Poor man's Synology NAS for your cameras
thewireguys replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I agree Milestone's mobile client is great and I am assuming you mean server side motion detection. My favorite part is mobile client is it copies for views from you Windows client. Also the streaming video from your cell phones camera is nifty. -

Help with new Service Station/Gas Station install
thewireguys replied to iceman650's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The advantage with HD-SDI is you can reuse existing cabling, uncompressed 1080P zero latency video and camera prices are lower then IP cameras. If you purchase SD-SDI or CCTV cameras now and decide to switch later to IP you will have to replace the cameras or find a VMS that supports your DVR. Personally I think HD-SDI/HDCCTV is missing the boat by no having a low cost 4 channel encoder which is supported by major VMS platforms. I have been impressed with the video from the cameras but going back to DVRs is a non-starter for my customers. -

Milestone Vs 360 Degree Camera's (yes, another)
thewireguys replied to MR2's topic in Security Cameras
I have been using the Mobotix Q24 and a Axis m3007 with both Avigilon and Milestone for a couple of months. One thing I have learned is if you wall mount the camera there is no need for the dwarping. Also if your comparing images I would prefer the Axis camera because you get higher resolution and higher frame rates. -

Some say that because there is more processing power available they can use better compression. HDCCTV Alliance has lots of info if you care to read. http://www.highdefcctv.org/why-hdcctv Not saying that I believe all of it but it is on the internet so it must be true. -

The compressed video will look as good as IP video since they are booth compressed though some will argue that HD-SDI has better video. -

can you send uncompressed video with IP Of the HD-SDI cameras I have use they have some of the best images and low light night time performance I have seen from any camera. I am not a fan of coax either but I can live with that what I can't live with is the GUI and usability of the DVRs. Why a manufacture doesn't come out with a low cost 4 channel HD-SDI encoder that we can use with VMS platforms is beyond me. -

Exacq supports multiple streams with the Pro or Enterprise. Basically the streams show up as different cameras and so it would work well for your needs with a 360 camera. FYI Tyco acquired Exacq so who knows what will happen in a year or two. Tyco likes to screw up stuff like this. -
You can mount the AP inside the window and point it out. UBNT even has mounts for this type of setup.
-
Ak is right an AP on your building is a much more reliable option and WAN speed test is not a proper speed test for a wireless link. Try running running a network speed test program like jperf to see the real bandwidth that you have available If you want to stress the link a little switch your camera to MJPEG mode and max out the bandwidth. Question are you using the router for your home wireless AP or is this dedicated to the remote AP?

thewireguys replied to quick_pick's topic in Classifieds
How do I cause a lot of trouble on this forum? Someone said "Thought Avigilon manufactured in North Ameraica?" I responded and answered the question. How does that make me a trouble maker? It looks to me like you have a bone to pick and are starting with me. I have more important things to do then to play your games. -
