plexiglass acts like mirror at night
thewireguys replied to randy@wholesaledialup.com's topic in General Digital Discussion
First you need to move the camera so it is touching the Plexi. You might have to make a tube that will go around the lens to keep the lens from seeing the IRs. -
splicing into an existing camera??
thewireguys replied to rdawg's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Are you saying you don't have anymore wire and you need to buy more or there is no more room to run the wire? If you are using RG-59 it is one camera per wire. If your using Cat5 then you can have one camera per par of wire. So you can have 4 camera on one Cat5 wire. This is without power. If your using IP cameras you can use switches and you can have many IP cameras over one cat5 (trunk wire). Another advantage of IP cameras. -
I'm installing 2 tomorrow I will let you know how it turns out.

Cat7 video This a a great video on what you can do with Cat7. You can have a 10/100m network, HD video feed, and one telephone line on one Cat7 run.

Great let us know how this works out!!

No there is a big difference for networking. Cat5 can't do 1 gig network Cat5e can do 1 gig network maximum Cat6 was designed to do 1 gig network and can it can support 10g for limited distance. Cat6A can do 10g network for 328ft (100m) Today Cat6a is not a big deal but in 3 years when you have to tell your customers they have to replace there Cat5e because it can't support 10g then it's a very big and expensive deal. Cat5e lifespan is 3 to 5 years Cat6 lifespan is 5 to 10 years Cat6a lifespan is 10 to 15 years Cat7 lifespan is over 15 years We replace are customers computers about every 3 years. So from now on we don't recommend anything less then Cat6.

Geo-NVR and Max IP Megapixel Cameras
thewireguys replied to protecvideo's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What megapixel cameras are you looking at? 1.3 , 2 , 3 , 5? You are going to need a beefy server to record 14 megapixel cameras and ALOT of storage. I don't know of any megapixel cameras that stream 30fps @ megapixel resolution. The Geovision will do MPEG4 30fps@VGA MJPEG 15fps@1280x960. -
I charge that much for Cat6!!! I found Cat6a at around $600.00 for 1000' How much are you paying for cat6a 1000' ? ands Leviton 10G ends?

Apple courts iPhone developers! (DVR APPS)??
thewireguys replied to scorpion's topic in System Design
I just watched the almost 2 hour keynote on the iphone. I think i am sold now that it can do push email, contacts and calender. I have used one to control a AXIS ptz though the web interface with wifi. I can wait to log in to cameras with 3G. There is going to be alot of useful programs. I was going to get the new BB Bold but this changed my mind. And you can't beat the price $199 -
yea there website sucks...... but they have a good product..... they sell direct

Hartmann controls is has a very easy to use user interface. But it is a panel system there is alot of wires to run. Here is a link With the Isonas system you could run the software at your office on your server and administrate the system from our office. Sell him a maintenance contract so he doesn't have to do anything.

IP camera for Sea port
thewireguys replied to si_kungs's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Axis does have very good NVR software but it is limited to 50 camera. Axis also has a NVR product but it is not available in the USA. Some good NVR software is: Aimetis ( good pricing and very good analytics) Milestone Video Insight (Would be good for your first install the best support and all in one solution) There is ALOT of NVR software if I where you i would download the demos and take them for a spin. Use the one witht he best support because you are going to have a lot of question. You are going to need minimum 2 servers maybe 4 total depending on the NVR software you choose. Here is Axis Design Tool. Use it to calculate bandwidth and storage requirements. Milestone's website also has alot of good info to help. If this was my job I would use Axis and Arecont cameras. Alot of PTZs and Megapixel cameras with Aimetis NVR software with video analytics on DELL servers. -

ip cameras to analog dvr
thewireguys replied to Nuttyprof's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What is the manufacture of the IP you want to use? I know Axis has a Network Video Decoder but it only works with Axis cameras. If you are doing more then one camera it will more cost defective to replace your DVR with a NVR or a hybrid DVR. For wireless AP check out EnGenius] -

I have an idea for a computer program related to cctv, access control, and security but I have know idea how to write code. What do I do? This is something that could be sold to everyone or something that only I offer my customers. I dont expect to get rich but I don't want to give it away. Any idea on how to go about this? Thanks

The Isonas reader is Panel free like the on Scorpion recommended. But the best part is you on have to run one cat5 home!!!!! In standalone mode the reader can store 64,000 users and 5,000 events. One Isonas reader with POE injector is cheaper and alot easier to install then a normal panel system. There is 12volts @ .5amps to power the strike or maglock ( or in your case a relay) all with one cat5.
