Avigilon Andriod app
thewireguys replied to cglaeser's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
With the latest update Avigilon is basically forcing you use https for the mobile Gateway and HTLM5 web interface. A back up plan is the change port 80 or whatever port you are currently using to the https port. This way you don't have to change any firewall settings. I also recommend you send feedback to feedback@avigilon.com -

RAID 5 has worked for our needs but RAID 6 is how we setup our larger servers and iSCSI storage units. -

Near-Line SAS vs. SATA Drives For Video Mgmt Server

That's strange because Avigilon sets all their servers up in RAID 5 And I have not had any problems with with the RAID 5 setups for video. -

No never used them and never will. Managed POE switches give you all the options that you need. -

Wonder which VMS platforms support the advanced features. All the extra features are useless if the VMS can take advantage of them. -
New Acti 4K - 12MP surveillance cameras - 4K at 24FPS
thewireguys replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'll let you know when it's out. I checked with Acti today and they peed on my cornflakes. They told me that the Acti 4K's in the beginning of this thread won't be out until Dec or so. So, Axis is going to beat them to the punch because the Axis one is due out in the next 30 to 90 days. Like with Intel and other CPU \ GPU manufacturers, do companies ever send you early samples to review? Or do you have to wait until the release date? I have had no problem with that video either. I am watching it on a Seiki 39" 4K TV and it looks amazing. I can't wait to get my hands on one of the new 24-30 fps 4K cameras. I guess it's a good time to upgrade NVR's and PC's as we wait for the cameras to arrive very soon. Is Axis going to get the first one out, or has someone already released one already? (Besides like Avigilon who probably has one already...maybe?). I keep reading about the poor low lighting issue as well. Is it really that bad? I mean, if I have a really good external IR illuminator covering a small area, say, 40 x 40 feet near the house and point one of the new 4K cams at it, is it going to be super dark? I would like to see some early examples of this poor lighting everyone is talking about. Even the Acti rep told me that as well. Avigilon has there new h.24 PRO cameras which are 8,12, and 16 MP. They have Avigilon's Lightcatcher capability and are very good in low light. Axis's camera is not going to be good in low light.... I think the minimum lux spec is either 2 or 4 lux. -
wireless transmission over 3g Dongle
thewireguys replied to swastiknath's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
We do this all the time and we are Verizon M2M partners. You are correct you will need to pay a one time fee of $500 for the account setup at Verizon if you want a publicly routable static IP address. If you don't what to pay the $500 fee you will not be able to connect to your DVR without setting up a VPN. Sprint also has static IP addresses on their LTE network and I think they are still charging a $5 per month fee for the static IP -

I know. Pretty amazing. I wonder if anyone can find the release dates and prices. But this is ACTI so I don't have my hopes up. From my experience ACTI has been flakey and sub par image quality. -

IP cam amount of gigabytes in a 24 hour period
thewireguys replied to trauts14's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
^^^ Curious why you think a NVR solution would have anything to do with the cameras compression? Also 6-7 FPS is more then enough FPS for most situations unless you personally just want smoother video. -
Make sure you configure your network to support multicast streaming.

What is our best option?
thewireguys replied to mytheory.'s topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Dahua's HDCVI is a interesting option but keep in mind it is a proprietary technology with limited camera choices. Buy the equipment now and who knows what options (if any) will be available next year. Also you can't purchase Dahua branded products in the US. You would have to go with one of the many rebranding resellers.
