IP camera Software
thewireguys replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Exacq does not require you to pay the yearly software upgrade fee not a maintenance fee. It's up to you if you what or need the latest features. -

No BLC with Acti...... Try Arecont -
I need I know if WDR camera will get me a better image. The customer wants to know what people are carrying out of his plant and have facial recognition. So I have 2 options: One megapixel camera so he can have a overall shot and be able to zoom in on the doors. Two at least 3 cameras 2 of which are zoomed in on the door on the left and the walk way between the buildings on the right then one camera for a wide shot. To further complicate things this has to be done wirelessly because the NVR will be located 3 buildings away. I know there is going to be bandwidth issues with the megapixel camera so I am trying to convince my customer to let me run a fiber or cat5 between the buildings but it will not be easy or cheap. I am thinking about using Panasonic WV-CP484s and video servers for the WDR and a Arecont 3130 for megapixel camera. I really don't think the Arecont is going to give me a good image with the lighting conditions you see in the image. So I unless any one has a better idea I think the 3 Panasonics are the way to go.

Which lens for ACti 1/3 cmos sensor
thewireguys replied to dopalgangr's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Find me a a megapixel camera manufacture that would recommend/support this and I will send you $1 . The whole idea behind megapixel cameras is better image quality so after spending extra money on a megapixel why would you save a couple of bucks on the lens which is the weakest link in a megapixel camera? Buy the best lens you can afford. -
IP camera Software

To be clear on the Mobotix you have to use there cameras but they do have limited support for encoders and PTZ cameras. http://www.mobotix.com/eng_US/content/view/full/1723 -
IP camera Software
thewireguys replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What software are you talking about? We sell Exacq at $150 per camera with a optional $25 yearly software upgrade fee per camera. So if you sell a 4 camera system that's $600. I don't think that is so bad. I don't think software company's that sell free software or server only license are going to be around for long or have good support for new cameras and features. If you find some software where that meets your needs let me know so I can test it. -
Which lens for ACti 1/3 cmos sensor
thewireguys replied to dopalgangr's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Sure it will... it will just give a more distorted view. I guess i should have gone into more detail on why it would not use a 1/3 lens on a 1/2 imager. I've done it before, when testing an IQ701 when all I had handy was a 1/3" lens. Actually, at longer focal lengths, there was no noticeable difference. At wider views, though, the image became "rounded off", because the lens projects an area smaller than the sensor. Actually, I didn't get to test it, but I suspect adding a C/CS adapter to space the lens out a bit might at least partially compensate for this phenomenon... Fine for testing but I would not sell it to a customer. -

Which lens for ACti 1/3 cmos sensor
thewireguys replied to dopalgangr's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You can can use 1/2 lens you will not have a problem. If your camera is auto-iris then you need a 1/2 lens with auto-iris. If your camera is manual iris then you can us a 1/2 lens with a manual iris. Do not put a auto-iris lens on a manual iris camera you will only get a black image. -

Which lens for ACti 1/3 cmos sensor
thewireguys replied to dopalgangr's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yes a lens for a 1/2 sensor will work on a 1/3 sensor and you will have a better image. But a lens for a 1/3 sensor will not work on a 1/2 sensor. -

Is "cheap security" an oxymoron?
thewireguys replied to DoorMan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Just got a 4201 one. IMPRESSIVE. I am not exactly sure what 'bells and whistles' means. From what I understand, @ ~ 1MP my options also include: -CCD (ACTi) -1/2" cmos sensors (Arecont) -Better Lenses, DC Iris etc. (Some Arecont) -H.264 streaming (Arecont, ACTi [cheaper]) -Different form factor "box" and "dome" (Arecont, ACTi [cheaper]) I feel in my application (well lit indoor) none of these features are really important to me, so would you consider the picture quality of a comparable arecont camera to be the same then? It seems like you pay a large premium over the 4201 to get these features (over twice the cost) Arecont has a better image, better video motion detection, and better compression but at a cost the ACTi. Also Arecont is way better in low light. What I mean by bells and whistles is comepare ACTi/Arecont to Axis//Mobotix. Higher frame rates, tamper alarms, multiple trigger in/outs, 2-way audio with VOIP support, Multiple streams at different frame rates and quality, Build in storage, multiple users, better security, remote zoom and focus, customizable web interfaces, built-in logic, ability to send email and upload to FTP servers, the ability for the cameras to communicate with each out without any other software. I could go on and on but you get the idea. Acti and Arecont are security cameras where Axis/Mobotix are more of a integrated security system -
Megapixel IP camera suggestions

What's PPF? Pixels Per Foot -
Well Mobotix cameras can do what he wants. The cameras have a build in PIR and MIC with a dB meter. You could use logic to only trigger alarm when both of them are tripped at the same time. This would minimize false alarms do to ambient noise. Also the cameras can call cell phones and so your customer could have a 2-way conversation with the a-hole on the other end. All of these features are build in the camera so no servers to run.

IP camera Software
thewireguys replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I don't know if any besides the software buy the manufacturer. From the software I have seen Mobotix is the only one that can incorporate 3 party cameras. So you looking for free software and/or only software with a server license key? -

Megapixel IP camera suggestions
thewireguys replied to bpzle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
For license plate recognition you need 45PPF with Arecont cameras. So with a required pixel density of 45 a 5 megapixel Arecont camera will give you a horizontal field of view of 58ft. So I agree with Megapixel Man (6) AV5105DN's should do the trick. It doesn't matter what lens you have on the camera your FOV of 58ft will not change. What does change with different lens is your distance to pixel density. Pick your camera first, lens last. -

thewireguys replied to DoorMan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
For the money Acti is a great camera..... $299 for a 1.3megapixel camera with POE and audio. I recommend you order a ACTI camera and see for yourself. If you need a camera without all the bells and whistles definitely check out ACTI. -
