Probably Yet Another Question Regarding IP vs Analogue

Not necessarily true. It depends on the number of cameras, the resolution and framerate they run, the codec they use, and to a fair degree, the NVR software used. Some here have built NVRs using Exacq on Atom processors. you do not need quad core processors

Probably Yet Another Question Regarding IP vs Analogue

Yes you can run a Hybrid setup (IP and Analog) with video encoders (for analog camras) and IP HD/Megapixel cameras. Here are some comparison images from analog to MP cameras. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=17732&p=131201&hilit=upgrade#p131201

HD Camera not outputting to HDMI

Don't you love HDMI What happens if you plug the HDMI directly into the TV from the camera? Never used the Startech HDMI stuff but I think they are on the low end. I have used Gefen for HDMI over cat5 but it was a pain in the ass but it did finally work.
  13. PM me and I can send you a demo..... that server way overkill for 8 cameras..... I would use a atom based server to save on power but that will work fine.

Looking for video security for my off-grid cabin.

Keep in mind if you stream 24/7 the cell companies will shut you down. Even Sprint will do this with the unlimited data plan.
  15. Then how do you have the option from the factory for many different sized, up to a couple TB of HDD space? I wouldnt think that they would have just ONE 2tb drive in there, would they? hmm. that would make a huge difference if so. So, any advantages to having windows over linux? my current server says it has embedded linux, but you can really access any OS. it just boots right into the DVR menu, so it doesnt "seem" like a real computer with Linux or Windows on it at all Forgive my questions that might seems 'beginner-ish'. But i appreciate the help! Up 2TB drive is the max internal with ELS box. This is a full computer running Windows or Linux and yes you have access to the OS. But they way it is setup you can't change ANYTHING in the OS without admin or root access. But you do not access the OS for normal setup or use. Everything is configured from Exacq's client software.
  16. The ELS is h.264 with full d1 30FPS and desktop is not. Desktop is Windows or Linux and the ELS is Linux only. The ELS has the OS on a SSD drive and the desktop is harddrive. The ELS will use a lot less power. The Desktop comes with 8 IP licenses and the ELS does not. Thanks for that reply! So which one would you recommend for my application, and why? One more question: is there any software differences between the two, or is it mainly just hardware differences? for example, is this VMS software used on both, or does the software differ? http://www.exacq.com/downloads/exacqvision-brochure-0810.pdf also, what would be the benefit for me being able to have windows rather than linux on my DVR? thanks again for the help! Exacq software is the same for all of there products. I would get the ELS, (H.264 D1 30 FPS) and you can add IP cameras when you need them. With the desktop your only getting 4 analog and your paying for 8 IP licenses that your not using right away.
  17. i wouldnt replace the HDD that comes with it, i would just add a few more 500g HDD's. This is what I did with my current G4 DVR and worked fine. How come you recommend not doing it? Well with the Desktop version you might be able to add hard drives I think there is open SATA ports but I have never opened one up to look. ELS for one it is Linux and it is a whole different animal then Windows. Also I don't think there is any more room in the box or open SATA ports.
  19. I would not recommend replacing the HD yourself.

    identify this camera

Any idea of the manufacture? Click on image for full res.
  22. Well it depends on the situation. If you need 5MP then you get a 5MP and add IR. If you need 3MP to read a plate and you get the 3135/3130 the 1.3MP image will not have enough resolution to read the plate so you have to get the 3MP 3155 for day and nite. Also you are limited on lens with the dual imager. My recommendation is to oder the cameras and test for yourself.
