    Panasonic WV-NP502 images

It's a 3 megapixel sensor capable of producing 3 megapixel jpeg images. To create the video stream, neighboring pixels are combined to increase the dynamic range, resulting in a maximum 1.3 megapixel H.264 stream. That is why this camera could have great potential. If the extended dynamic range of this sensor works as well as advertised, the results could be impressive, particularly for scenes with uneven lighting. Best, Christopher I understand I was referring to the Exacq software. I was able to get the 3MP image but to me this is only a 1.3MP camera becuase it can't support h.264 at 3MP. So far Mobotix still has a better daytime image and I will bet the 3130/M12 will have a better night image becuase of the dedicated sensor. And the Mobotix camera will be around the same price if you have to put it in a housing plus no moving parts to fall. Also I was reading up on IPvideomarket and they where not impressed with this camera.

    Cat5E and baluns

With Cat5 you can upgrade to megapixel cameras in the future. And don't use cheap baluns.

    Panasonic WV-NP502 images

Just for fun open any mega pix in full res on your own comp. let me know plz how do u like it ? But I think from what I see here other cams I've used so far do better. Certainly less curvaceous. Night time will sing the praises of this one probably. 3 MP would make all the difference most likely too. Scares me that the choice of lens is limited to what I see here...unless I'm mistaken about that. All right I'll shut up now.. I posted a 3 MP image

I think this camera handles back lighting very well.

Well they have 8 servers setup with cameras from Acti, Axis, Arecont, Sony, Panasonic, Stardot plus various analog cameras. It's nice so you can see that the cameras work with the software but most of them look like they just plugged them in right out of the box.

    Arecont/Win2k??

Well from all the demos I have seen Arecont has a better image. I hope to have IQI stop by tomorrow for some more demos to see if the image has improved

    Arecont/Win2k??

When I was at training Arecont admitted to these problems and said they have since been rectified. Which ones? The bad domes? The "missing" yaw adjustments? The mis-installed screws? The more I read, the more concerned I get about their QA/QC - what other problems can I expect to run across with these things? They're already installing software I don't want, without even asking permission... wonder what's next?? My coworker has a few more rants about these things after today... not the least of which is the use of stainless-steel bolts to mount them to their pendants - when you're supporting a camera 40' off the ground and trying to balance the mounting screws on your driver, it would be really nice if they would actually hold to a magnet. All manufacturers who use stainless or other non-magnetic screws for this sort of INTERNAL location should be lined up and shot. BTW, I'm interested in others' experiences with those ferrite beads as well - we've been putting them on, JUST IN CASE, but man, what a PITA to cram them inside the housings! Never needed them on any other IP cams, so I'm wondering what the deal is with these? Man you complain alot The lens and the domes..... I haven't had any of the other problems your talking about.

    Wireless solutions

That was what I meant, as well. Wi-Fi built-in cameras tend to be fairly low quality, and the camera location may not be where you need the antenna to be for best performance. Also, you can often link several cameras at a remote location using one link, providing a performance and cost savings there... Wireguys and I both seem to have found great performance, and often even better pricing, from wireless products designed for wireless internet service providers (Ubiquiti, EnGenius, Mikrotik, Etc.) than from anything marketed specifically to the CCTV market. BTW, Ubiquiti just released a line of "N" speed gear that should be great for our industry, the "N" standard is optimized for multiple streams, at up to 300Mbps throughput. I have one install going in with it right now, and it's looking good so far... Ubiquiti and EnGenius make Great products at a very good price.
  13. I tried to upload an image from my computer, but the CCTV forum failed to upload the image. Is there a size limit? Best, Christopher use www.imageshack.com

    watching analog cctv with pda

Exacq works for Iphone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile. Plus Apple, Linux and Windows. Check out Exacq's line of hybrid DVRs

    Arecont/Win2k??

I watched it myself and I am not that impressed. For what you are using it for it will be fine but only "JPEG only" at 3 megapixel mode isn't gonna work for us. The Arecont 3130/3135 will give you higher fame rates with H.264 compression.

    Wireless solutions

Don't use cameras with built in wifi!!!! You can use any IP camera you like then connect it with the best access point you can afford. This setup give you a lot more options.

    Arecont/Win2k??

What is the cost to end users? Best, Christopher looks like $1,415 plus lenses and housing for outdoor use. But I could see this camera selling for around $1000.00

    Arecont/Win2k??

My distributor said 9/22 for the WV-NP502. I am also talking to Axis to see if I can get a demo of the P3344.

    Arecont/Win2k??

For cameras that support advanced motion detection, this may not be a problem. My application is a good example. There is relatively little motion on my culdesac on a typical day. Mail delivery, paper delivery, neighbor walking a dog, etc. On the rare occasions there is motion, I want exceptionally good images. The average load is just a few hundred images per day per camera. Best, Christopher If this camera does pixel based motion detection your going to have a lot of false positives when the camera is outdoors. I don't know if you tried any cameras yet for this solution but any change in lighting level will trip the motion window. Clouds, rain, snow, trees, shadows, leaves will all trigger pixel based motion detection. Then once you get it up for day time your settings don't work at night. From all of the cameras I have tested Arecont is very good but you will get false positives and Mobotix is the best because of the built in logic.

These are interesting specs on the Panasonic WV-NP502 -Up to 30 fps full frame transmission at 1,280 x 960 image size (1.3 Megapixel mode) -Up to 3 Megapixel (2,048 x 1,536) JPEG stream (3 Megapixel mode, JPEG only) -High sensitivity with Day/Night function: 1.0 lux (Color), 0.08 lux (B/W) at F1.4 (1.3Megapixelmode) it can only do mjpeg @ 3 megapixel res not good for storage or bandwidth
  22. I must agree with Soundy and cglaeser. I like to refer to this as the CSI effect. Your budget will get your situational awareness but no detail unless you install many cameras. The budget range to do what you want is going to be between 500-$1000 per camera with with motion lights.
