  1. Tried it, found all my cameras, amazing, no other app finds all my cameras. It does have major flaws, maybe because it's not fully baked. For example, it won't connect to my cameras that use a non-standard http port (80) and no place to enter in a port number. Even when it is port 80, my Dahua's just flash UNAUTHORIZED. It did that to all my cameras but when I set the password it worked fine but not on Dahua but worked with ACTi and Hikvision, both 3MP. Would also not connect to older ACTi cameras, like an acm-1231, says it did, but nothing. It has the cleanest interface I've ever seen though but a little tough to figure out. It's claim to fame on it's website seems to be exceptionally low CPU, but yet took my quad core PC to a place it didn't like. It was using 50% CPU with only two cameras setup for motion detect recording (was actually at 63%, ended the program and went 13% cpu, so 1 full core per camera, ouch). It worked with my Dahua and Hik cameras. They also got it software to work with Avigilon's cameras. I interface is very clean and easy to use once you figure out where everything is. The nice part is everything is on the same page you don't have to click on a record video tab or search page. Not sure why your CPU usage is so high as I did not have a issue. Also one nice thing is you only need a license to record the cameras so you can connect to as many cameras as you like for live viewing only
  2. This might fit yours needs too Voip-ninja and like I said you get 4 free licenses if you activate it in the next couple of days. Nothing to lose. http://networkoptix.com/products/hdwitness/
  3. Still think you should test this VMS. If you download and activate it in by the end of the week you will have 4 free licenses. Once 1.6 is released the freebe is going away. http://networkoptix.com/products/hdwitness/ As for the the Avigilon comparison with Synology there is no doubt they may have more searching options I would highly doubt it could match the speed and usability. Either way I am looking forward for the review.

    Avigilon 5MP bullet

Your best bet would be to pick up a 5MP JPEG2000 box camera to compare the images. Also I don't see how JPEG2000 would make any sense for DSLR or any other point in shoot camera. JPEG2000 helps in the CCTV world with the ability to dynamically adjust the image size depending on your screen size or matrix view.

    Avigilon 5MP bullet

Because H.264 is a cool thing to do and most people don't understand the power of JPEG2000. Now I am not saying every camera needs or should be JPEG2000 but it is a tool and it works very well when you need it.

    Avigilon 5MP bullet

He is not using the PRO cameras and I was not referring to the PRO cameras. He is using the now discontinued JPEG2000 5MP Box camera.

    Avigilon 5MP bullet

He is comparing a JPEG2000 image to H.264. There is no contest the JPEG2000 will be always sharper then H.264. I do agree the Bullet cameras need to be sharper but you will never be as good as the JPEG2000 cameras. I while ago when I was testing the 5MP JPEG200 camera I wanted to see how it compared to a 5MP h.264 camera with the same lens. I ordered a Axis P1347 5MP camera and in H.264 mode I could only read about a 1/3 of the plates compared to the Aviglion 5MP JPEG2000 camera. When I switched the camera to MJPEG mode I could ID about 2/3s of the plates. JPEG2000 was much better option.
  8. You can actuality send the feed back directly from the client software. In ACC5 in the top right hand corner of the client software click the "cog" then "send feedback". Avigilon's product management sees this and they value it. As you are a end user it would be best coming from you.
  9. Yes the web client is very nice and basically just like the client software without access to admin the system. Why not just use the client software if you don't like IE? I think Milestone has the upper hand with the mobile app but Avigilon is much easier to configure and way more intuitive to use. I have customers that use MACs and they went with Parallels to run Avigilon because of how fast and easy the client is to use. That being said I wish there was a native MAC program. Also since the access control company they purchased is Linux based I am curious if they will release Linux version of VMS software.

    Avigilon 5MP bullet

Nice shots Did you try to run the bullet camera in MJPEG mode?
  11. You can restart Avigilon's Gateway Server from Computer Management > Services page. You can also stop IIS service from the same page.

    Solar power

12VDC or 24VDC is the best way to go. Look at it this way it is cheaper and easier to buy more expensive gear that runs on 12 or 24 DC then add additional solar power. Here is a 12VDC powered switch with POE output that would work very well if you need it.

    Solar power

Ok let me explain even though you want the system to run 24/7 you still need to come up with a run time for the batteries so you can size them properly. Meaning without sun how long do you want the system to run for....... example 24 hours or 72 hours. Once you have your run time needs you now can size the solar panels for your needs. Remember to have enough wattage to charge the batteries and run your equipment when the sun it out. Also I would spec the equipment to run on 12VDC or 24VDC to have the most efficient setup.

    Solar power

How long do you need/want it to run on battery for?

    NVR or PC or Server?

The specs needed for your servers and based off the VMS you plan to use. Pick the VMS first then spec the server.

    Computer upgrade. i7 pr SSD

Install the OS on a SSD and record the cameras to the spinning drives.

    Portable PTZ Camera

You have lots of options and anything is possible. Do you have a budget in mind for this system? Is super low light important? How much run time do you need? Is weight an issue?
  19. 360 cameras are not for ID shots unless you are close to the camera. The advantage with them is total situational awareness of the area. You can't hide from them
  20. The PRO cameras range in price from $5k to $10k depending on the model. That does not include the lens.
  21. Tho downsides you listed are VMS specific.
  22. I was referring to dealer pricing.
  23. I can get HD-SDI cameras cheaper then those Dahua domes. HD-SDI does a couple of things better then IP and you have to see it live side by side to appreciate them.
  24. You use HD-SDI/HDCCTV cameras with HD-DVRs and resolution is limited to 1080P. No software or converters are needed it's just like installing an analog camera system. Here is a 2MP indoor dome for $165.60 http://www.123securityproducts.com/vtd-hoc4f-iw.html?gclid=CIWindP5t7gCFRSi4Aodo1IAqQ Here is a example of the latency though I think this is over exaggerated.
