Tools needed to get started
thewireguys replied to blake's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I use Surefire for my flashlights..... Not cheap but the best. http://www.surefire.com/E1B-Backup Yes! A lot of co-workers make fun of me for spending $100 plus on a flashlight (have 3) but if you use something 30 plus times a day, every day it's hard for me to put a price on it. They work every time and I'll put my life on it (actually have many times). Also, I picked up this beauty from Lowes with a 20% off coupon (from USPS relocation envelope). http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=109739-353-PS40-2A I LOVE this thing. It's extremely small yet powerful, fast, has lights, and will drive any screw into almost anything. Perfect for CCTV and hours of our inevitable ladder work. I had 4 but I lost 2 Surefire flashlights are the best tool period. -

ACTi ACM-7411 Power Question
thewireguys replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
From what I was told and understand if your powered with POE and it gets cold enough to turn on the extra heater the camera will still work but the heater will not turn on. I thought there was 2 different power supply's one for the camera and small heater then a different power supply for the extra heater. But now I am not sure what will happen with the camera when it gets cold enough for the extra heater. Does the camera call for more power from the POE switch and if it can't provide it what does it do? a) keep running with out extra heater b) shut the whole camera down because there isn't enough power from the switch I trust ACTIs manual but they don't say what happens when this scenario happens. Another reason why I don't trust a thing a manufacture says until I prove it. I am not gonna be a happy camper if I have to climb up some poles to add a second power supply to the camera if it shuts off. -

ACTi ACM-7411 Power Question
thewireguys replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
From what I am getting from Ando's posts he is saying the camera's heater and blower can be powered from a POE switch, but it clearly says in the manual you need 12dv to power the heater/blower in low temps and I have talked to Dave A at Acti and he said use the 12dc. The ones that I have installed I just use POE but I don't need the extended temp range. -
ACTi ACM-7411 Power Question

Ando welcome to the forum you will be a big help for us!! I issue is the window based motion detection that Acit, Axis and others use. It works fine in controlled lighting conditions but when you setup the camera for outdoors it can be difficult to setup for day and night modes. You may get the camera setup to ignore the image noise in B/W mode but then you might miss triggers in the day time. Your event logic (not the only company.... see Mobotix) will help but it will not be as easy as Areconts motion detection. I find with your day/night cameras I have to make 2 trips to my customers to get the motion working correctly. Once doring the install (day time) then I come back at night and adjust it. If you have any tips or tricks for setting up the motion detection for outdoors I am all ears . Other wise ACTI make a great cost effective MP camera. -

ACTi ACM-7411 Power Question
thewireguys replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I would recommend the Arecont 1.3 for outdoor use...... Much better motion detection. -
What happens when you have 2 or more moving objects in the FOV? Doesn't would out so well. Motion tracking can only work well in certain situations like indoors and no movement ...... don't even think about using it outdoor unless you are using analytics.

For Megapixel look at Areconts 3130/3135 Mobotix M12

Exacq has addressed that on there latest update.... also on there boxes it loads very fast. Infact using my Atom box for a server and a different client machine I can load a full day of video from a 3MP Arecont camera in a couple if seconds.

What about if you disconnected the car battery then did the sweep? If the device is running on battery would it be easier to pick up with without the car giving off RF? -
ACTi ACM-7411 Power Question

You need the 12vdc power supply for extended temp ranges. Your distributor is correct. I know from installing them and talking to Dave at Acti. and it is also on the spec sheet and in the manual "-30 ºC ~ 50 ºC (-22 ºF ~ 122 ºF) for DC 12 V; -5 ºC ~ 50 ºC (7 ºF ~ 122 ºF) for PoE" 3.4w(DC 12V) w/0 Heater & Fan 13.2 (DC 12V) w/heater ON & Fan ON 4.4w (Poe) w/0 heater & fan
