  1. I have customers with encoders and PTZ cameras using Pelco "d" protocol without the issues. I also setup a test the other night testing a Axis M7001 VS Avigilon encoder and there was no where near 500+ milliseconds of latency.
  2. If you are going to use the Avigilon 2MP camera it makes sense to use Avigilon's VMS. This will make setting up your system much faster and basically plug and play. Also if you have a support issue there is only one manufacture contact and they have 24/7 free phone support if you need them. Server wise you can go with anyone you want as long it meets Avigilon software requirements. Most of the time we are using Avgilon servers which come rack ready again reducing our time working configuring servers. If this is your first time with IP, Avigilon is very easy to work with so you can spend more time using the system and less time install it.

    HD-SDI Over IP

I saw a HD-SDI encoder at ASIS and they had Milestone and think Exacq connected to it. I laughed at them when they told me the price was $2K MSRP. Also it took a lot of coaxing but they finally admitted that the unit did not have onboard motion detection so you had to use a VMS with server based motion detection.

    HD-SDI Over IP

I totally agree $2000 is ridiculous especially when I have a stack of 4 channel HD-SDI DVRs for $250 each and cameras ranging from $100 to $200. So far I haven't seen any compatibility issues with different manufactures of HD-SDI products

  6. Wow for the record I didn't bring up Avigilon but I would be more then happy to help you with the system design. Please PM me if you are interested. Yes with Avigilon it is very easy to view live and recorded video on the same monitor. You can even view live and recorded of the same camera at the same time. Did you ever see a demo of the Avigilon solution?
  7. I think if the OP is interested in Dahua he should start out researching what other casinos currenly have Dahua (if any) and get some feed back from that customer.

    HD-SDI Over IP

I am looking at this as a very cost effective way to upgrade current customers with analog cameras. I have tested many HD-SDI cameras starting at a $100 with very impressive image quality but terrible user experience with the DVRs. Our current customers with analog cameras have already total us they are not purchasing any more analog cameras when their current ones go bad. As you already know to upgrade these analog cameras our options are a) re-cable each camera b) use coax adapters. If I could replace the current analog encoders with HD-SDI encoders and then replace the cameras with HD-SDI cameras this COULD be a very effective way to upgrade to HD. I am not concerned at all with the other benefits a end to end HD-SDI system. I truly think this is the only way HD-SDI will take off for anything over 4-8 channel customers.

    HD-SDI Over IP

No one sells one but I can see a need for one. A $150 HD-SDI, $350ish encoder and with a VMS licenses would be a very cost effective HD upgrade option. So you're recommending vaporware? Now I understand... ?? I am not recommending anything I am simply saying there would be a need for a product. What's up with the hostility?

    HD-SDI Over IP

I have to disagree with you. I think a low cost $350ish 4 channel HD-SDI encoder could be very useful. I have been very impressed with HD-SDI camera image quailty vs price. Most of our customers are "take overs" looking to upgrade to HD/MP and this would be a very cost effective option to move up in resolution. I understand you will not have all the benefits of a end to end HD-SDI solution but the image quality should be the same or better then I am getting from IP without having to re-cable or convert.

    HD-SDI Over IP

Sure they run about $2K for a 4 channel encoder and who knows what VMS platforms they will work with.
  13. Why are you looking for analog resolution. I would recommend getting 720P or better if you can afford it.
  14. I am still waiting for a cost effective encoder to use with HD-SDI cameras. So far the image quality is very good but I have yet to find a DVR that is any good at searching and exporting video.
  15. Do you sell a lot of HD-SDI?
  16. Another option is a Axis or IQI camera running Exacq on the camera and recording to a SD or NAS. Much easier to use and manage then Mobotix's software or web interface. Mobotix makes a great camera but their software is not very user friendly.

Whatever works and makes the customer happy. That is all that matters to me.

    IP cam Test Monitor

So say you go around and focus all of your cameras and then you show your customer the FOV on the monitors and then they say well I really would like that one moved to the left a little. Now you have to send your tech back out to the camera and adjust it again. When you have the customer looking at the monitor as your installing and aiming the cameras you only have to touch the camera once. Having drawings showing the FOVs is nice but extremely time consuming and a lot of the time something that looks good on paper doesn't work well when installed in the real world. IMHO

    IP cam Test Monitor

??? I never ask a customer to assist with setup. I ask them to approve the FOV. This way I NEVER get a customer telling me that is not the view/coverage they where looking for. I have been doing it this way for a couple of years now and customers appreciate it very much. They are also learning how easy it is to use the system. We get a lot of compliments from customers after our installs.

    IP cam Test Monitor

When we install cameras alone we have the customer with a 2-way radio at a client machine directing us so we get the exact FOV that they are looking for. Does the client talk you through focusing the camera too? You must have some very knowledgeable clients. LOL.... You guys keep doing it the hard way All the customer needs to do is press "auto focus" and they can also adjust the focal length. All through the client software without EVER logging into the web interface of the camera. Focus process: Right click on camera> Setup> Image and Display > you will see zoom/focus controls. And yes I have some very knowledgeable customers

We have hung hundreds of cameras the last year without any dropped laptops. I have tried installing IP cameras every way possible and starting with the head end and working your way out and using 2-way radios to be the fastest most efficient way for our needs. The new bullet cameras we us now have an extra network jack on the camera so you can plug you laptop directly into the cameras without the need for the Pointsource. This will be a big help if we need to aim cameras with the laptop.
