  1. There are many reasons why you would want to reduce the IR's intensity with the most important being overexposure. If you have so much light that your subjects are blown out you would want to reduce the output to get a proper exposure.
  2. I am not familiar with those models but I have used both QNAP/Synology and I would go with Synology.
  3. Here is the list of control protocols that Avigilon's encoders support: American Dynamics Sensormatic, AXSYS, AXSYS DCU, Ernitec ERNA, Honeywell Diamond, Kalatel ASCII, Pelco D, Pelco P, TEB Ligne, Vicon extended, Vicon normal, Videotec Legacy, Videotec MACRO If your Bosch PTZ cameras use one of these protocols Avigilon's encoders will control the PTZ camera. You will need one encoder per 4 PTZ cameras.
  4. your iscsi bohemoth is not the typical NAS that our thread starter is talking about, the difference is chalk and cheese when you start talking about NAS units that include real hardcore Raid controllers with cache etc by all means inform us as to your full configuration including cost of the units + drives/rpm etc I also find it a bit rich that your calling it a Milestone limitation, fairly consistent with your previous posts though [/quote Synology is at the same price level as QNAP and I was not taking a dig at Milestone.
  5. VMS= Video Management Software
  6. The issue you are seeing is a limitation of the VMS which is Milestone in your case. My iSCSI unit with 2 Avigilon servers using it for storage targets has no speed issues when reviewing multiple streams . If anything I would describe it as a small amount of latency compared to local spinning disks. We have one project with about 30 2MP streams(180ish Mbps) recording to iSCSI target via a server running Avigilon. Minus a couple of issues of the LUNs not reconnecting when the server restarted the customer is very happy.
  7. Not very many NVRs/VMS will allow you to use network shares as storage targets so I would recommend you purchase a NAS with iSCSI support. This way you can setup a storage target that acts as a local drive in your NVR/VMS. I have been testing a Synology DS1812+ and I have been very happy with multiple Avigilon NVRs pointed to the unit without any issues.

    fluidmesh vs. ruckus

Two totally different animals. Ruckus is a enterprise WIFI network and Fluidmesh is a PTP/PTMP/MESH backhaul solution. Ruckus does have some PTP gear but it is not managed like Fluidmesh.

    Demo Axis P1347 FORSALE!

I have a Axis P1347 that I used to demo for sale. Camera was used for about 24 hours and is "as new" condition. $800 + shipping Paypal, Visa, Mastercard, American Express http://www.axis.com/products/cam_p1347/
  11. No I can read the site anymore he has this new protection feature where my eyes burn when I read anything on his site.
  12. Gotta love John H is trolling my posts
  13. Customers don't care what compression you use all they care about is IDing the plate or person. We have won projects specifically because Avigilon's 5MP JPEG2000 camera could ID plates and no other manufactures 5MP camera could. At one point I wanted to test to see if another manufactures camera could ID the plates under the exact conditions so I ordered a Axis P1347 and put the same Thiea 9-40mm lens on it using the same IR illuminator. I would say the Axis camera with H.264 compression could ID the plates about 25% of the time. When I switched to MJPEG is went up to about 90% while the JPEG2000 camera could pull the plate 100% of the time. I have told Avigilon this and I think getting rid of the 5MP JPEG2000 camera is a mistake.
  14. I have spoke with them about their fuel cell technology. Very cool stuff.
  15. Of course there is not the "best" codec for each situation, the right designer choses the right codec for the exact situation.. But it's very very difficult find the situation when Jpeg2000 is the right codec for 1/2/3 or 5MP cameras.. In fact at the moment that Avigilon have 1/2/3/5MP H264 box/bullet and fixed dome cameras they Discontinued http://avigilon.com/#/products/cameras/ the 1/2/3/5MP Jpeg2000 box/bullet and fixed dome cameras! (only panoramic fixed dome and PRO series..8/11/16/29 MP are now Avigilon Jpeg2000 cameras..at the moment...seems to me). Gvn Wow way to dig up a 2 year old thread. I stand by my statement that JPEG2000 or MxPEG has more image detail then H.264 and I have installs, customers and hours of demo video to prove it. Would I not recommended JPEG2000 for every camera absolutely not but when you need better image detail then video quality JPEG2000 is better. Avigilon's 5MP JPEG2000 camera is absolutly a amazing camera that can do things not other 5MP H.264 camera on the make can do. Yes Avigilon is discontinuing the JPEG2000 box/dome cameras and I know exactly why and it's not because of the image quality more on the lines of lack of education .

    HD-SDI Over IP

We already installed a hybrid solution for the customer. The point I am trying to make is it would be cheaper to use a hdsdi encoder with hdsdi cameras then use IP cameras where you will have to use coax converters or re-cable every analog to convert them to HD.

    Avigilon + Exacq

The Avigilon 5MP box camera needs to be in a housing for outdoor use. They also have outdoor 5MP domes which you can use. Yes you can use the Mini-Dome outdoors but it is color only. Also the only resolution options for the Mini-Dome's are 1MP and 2MP. It is not shipping until August. All of Avigilon's H.264 come with built in lenses so you don't have the option for wider angel lenses. Yes I have used Exacq with Avigilon (we used to sell a lot of Exacq) and I would recommend Avigilon's VMS with their cameras. Avigilon's VMS with Avigilon's cameras is basically plug and play. Plus all camera controls are built in to the VMS and are only a right click away unlike Exacq where you have to log into the GUI of the cameras to do any major changes and this goes for ANY camera with Exacq. Plus the fact the searching video in Exacq compared to Avigilon is like watching paint dry.

Not sure what your budget is but this could be an option for you. VideoIQ has a new appliance that will allow you to run their analytics on third party IP cameras. I am very much looking forward to testing this unit in the next couple of weeks. http://media.wix.com/ugd//d52377_41d5ee98533e7fb1b850a28aca02800d.pdf
  20. Great list but your Avigilon VMS pricing is way off Per channel Core ~$100 Standard ~$200 Enterprise ~$350
  21. Chris the 5MP 9-22 works very well for LP shots.

Best night time low light camera

Your best option would be to turn off the internal IR and add a large external IR unit. This will give your much more even IR coverage.

What size box to use for intercom?

there is no standard size. What I would recommend is contact the manufacture of the intercom system and ask. Most of the time they have their own rough-in boxes.
