Need IP/PoE solution
thewireguys replied to kindofsudden's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If you want to receive alerts you want to something like VideoIQ which can detect people, cars and boats then send events to your smart phone or computer. Also I would stay sway from ACTi. Hikvision is cheaper and has better image quality. -
Question about high-end IP cameras
thewireguys replied to jackleblack's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Skip the JPEG FTP upload every 5 min and go with live real time streaming like this: http://cetronia.twgcameras.tv/ I have 3 ski resorts for customers so let me know if you have any questions. -

60 fps frame rate - a new standard for Low Light MP Cameras?
thewireguys replied to myiicu's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I had time to mess with it for a couple of hours. It's not as easy to setup as Avigilon's LPR and you need a VERY tight FOV for it to work. I only have a 9-40mm lens and I need something more like 80mm or longer to so I can test it. Some day I will test it again because I am interested in getting it integrated into Aviglion for ALPR but I am currently neck deep in a 500 camera project right now. -
60 fps frame rate - a new standard for Low Light MP Cameras?
thewireguys replied to myiicu's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Avigilon's Lightcatcher and Axis Q1604 have no problem with low light and 30fps without motion blur. -
Synology or QNAP NVR versus PC and iSCSI
thewireguys replied to dalepres's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I would not use either as your NVR. I would use them to add storage to a systen you currently have. -
Synology or QNAP NVR versus PC and iSCSI
thewireguys replied to dalepres's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have used both Synology and QNAP for iSCSI storage. I prefer Synology to QNAP. iSCSI is very easy to setup and has worked reliably. -

Hikvision Raptor 5.1
thewireguys replied to UserM's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have been testing the BETA firmware for a couple of days now on a NC-KD032 Disabling IR works but you have to reboot the camera after you save. No luck getting the camera to record to my NAS Motion detection no longer works with Avigilon. There is a new option for SVC streams. Interesting to see if any VMSs will support this. Vivotek had this option to but I don't think it ever gained any traction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Video_Coding -

The system with 40TB has between 200-230 Mbps coming into the server and about 50Mbps going out to clients. I built the RAID which took about 30min then it continued to optimize in the backround while the system was recording. I didnt see any performance issues with our VMS solution while it was optimizing. So far so good.

I am currently working on system the previous integrator installed. Most RAID cards are LSI in 24 or 36 bay Supermicro custom boxes.

Not a fan of Dahua because of the lack of manufacture support. Hikvision and Avigilon is what we use the most.

NVR v onboard
thewireguys replied to bosko303's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Even if you use a VMS platform your cameras will still stream 24/7 to your server which is totally normal. -

thewireguys replied to Agentchuckles's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have a feeling this is going to be a very over hyped camera. -

Just built a 40.9TB (18 3TB Segate drives)Array using a LSI RAID card configured as a RAID 6 with one hot spare. The customer is running Avigilon and we haven't had any issues with the Array.

Looking for a VMS with these functions (if exists)

Also most people dont like the idea of random people being able to watch cameras inside there homes. Also you will have a hard time getting a small business to pay $140 a month let alone a home owner. Also what your trying to do is nothing like a city wide cctv system which 99% of the time has there own dedicated network (wired and/or wireless network) to work with. -
Ok well you should know how many TB of storage you need. Do you know how to calculate this? It can easily be done for example I am currently working on a system with 250TB of storage
-
So how many TB of storage do you requre?

thewireguys replied to hardcopy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Bandwidth, bandwidth caps, price and low resolution. For a 4 camera system your going to charge $140 per month x 12 = $1680 per year just for your service. The customer also must have a internet contention which will be an additional cost. You can purchase a 4 channel HD system for under $1680 and own it unlike your solution which I will have to continue to pay for and it will be MUCH lower resolution and frame rate. -

What do you plan to charge for this service? How much per camera? FYI you are not the first person to come up with this idea which sounds great on paper but not so easy to implement. -

How do you find a good residential installer?
thewireguys replied to imaniguana's topic in General Digital Discussion
Send a PM to "thewireguys" on here, he can take care of you and does fantastic work. I will send him a text right now to make sure he pops in and sees this. Scott thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately we no longer do residential installs so I will not be able to to help on this project. Also I have found that most electricians are clueless when it comes to installing IP video systems hence why my business has exploded.
