  1. Let me check I was trying to get a good image from the Basler then I was going to work on the Areconts. And the lens on the Basler is a Tamron 2.8-12 with a F1.4
  2. now for the money shots These are all default settings Basler with a 1/1.3 exposure setting and gain at 26db (This is what the auto setting came up with) There is a car going by Basler again ( exposure offset to -56 switched the auto day/night to night and i limited the gain to 6dband set it to "prioritize framerate" also I refocused the camera for night Arecont 3155DN (default) Arecont 3130DN (default)
  3. This camera is interesting and I will be honest and tell you this is the first CCD megapixel camera I have played with with auto iris. This is an image with the default factory settings. The camera tries to lower the exposure time to 1/1 and auto adjust the gain. This image the exposure time is 1/100 and gain is 0. But the image just doesn't look sharp and the colors are dull.
  4. Check the leaves near the top of the image. If this were a digicam, you could not give them away. Of course, it's a security cam and low light performance is far more important. I have one of the very first Canon D30 digital SLRs produced. The 3 MP images from that circa 2001 camera were incredible. Yes, I know that's comparing apples and turnips, but what a revolutionary camera that was. Best, Christopher I see but my point is comparing megapixel to analog. If you think the Arecont looks bad then what are your thoughts on the Basler?
  5. Where do you see purple in the Arecont? That is not the best lens I have for the Arecont but it is the only one I have so all cameras will have close to the same FOV
  6. Over 1.6km??? ashtech, there are a number of different options here... it really depends on what you're trying to do, what infrastructure you already have in place, and what you want to spend. For that distance, you could use fibre, or you could use an existing internet connection, or possibly active baluns. I was assuming he had a network infrastructure setup and he wanted to encode and decode the analog video.
  7. Are you looking for a IP encoder/decoder for analog cameras? Acti makes a set that should work for you. ACD-3100 decoder ACD-2100 encoder Alot of manufactures make them (Axis, Bosch, Vivotek) but the key is you have to use encoder/decoder from the same manufacture. Axis encoder will not work with a Vivotek decoder.

    Dvr companies still using mpeg4,why?

Interesting analogy The part Scorpion hasn't stated so clearly, is that H.264 requires substantial processing power compared to MPEG4... which either requires more powerful hardware, or a bunch of work-arounds to make the cheaper hardware handle it, which can create other problems. Indeed. When I asked about support for H.264 cameras (Arecont, specifically) on Vigil DVRs a few months back, one of Camacc's techs told me that their Aztech variation on MPEG4 could, in some instances, produce better compression with better quality than H.264, and that recompressing H.264 video with Aztech could even produce smaller files. I haven't tested these claims myself, but I trust the tech as someone who wasn't just trying to make me a sales pitch. Yes Areconts H.264 is very good but they use there own special sauce. And I also agree I will always talk to the techs before I talk to the sales guy.
  10. What cameras and compression are you using for this system?

    car camera system

You have your wish Mobotix has the perfect megapixel/DVR car solution. http://www.mobotix.com/eng_US/content/view/full/37540 3 megapixel imagers day/night built in storage (-22°F to +140°F) no moving parts trigger input/outputs Built in logic if you have cell card you can email on alarms VOIP have your car call you on an alarm and have a 2 voice conversation Press a button on your phone and turn the fuel pump off under $2000 for the whole solution When I have some time this is on my list to setup in my car
  13. Yea I want to get my hands on one.
  14. Yes, white light LED flood lights will work fine. Best, Christopher But is there a point of spending so much money on LED lighting? Does it give MUCH better video compared to ordinary lighting? The point is to save money with the LEDs. Less energy and no bulbs to change.
  15. Rory, Vivotek makes some outdoor day/night built cameras also. http://www.vivotek.com/products/network_cameras.php I haven't used any analog res cameras from Acti or Vivotek so I can't tell you how well they work.
  16. Did you use MJPEG or H.264 on Arecont? MJPEG looks of course pretty and better then H.264 Both. I was commenting on the camera's physical appearance, not the picture quality. Arecont's design reminds me of an AK47....... Very simple design and cheap but effetive. Also the H.264 and MJpeg qualty are the same if setup correctly. So far the Areont has a better image, frame rates and the motion detection is easier to setup. But like I said I don't have a MP lens for it yet.

    Distance issue

Rory the Ubiquiti outdoor access points go for under $100 retail. "150+ Mbps real outdoor throughput and up to 15km+ range. Featuring 2x2 MIMO technology, the new NanoStation links significantly faster and farther than ever before."
  19. Just opened the box and this 1.3DN camera is very small. Fits in the palm of your hang without a lens on. This the smallest IP camera I have seen, but they don't make matching small housing yet so it defeats the purpose if you have to put it in a housing (they said they are working on this). It is built like a tank with a all metal housing and has some weight to it. This has a 1/3" Sony EXview HAD progressive scan RGB CCD sensor with a IR cut filter and auto iris with a max res of 1280 by 960. Max frame rates depends on the the compression MJPEG = 11 MPEG-4 =9 and H.264 =7. (this is what is in the manual but they have different specs on there site.) Web setup is very easy and clean. Motion detection works like Milestone and OnSSI. Works with IE and Firefox. I don't have any MP auto iris lens laying around so my first impressions of the images aren't that great with analog res lens. I did put on a 2/3 Computar manual MP lens that I have and the pic looked much better. That's it for now
  20. You should look into "seal tight" flexible conduit.
