  1. I'm planning on using ACM-3411's and either 1231 or 5611 and an enclosure. They will work fine..... But ACTI does not support masking.
  2. TWG- Respectfully, where do you see that the model in question doesn't support H.264? All of the documentation I'm finding says it will. Plus it does motion dection recording which, in my situation, will practically double the amt of days I can record. Can't figure out why the NUUO mini's don't offer that option...they seem like sweet little NVR's otherwise. The Mini doesn't have on board motion detection but it supports camera based motion detection which every IP camera has so this isn't a big deal. Also most cameras have privacy masking so this is also not a big deal. As for the h.264 the spec sheet that I looked at didn't have h.264 on it but you are correct it does support h.264. My only complaint with the NUUO is the bandwidth limitation but that is because on the lack of processing power. QNAP has more powerful processors that's why they can do more. One thing I did notice with QNAP you have to port forward all cameras for remote viewing which can be a pain in the a## and a BIG security risk. With the NUUO mini you only have to port forward the Mini not the cameras which makes setup a lot easier and secure. http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_application.asp?p_id=121 How does QNAP do there camera licensing? Does the price of the unit include the licenses or are they extra? I will diffidently look into there product more but the port forwarding will be a big issue for me. I'm very thankful you pointed out the port forwarding of each camera. That will certainly factor in. I don't have a problem with port forwarding but good gosh!! So you're saying that as long as the camera supports motion det. I can only record on motion with the Mini? That's really the biggest selling point for me with these two. thanks a ton! What cameras to you plan on using

  4. IPconfigure now has LPR.... They have a great product... But I have never used there LPR software. http://www.ipconfigure.com/p_licenseplate.html
  5. U can use this thread...... use http://imageshack.us/ to host the images
  6. Pm sent. I'd love to see any demos/screenshots you'd care to share. please start a thread "Vivotek ST7501 images" and post them there. You can you imageshack ti host the images
  7. AXIS is in a different price league. You will pay 2 to 3 times as much for a camera.
  8. ACti does not have 50/60 and florescent modes.... Think you have them confused with AXIS ACti has indoor/outdoor White Balance Modes and only 5 fixed Maximum Auto Shutter Speed settings. If your worried about low light performance go with the 3511.... if you want color only go with the 4201. If you are a dealer you can call ACTi and order demo cameras to test for your self

Rely on DVR for Alarm Motion Detection?

I fully respect the quality and reliability level of a system like this. thewireguys touched on the constant light levels and since the thermal cameras don't use light you're both saying the same thing. I guess if an installer put in artificial light and wrote more than one alogarithm for the software detection of the camera it might work in a simliar way as a thermal system. But nowhere near as well. Thanks a lot for all your help. CK Actually, the main factor in our system's reliability is the video analytics. Standard motion detection just looks for short-term (within a couple seconds) changes in the image - shadows moving with the sun and lighting changes from day to night won't trigger it, it's just sampling and comparing pixels for variations within a span of maybe 10-100ms. What the analytics does, is look for SPECIFIC movements. For example, "tripwire" is a common, very basic detection type for most kinds of analytics: watch for an object crossing a line that the user defines. This is often refined by watching for movement in a specific direction, or crossing one line and then another. The system can also be programmed to recognize types of objects based on their size - say, to differentiate between a person, a car, or an animal. You can then combine these to, for example, trigger an alarm if a person or car crosses a fenceline, but not if an animal does it. Or you could have to trigger if a car enters a fenced area, but not if it's leaving the area, and not if a person enters or exits. A lot of that ability has to be defined by the user: for example, you'll draw boxes on an image to show the system what size a person is, what size a car is, etc. Doing this at the "front" and "back" of the scene will let it know the perspective it's dealing with, so it can interpolate the sizes of those objects at points in between. It can take a good deal of time to fully set up the system for a detailed level of "intelligence". Pixel based motion detection is very basic. With most Cameras/DVRs you you set it up by selecting a part of the image and then you set the percentage of pixels that have to change to trigger the event. It doesn't care what changed the pixels so the reliability is based of the constant lighting levels. You can set it up perfectly for day time then you check it at night all the noise in the image will trigger then event. To get it setup properly at night you tweak the settings to work properly and you then miss some events during the day which can lead to unhappy customers. ipConfigure does there motion detection differently they setup a tic-tac-toe grid of trip wires..... They have the best non-analytic motion detection I have seen. But Analytics are where its at once the system is setup properly it is a very powerful security system. Camera's need to be installed at proper angles and locations then as Soundy described you have to setup the Analytic your running.

I am interested to see the frame rates you get.

Cameras are in yellow on the image and the software is ExacqVison. Keep in mind these cameras are Mjpeg only.

Rely on DVR for Alarm Motion Detection?

Well the reliability of the camera based motion detection will only be good if you have constant light levels..... other wise you will have false alarms. If you only want the system to record when there is a person there I would use PIR's they are a lot more reliable. You could tie the PIRs into the DVR and alarm panel and have a great system.

At night? Best, Christopher No it's a dual sensor camera that is why it is so good it night but if you want h.264 all of Areconts **05 line are H.264 up to 5 megapixel..... But if I need good low light I am using 3130/3135

They decided to use the 3 megapixels of the sensor to significantly increase the dynamic range of the 1.3 megapixel H.264 video stream, but setting aside whether that actually produces better security or not, what company builds a 3 megapixel H.264 decoder and 3 megapixel monitor and how much do they cost, and most important, what is the market size for 3 megapixel H.264 video streams? While most companies are transitioning from CIF, 4CIF, and NTSC, you expect companies to address a 3 megapixel H.264 market? Will the Arecont 3135 support 3 megapixel H.264? Best, Christopher Will the Arecont 3135 support 3 megapixel H.264? yup

I don't understand your preferences for a security camera. You consistently berate cameras that don't support H.264 while at the same time favoring the 3130. Why? Best, Christopher "You consistently berate cameras that don't support H.264" I think your over exacturating here. I think this camera has a good image and handles back lighting very well. But why would the only support H.264 up to 1.3MP for $1000.00? I think that they need to either upgrade the processor so the camera can do h.264 at full res or they need to drop the price. Look at the ACTi TCM-5311 why would I pay hundreds of $ more for the Panasonic? For your situation this is fine if your just FTPing images but for professional installs I think there is better options for camera selection. I recommend the 3130 because it has the best low light performance I have seen from a MP camera and once the 3135 comes out I will recommend that once the I see the images. Give me the best images and compression, the NVR software can handle everything else and if I need all of the bells and whistles I would go with Mobotix.

pin hole camera battery doesn't last long

Do know what camera they use? I would like to get my hands on a small camera like that.

So, by your logic, the 3130/M12 are 0 megapixel cameras, because neither has H.264, is that correct? Best, Christopher No because the 3130/M12 are 1.3MP at night which as you know will be significantly smaller file size then a 3 MP day/night image.
