is good for the price, really good for the price. I have tested or used many sub $500 DVRs and this one just takes the cake and runs with it. If I told you the price of the 16 channel you might be pleasantly surprised. Even with a couple flaws that I dont like, the cost and the features that do work just make it definitely something that cannot be ignored. I am picky and as always I will find a flaw in EVERYTHING, ask anyone. Now I could digitally enhance the images even more by sharpening, but I wont, these are raw images captured over the network, not even the recorded video which could be higher quality due to lack of VBR in these networked examples. Enough talk, here are the image samples: Now when looking at these images, captured in some form of H.264, recall these are not the regular consumer products nor are they Megapixel, in fact this is the manufacturers most basic unit, also these are old cameras and not the BEST focus to begin with due to mix and match lenses and auto irises. But for example I get the 4 channel for $130, in the US. Sorry but I think those images are good for 5 years ago. Rory I am working with a township right now to rip out all of the D1 stuff and replace it with megapixel. The police can not identify anyone in the video so the system is useless to them. Also I am working with anther customer that has over 150 analog cameras and it's the same story they want to upgrade to HD/megapixel because they can not identify people in with the system. So I am sorry unless you only need to cover a small area D1 just does not do anything for me.

MAC O/S and DVR's remote view

No sorry I never got it installed. There were installation issues. I have used Mobotix though, just never got the Exacq server to install. Was it on a clean install? I have never had any problems installing Exacq on a clean Windows or Linux PC. I am currently testing Milestone Enterprise on my server and wow, it's way more complicated then Exacq but the integration with the Mobotix Q24 is very nice. I have a Q24 mounted on the front of my house and it can see everything!!!! I am gonna have to get on the developers again to get Mobotix integrated.

MAC O/S and DVR's remote view

Sir with all due respect, in professional CCTV we dont use q-see DVRs. Additionally I think I already praised the Exacq as more than a DVR. I am not sure what else I am supposed to say, seeing as I have never used their product? Well not everyone and roy you have used their software

Do most PTZ cameras provide "tracking" capability?

Yea Auto-tracking sounds good on paper but not in the real world.

MAC O/S and DVR's remote view

Sounds good ps. when i show people 64 cameras in a 64 way view made up of several geo and dahua dvrs and various axis ip cams from around the world, on my little asus 701 eee pc they almost faint I don't get execited by D1 anymore And I have run Exacq on Atom PCs with Megapixel cameras.

MAC O/S and DVR's remote view

going by the price I found online, thats more than 4 times the cost of a DVR? Also no 4 channel available. It looks nice but I dont think it should be considered the same as a DVR, its a little more than that Well the ELS box comes either 8 or 16 channels h.264 D1 all channel with up to 24 IP cameras, so yea it's not a q-see DVR this is a enterprise class solution. Yes you can also build your own with encoders for cheaper if you would like, I have build many of them. Also they are coming out with a new line of smaller hybrids and NVRs very soon.

MAC O/S and DVR's remote view

Exacq is not a DVR though, its NVR software. Exacq has Hybrid DVRs,, NVRs and VMS software. This customer would be looking at the ELS boxes. http://www.exacq.com/products/exacqvisionELS.html What would you like to demo? I can setup a web-x and walk you though the software.
  21. + 1 with Ubiquiti gear. I have used it with Routerboard and it is rock solid.
  22. Just so you know you call also log into multi-able servers with Exacqs web interface and review recorded video.
