4ch 120fps standalone dvr with iPhone support recommendation
thewireguys replied to dopalgangr's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I like Axis encoders......... look at the Q4704 for h.264 or 241Q for mpeg-4. Then you can use Exacq's web 2.0 interface or the new Exacq Ipod/Ipad app. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETXqALdHbPE -

3G wireless cell card. What I mean is I would like the not have to be logged into Ubuntu (for security reasons) and still be able to remote into the machine with Teamviewer over the 3G network. This works with Windows, after I setup the NVR I log out, then when I remote into the box with Teamviewer I see the login screen. With Ubuntu if I logout it shuts down the 3G card and Teamviewer. I am running Ubuntu on a 1G VIA setup with a 1Gig of ram. Works fine for what I am doing but I work like to find out what services I can disable for best performance and reliability. I only need the network, 3G, teamviewer, NVR software to run everything else can go

I know this works with windows so any ideas on how to implement this with Ubuntu? Also have you tried XUbuntu? If so is really better then Ubuntu for low power machines? Thanks for the help

Sanyo's new HD cameras all have auto focus. I would recommend http://www.exacq.com for your NVR software. Arecont makes a great camera and the new Sanyo's are very nice. -

What PC to use as NVR

specs depend on your NVR software. Some need dual Xeons and some will run on Atoms. -

Do wireless IP cameras actually work?!? I DONT THINK SO!
thewireguys replied to billeh's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Wireless can work very well if designed properly. 16 wireless IP cameras streaming back to one access point is not gonna work. On 802.11G network you have 54Mb bandwidth but you only get half if that in the real world so your looking at 25Mb available. The cameras you are using can use up to 3Mb each so that is 48Mb total bandwidth you will need. So now you can see why this is not gonna work You need good wireless gear to make this work and it is not cheap. Cameras with built in wireless are normally useless with more then one or 2 cameras. One way you MIGHT get this to work MOST of the time would be to use 4 access points and group 4 cameras to 1 access point but there is a lot of setup that is involved and you need to do a site survey. Also keep in mind your using cheap cameras so expect cheap results. So to be so blunt. -

PC Based System
thewireguys replied to Termite007's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Wireguys, I'm in the process of building an Atom based dual core system and giving Exacq a run. Most of these small chassis' don't have much room for multiple drives. How do handle this with a small system? I'm assuming like with other NVR softwares we want to keep the OS and NVR software on it's own physical drive and put the recorded data on another. I'm thinking of using a solid state drive for the OS and software. How many cameras can you see this system operating with lets say 1.3MP's and maybe a 3MP or two? Thanks Small setups I only run 1HD to keep the cost down and most none enterprise DVRs only have one HD anyway. A 2TB HD can store alot of h.264 video. I have had a mix of 10 MP cameras running on a Atom without any problems. Exacq limits the EL box to 24IP cameras. If I know/think the customer will have more then 10 IP cameras I will upgrade to a dual core setup. -
