Avigilon Trial
thewireguys replied to jaskarn's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Having dual streams is a good thing. Avigilon uses HDSM to automatically switch between streams depending on screen resolution and avaible bandwidth. While always recording the full res stream. I have been using the M3007 with Avigilon for years. I find it most effective wall mounted. The major advantage of Avgilon over Exacq is the speed of searching and reviewing video. Also Avigilon has more polished user interface. If you need to use Mac with Avigilon their HTML5 web interface works very well in any browser. -
Avigilon license plate recognition
thewireguys replied to cglaeser's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
190ft with the 9-22MM will never work reliably with ALPR. Having experience with Avigilon's ALPR this is not a good idea at this distance. Good luck. -
Avigilon license plate recognition

8MP pro is not a good idea for ALPR I recommend you talk with your Avigilon dealer...They should be able to design the right setup for you. -
Only part of dropcam that is remotely attractive is lack of port forwarding. Everything is else is weak compared to other product offerings.

We have had great luck with Vigitron. We took over a mall with 1500ft coax runs which I tested with Veracity no bueno. No issues with Vigitron powering UNBT wireless APs, Arecont 360 cameras and Avigilon PTZ cameras which require POE+ Next week we are installing 2 Avigilon dome cameras using Vigitrons POE over 2-wire solution in a couple of elevators. Great product just need to improve marketing.

CCTV Business: Marketing Ideas Discussion
thewireguys replied to dave1983's topic in General Digital Discussion
Well I got our first police department by getting a ticket At my old house we live on a snow emergency route. I moved my car out to the street so I could clear my driveway and I went inside to go to the bathroom and when I came out I had a ticket on my car. At that point it hit me this was an excuse to speak with the police chief!!! So I went to the township building and spoke to the police chief and explained what happened. He waved the ticket and then I asked them if they needed cameras for the police station and township building. He said yes and then we did a presentation for the township. We won the bid and the rest was history. I was then able to use that relationship to open other doors with police departments. One Sunday I got a phone call from a person looking to have a subwoofer cable ran in their house. I had nothing better to do at the time and my wife was going grocery shopping so I said I would be right over. After I completed the job the customer told me he was the GM for ski resort. At that point I told him about how we specialized in IP cameras. About a year later I get a phone call from the GM and he would like me to come look at the system at the ski resort. We now have over 230 cameras at this customer and because of this relationship we now do two other ski resorts. I was able to leverage these projects to many of our other current projects. It takes ALOT of hardware and a little bit of luck and it can happen. -
CCTV Business: Marketing Ideas Discussion
thewireguys replied to dave1983's topic in General Digital Discussion
It's all about relationships and networking. I spend ZERO dollars in advertising and we have doubled revenue year over year for the last 6 years without signs of slowing down. -
I thinks would be huge if Avigilon and Axis would come out with analog/HDcvi/HDtvi encoders. The cost savings for upgrading to HD could be huge. But the current HDcvi/HDtvi are limited to small systems. Without encoders we can't use VMS platforms. FYI Milestone does support the HDCVI and HDTVI DVRs as encoders.

Until there are HDCVI/HDTVI onvif encoders I am not interested.

How to mount a cctv camera in a home stairwell. (READ)
thewireguys replied to chris63220's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
We have done installs like this for schools where we install Avigilon 2MP Micro dome cameras high on the wall where the pictures are hanging. Set the camera in corridor format and we get both sets of stairs and landings. -

If your worried about the mobile app then you really don't wanna use there http://www.ezviz7.com/ solution. Once the cameras call home they could have complete control of your camera and video -

How do I view my system off of a 4G or LTE network.
thewireguys replied to asm626's topic in Introductions
We work with Verizon and Sprint so I am not that familiar with AT&T's plans. With Verizon and Sprint you would need a M2M plan. As for the router I would recommend Peplink or Cradlepoint though we have had some issues with Cradlepoint so we switched to Peplink. Have a look at the MAX - BR1 http://www.peplink.com/products/max-cellular-router/pepwave-max-br-series-specs/#compare Long as you have a publicly routable IP address you can use any DVR/NVR or IP camera. -
How do I view my system off of a 4G or LTE network.
thewireguys replied to asm626's topic in Introductions
Not a problem. You need a Router that has cellular option. You can get cheap units that have USB ports which you would plug in a USB LTE stick or (best option) you could get an router with an embedded LTE modem. If a reliability is important to you I would strongly recommend the embedded LTE router option. USB LTE sticks come loose and break easy. You will need static IP address that is publicly routable and you will need to understand how much bandwidth you will be using or you can incur very large overage bills from your LTE provider. Also keep in mind antenna selection and placement is VERY important for quality and reliable service. Don't put your LTE modem in a metal box and expect good performance. -
Im with ssnapier...... not a fan of Geovision in any way.

The 3MP model looks like it would adequate coverage for the property. Few questions (again, pardon my newbie status): YES You need ACC to record and configure the analytics in the cameras. You can fire trigger outputs on the cameras to and use devices like this: http://www.elkproducts.com/siren_voice_drivers_and_recordable_modules.html Yes FYI here is a clip of how the analytics work: WrydyEPf2sc

You have to become a partner or perchase from partners. Avigilon does not sell though distribution in north america. Also I would recommend the new H3a cameras from Avigilon with the on camera analytics. You only need Raito's if you have third party cameras since everything is now done on camera with everything configured in ACC.

Your issue has nothing to do with FPS and everything to do with lighting, exposure and lensing. -
Need a ethernet over coax converter that does POE
thewireguys replied to cavcom's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I can tell you the Vigitron gear is rock solid. We took over a large mall with 1500ft coax runs and the Veracity units wouldn't work. Vigitron works running Avigilon's 2MP PTZ cameras with 802.11at on 1500ft coax. Also using them for some wireless links. 1000ft of coax to Vigitron to 48VDC to 18VDC converter to wireless AP. All powered from our POE switch. Again Veracity would not work.
