should I use IP cameras?

Why spend the money for analog cctv cable when you can only use it for analog cameras. Me and my customers would rather put that money into a better network that will be more useful. -

You just keep installing analog cameras I will take all of the IP camera installs. -

With NVRs it is very easy to add a more powerful processor, more memory, and/or more harddrives. What happens if you have a 16 channel DVR that is full and you want to add one more camera? This is something that is very easy and much cheaper with a NVR. Everybody talks about bandwith issues but if you design your network properly and use managed switches you will not have issues. -
I miss my Blackberry. I think the Iphone is going back and im getting the BB BOLD. The Iphone is a toy and the Blackberry is for business.

Do you know why that is? Vivotek claims 3G support. The Vivotek Camera I have 6111 only supports IE nothing else. Im going to be that is why.

Ok I will go first. I found this one but I haven't tried it yet. http://iphoneapplicationlist.com/2008/01/25/mobiscope-home-soho-surveillance/ Also I have no problem viewing AXIS cameras on the Iphone. Vivotek will not work.

You can only upload images no video. You can up load to Email, FTP, and HTTP. If you want video use say Axis Camera Station and setup motion detection that camera will only send info when there is motion. I opened a Gmail (just for the camera) account and I have a camera upload images to that account so I can see them on my cell iphone.

Poe In > Power + Coax Out? Any such animal?
thewireguys replied to ipcs's topic in General Digital Discussion
Here is a video server that is powered with POE, has power out for the camera, and analog camera input. Axis 247s I have used them and they work very well. -
IP CCTV newbie! Some general home-user questions!
thewireguys replied to TonyC32's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The Axis 212ptz is for indoor use. The correct Axis product for you would be the Axis 225FD. It is a outdoor day/night dome with POE but if does require 12DC for the heater/blower. If you have to run a Cat5 cable to the camera location there shouldn't be a problem running a 2wire for power also. Axis cameras come with 1 free recording license for 1 camera only. You can also check out Vivotek 6111. Cheaper then the Axis but image quality is not as good. -

weird experience CAT5E
thewireguys replied to si_kungs's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
This is the tester I use to certify my network runs. It will tell you if anything is wrong with pairs. I normally use IP cameras but when I use cat5 for anything else I test them with this. http://www.jdsu.com/product-literature/Validator_Ethernet_speed_certifier_overview.pdf -

thewireguys replied to si_kungs's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
What tool did you use to certify the runs? Mine tells me the length of each pair to the foot. So you are using passive baluns for the video? Who makes them? -

Did you certify the runs? That will tell you what is wrong. -

I looks like the ssc-14web has 4 BNC outputs and 8 camera inputs. So you can only view 4 cameras at a time. I don't know if you can change the camera views from a trigger input. So you will need a 4 channel video encoder like the Axis 240Q or 241Q. If you want to record the video you will need NVR software with a 4 camera license. Do you plan to have the NVR on the LAN or at a remote location over the WAN? I recommend Axis products because of the quality, support and they are easy to setup.

Coax to Fiber optic converter
thewireguys replied to sbbamafan's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
If your going to use IP cameras you could use something like this Zyxel.com Its a 8 port gigabit switch with 1 SFP port. It also has full POE for the cameras. on the other end you could use one if there Media Converter. -

thewireguys replied to scorpion's topic in System Design
I am sorry Rory but I think the iphone has a lot of potential and not just with IP cameras and DVRs. Think if what you can do with it when it come to home automation. This is a IP addressable IR controller that could be used with the iphone to control your home theater. So for $199 I can: control my theater turn on and of my lights arm and disarm my security system view and control my IP cameras lock and unlock doors surf the web and its a phone that is just that start People pay tens of thousands of dollars to do this with Crestron and AMX. Now you have the iphone that can do this for $199 I WISH I KNEW HOW TO WRITE CODE I COULD BE RICH -
IP panel-free access control
thewireguys replied to thewireguys's topic in General Access Control Discussion
Clause 33 of IEEE 802.3-2005 (commonly referred to as IEEE 802.3af) selectable current of 10–400 mA subject to a maximum load power of 15.40 W. Only about 12.95 W are available after counting cable losses Isonas told me there is 1amp total power available for power. He said the the reader uses .2amps, strikes/mags can use no more then .5amps, and the left over .3 is used to power motions, REX buttons, and anything else you would need. I have one reader installed in my office for about 2 weeks with a strike. I haven't had any problems at all. Great product -
