Axis vs Vivotek (with images)
thewireguys posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
For those of you wanting to see how Vivotek stacks up against Axis here you go. I have a Vivotek 6111 with a analog output which I hooked up to a Axis 247s video server. I'll let the images speak for them selfs. Vivotek 6111 Axis 247 hooked up to the Vivotek Analog output Axis hands down has a better image. Looks like there is a good camera in the Vivotek but the video server sucks. -
Axis vs Vivotek (with images)
thewireguys replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Rory same setup as before. The camera is a Vivotek 6111. The top image is from the built in Vivotek streamer and the bottom image is the Vivotek camera with the Axis video server hookup to the composite output. -
I just received the 3130 for demo and I have a couple of questions. I have used Axis, Vivotek, and Panasonic cameras and the Arecont seams a little different. First the image is good I don't think it as good as the demo images on their website. But I think that could be because I got the cheaper lens. On the Axis cameras you can log in and change the IP address, ports, setup motion detection. I have played with the web interface and I can't seam to find where where you make these adjustments. I have the Arecont software installed and I know how to adjust the image and day/night but stuff is missing. So here are my questions. How do you adjust the following setting using the web interface. Change the port? Setup onboard motion detection (I see this in their software)? Setup the trigger in/outs? Can you send email on motion or triggers? Setup passwords? Thanks guys

thewireguys replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks guys!! Rory those images are from the same Vivotek camera I just hooked up my Axis video server to the analog output. So the the lens and focus did not change. Image settings on the Vivotek: Size : double Image quality: Excellent Image settings on the Axis server: Size : 704*480 Compression: 0 both are MJEG The Vivotek looks out of focus and has alot of pink and red in the image, but the Axis looking though the same camera looks great. I will post some night shots later. -
Axis vs Vivotek (with images)
thewireguys replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
For me image quality is number one. There is no point to spend the money on a video surveillance system if you can't identify the person or object with the system. I find it easy to make this point when I show them images from a good camera next to cheap camera. After they see the images they have a realistic idea of what they can get with there money. And at that point if they don't want to spend the money then they are not a customer for me. -
Panasonic WV-NS202A Outside Mounting Arrangement

This is what I would use. It will not be a easy install but it will be very clean and discreet. I don't think the housing you posted about is to be used outside. -

Ill see what I can do..... It will be a big file -
I have a customer that wants IR day/night dome cameras. Its a small system, 2 outdoor cameras and a DVR. These people think there neighbor is stealing the fish from there pond and they are hell bent on catching them. They want the system done right i'm trying to find good cameras and a DVR to use. I live in the IP camera side of things but it's just not a option at this place otherwise I would put in one Arecont 3130M and a server and be done with it. One camera is going to be installed under the deck in the corner so it's not to obvious and it will be about 20 ft from the pond. The other camera will be mounted one the side of the deck facing the gate about 10 ft away. For the cameras I was thinking Vivotek 6111 domes but the way the wires come out if the housing just will not work. There is no place to put the wires because the way the cameras will be mounted. So my next choice was Extreme CCTV EX40 but I have never used one so i am hoping someone could tell me what they think of them. For the DVR I was thinking Avermedia 1704Hybrid. I know this will record IP cameras so if they ever add cameras I have options and I want to try this out for smaller low budget systems. The DVR will go in there audio rack so it cant have 1000000rpm fans. The 1704 says "fanless design" is it quite? Is this DVR easy to use? or are they going to call me everytime they want to search for video? 2 Extreme CCTV EX40Ns 1 Avemedia 1704H or the dvd version Then me what you think

Alternatives to Mobotix ? Questions on Arecont
thewireguys replied to MarkV's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Arecont is coming out with a outdoor dome housing for there cameras in next month or so. I would hate to put such a small camera in a Videolarm housing so I can't wait to see the housing. Just give you a idea the Arecont 3130M at 3megs and max fps filled up my 500 gig hd in about 30hours. -

I think the problem is with the cheap lens I am using. At some point I am going to order better lens and I think that will help the focus. But I still am not happy with the color. Look at the Axis then the Arecont and you will see what I mean. Over all it's a great camera at a great price but I think we are comparing the megapixel cctv cameras to megapixel still cameras and they have better images. I talked to Avigilon the other day and it sounds like they have a very good product. The rep I talked to said they're adding IR filters to the cameras in about a month. So I will order one in about a month. -
Yep, dont expect too much IR from it .. I think you had one right? Anyway, personally I would buy a decent Day Night dome then install separate IR. OK give me some model numbers for good Day/Night vandal domes and IR spots.

I think the Axis 211M has better color then the Arecont. I am very impressed with the Axis 207MW. That is a very good pic for $400.00 I want to try the Axis 223M, Arecont 5 MP (good lens), and a Avigilon camera. What do you think? -

Arecont 3130M daytime 3 Megapixel Moving objects: Speed limit is 35mph The camera is on a mount shooting though a window. That is why you have the reflection in the day images. Daytime: I can almost make out the plate when I zoom in. Night: -

They want a permanent install. Who makes the EX40?
-
I understand what your saying. I have a Vivotek 6111 at my front door and it works well but it's not great. At night there is no reflection of IR off the dome. The Vivotek IP streamer is not that good in that camera. I hooked up my Axis 247s to the analog output and the image got much better. Anyway back on topic. Like I said I would like to use Arecont but a 2 camera setup with a server is going to run around $5000.00 installed. The system I spec'd could be done for around $3500.00. The big problem with this 3 story house is everything is drywalled and the computer/cable modem is on the 3rd floor. So I am going to get very creative on the fishing. I am hoping to drill from under the deck into the ceiling in the basement and fish into the only unfinished part of the house. This one is going to be fun. Arecont has a outdoor dome housing but it's not avalible yet. Does anyone else make a outdoor dome housing for Arecont cameras?

What frame rate and bandwith u getting ? I am getting 24 frames on Arecont 2100 and 12-13 on 3100 I didn't check the frame rates on the Axis but it didn't look slow at all. I had my Arecont 3130 recording on my old laptop (p4 2.8 1 gig ram 160 hd) that I use for covert recording and it was just barely running (very hot). I was getting around 6-5 fps day @ 3Megapixels and maybe 7-8 at night 1.3Megapixels. The laptop can't handle the Arecont's but I did not have any problem with Axis Camera Station although I haven't tried any Axis mega cameras. I moved the Arecont recording software to my test server which I like to call The Beast . Supermicro dual Xeon setup running one 2.3 quad core Xeon, 4 gigs of ram, one raptor drive for OS and 2 500 gigs for recording. With this setup I'm getting 26fps at night 1.3Megapixels and 21fps daytime @ 3megapixels. Just for fun I set it up to record max fps @ max image quality. WOW does this eat storage . It's been recording for 5 hours and it used 78gigs for storage. Also it's eating up about 25% CPU power on 4 cores when I live view but when the program is minimized CPU drops to 4%. The Areconts need lots of CPU and storage. -
