Acti Megapixel Cameras
thewireguys replied to bpzle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Just the light level in the room Why compare them to analog cameras? Megapixel will have better day time images and analog will have a better night images. Been done already ...but it's outside Because I thought other users may benefit from seeing actual examples. As you can probably tell, I'm not that experienced and I gain from seeing actual examples. You seem fairly experienced and have certainly been there-done that but other users may not be so fortunate...I didn't say I was doing it for your just your benefit. Then their might be a problem with the camera. Does it happen all day? "Daytime images are what I would expect for a lower-end mp cam. I do think the lens that ships with them is fairly crappy...again, to be expected for the price." I was commenting on this statement you made. What other Megapixel cameras are you basing this off of. Most of the time guys that have never seen megapixel cameras go this looks like **** becuase the only thing they can compare it to is HDTV and digital cameras. -

Acti Megapixel Cameras

The Acti cameras use photocells to change from day to night. Adjust your light level higher or lower and this should stop. What Megapixel cameras are you comparing them to? What exposure settings are you using? thanks TWG- I'll give that a shot tonight to see if it helps. When you say "light level"..can you provide more details? "What Megapixel cameras are you comparing them to?" I said that I would be comparing them to analog...dont' know of any analog megapixel cameras I'm on-site at a client's at the moment...I'll check the exposure settings tonight when I get back to the office and let you know. Light level = Lux level With ACTI you can't change the value when the camera will change from B/W to color.... You can do this with Arecont and Mobotix What other megapixel cameras have you had experience with? was the question I was asking -

Keep in mind they recommend you pick a illuminator rating 3 times the distance of the objects you want to illuminate. So if you want to light up something 50m then you need a illuminator rated for 150m.

Mobotix cameras with images
thewireguys replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I attended Mobotix training this week and I must say I am very impressed. The trainer Jens was top notch and answered every question we had. Unfortunately we ran out of time and didn't get into the VOIP and MxControlcenter but it was the basic course. I do plain on attending the advanced course so we can customize control center for our customers. Overall a top notch product from a top notch company. -
IP PTZ Cameras
thewireguys replied to Termite007's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Except that Axis is bandwidth hungry and does not support a remote stream at CIF with a lower frame rate and 4CIF 25ips for on site recording at the same time. Check out the IndigoVision 9000 PTZ, which can do this. I guess you haven't seen the AXIS Q6032-E -

QNAP VioStor Opinions?
thewireguys replied to ini's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
TWG- Respectfully, where do you see that the model in question doesn't support H.264? All of the documentation I'm finding says it will. Plus it does motion dection recording which, in my situation, will practically double the amt of days I can record. Can't figure out why the NUUO mini's don't offer that option...they seem like sweet little NVR's otherwise. The Mini doesn't have on board motion detection but it supports camera based motion detection which every IP camera has so this isn't a big deal. Also most cameras have privacy masking so this is also not a big deal. As for the h.264 the spec sheet that I looked at didn't have h.264 on it but you are correct it does support h.264. My only complaint with the NUUO is the bandwidth limitation but that is because on the lack of processing power. QNAP has more powerful processors that's why they can do more. One thing I did notice with QNAP you have to port forward all cameras for remote viewing which can be a pain in the a## and a BIG security risk. With the NUUO mini you only have to port forward the Mini not the cameras which makes setup a lot easier and secure. http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_application.asp?p_id=121 How does QNAP do there camera licensing? Does the price of the unit include the licenses or are they extra? I will diffidently look into there product more but the port forwarding will be a big issue for me. TWG- May I trouble you to tell me where the motion det settings are on the 1231? I'm looking at web configurator and don't see it anywhere. Thanks so much for your help!!! Video Adjust -
Are wireless cameras reliable?
thewireguys replied to metapts's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Great find hardwired!!!! Wireless will work but don't count on it with consumer grade linksys access points. YOU MUST DO SITE SURVEYS and look into Engenius and Ubiquiti for your wireless solution. In my experience if you can get a wire there it is cheaper and more reliable to run the wire. If you have to trench a parking lot and you have LOS, go wireless. -
Incompatible Cat-5e with Balun?
thewireguys replied to theengine's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I wanna know where you shop that Cat6 is the same price as Cat5e, because everywhere around here, Cat6 carries a pretty hefty premium. Example: one retailer has 1000' boxes of FT4 Cat5e at $96 while 1000' of FT4 Cat6 is $230. Plus all connectors and patch panels are more money. -
Is arecont 5MP camera is compatible with DM joystick
thewireguys replied to nasir's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
It will depend on the NVR software you are using. -
I second the Exacq recommendation.... with there setup you will be able to add megapixel cameras in the future and you don't have to worry about software compatibility. They work with Windows, Linux, Mac.

I think you found your camera with the Toshiba IK-WB11A..... I think Panasonic makes some outdoor wireless cameras but they don't have IR. Do you have power at the camera locations? As soon as you go day/night your cost goes up and I have not seen a outdoor ready IP camera with wifi..... Most wifi cameras are box/cubes that require housings to go outdoors and your adding more cost. If you already have power at the location you can make any IP camera wifi with an access point and if you don't have power at that location then I would run a cat5 when you install the power. If you don't feel comfortable running wires please hire a professional to install the system. Vivotek has wifi day/night camaeras but they need a housing and IR http://www.vivotek.com/products/network_cameras.php Acti has outdoor cameras but no wifi http://www.acti.com/product/category/IP_Bullet_Camera Your gonna spend a minimum $500 per camera for everything

Need some help.... I would like to setup a SMTP server for my Exacq servers and IP camera but I have little knowledge about them. I have tried all of my SMTP email accounts and I can't get them to work. I think the problem lies with the fact Exacq does not support SSl or TLS connections and my email accounts do. I would like to set this up for are demo servers and have a solution for my customers. Is there one email server that I could use for all my installs or is there a SMTP relay that I could install on each NVR. Looking for advice please.

Thanks Soundy!! So I could get one plan and used it for all of my customers and charge them a fee for this service?

QNAP VioStor Opinions?
thewireguys replied to ini's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'm planning on using ACM-3411's and either 1231 or 5611 and an enclosure. They will work fine..... But ACTI does not support masking. I have a couple of el 'cheapo analog cameras that don't support masking either but my Hikvision 8000 Series DVR does so I am able to do so. Is it not the same with NVR's? In re: the motion detection: so I can set the cams to only record on motion even if the NVR doesn't support it? I'm sorry for asking such entry-level questions.... Have you ever used a IP camera? They are little Linux boxes so they are alot more then a camera. Cheep IP cameras like ACTI will stream video and have on board motion detection, AXIS adds event logic so say on motion even email images or upload to FTP server. Mobotix can do all of this plus they have a built in NVR so you don't have to have a NVR. Why do you what to use IP cameras?
