What's the point of an NVR over a computer based solution?
thewireguys replied to jasauders's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
This is not true for all VMS platforms -

I would be more then happy to answer any questions you have about Exacq or Avigilon. I have lots of experience with both of them. -
New Home IP CCTV System with airCam
thewireguys replied to HiroPro's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I would be more then happy to give you a strait forward answer. First thing is the cameras you selected are not supported by any other vms besides ubnts unless you use rtsp. Those cameras do not have on board motion detection even when using ubnts software which is a custom version of zoneminder. Basicly unfortunately you boxed yourself in a corner with your camera selection. Milestone I think would be your best bet for rtsp support and they support on server bases motion detection. If you don't need motion detection you will have more options for vms bit your cameras will record 24/7. -

Your software choices are very limited because of the UBNT cameras. You will need a software that supports RTSP and server based motion detection. -
NVR Software Reviews
thewireguys replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Any dummy can write a review and any dummy can use software written by someone else. I see you on all these posts belittling everyone. What software have you written? Or are you just another dumb CCTV software user. Welcome back Rory...... we missed you -
Both of those cameras are AF POE compliant so you do not need a POE splitter. Just plug the RJ-45 directly into the camera and use a AF compliant injector at the other end or a POE switch.

NVR Software Reviews
thewireguys replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I agree if your having trouble with Exacq this isn't going to be good. I would like to know what experience this guy has. You don't want the blind leading the blind. Also how do we know he is not sponsored by manufactures he is reviewing and pay him to write reviews on their products If you want good info I recommend you skip the very basic blog and have a look at this site. It is a paid site but John does not except money from manufactures. http://ipvm.com/ -
Installing Multi-Megapixel Camera in shoping center parking

How well do you think this will work with 100 cars in the parking lot and 100 people walking around? -
Questions concerning bandwidth and file sizes w/ IP cams
thewireguys replied to groovyman's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
*Edit my statement about cameras needing 4-6Mbps for 1080p resolution was when the cameras is set at 30FPS. As you can see from Smiths posts when you reduce frame rates band with goes down. -
Questions concerning bandwidth and file sizes w/ IP cams
thewireguys replied to groovyman's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Different VMS hand remote viewing differently but mostly your going to see that some drop frames, others transcode video, finally they will use multiple streams. My favorite is multi streaming where the VMS takes advantage of different streams at different resolutions based on your available bandwidth and/or monitor resolution. Again some VMS are better then others at this and what I mean by that is some do this all automatically (HDSM) where others set this up when you first connect cameras to the system. You will also need cameras that support multiple streams for this to work and VMS that supports them. shockwave199 no need to worry about HD cameras eating up your network. Basically any new switch you would purchase would have at least gigabit uplinks or all gigabit ports and very soon we will start to see more and more 10G switches You need about 4-6Mbps for 1080p cameras so even with a older 100Mbps switch have more then enough bandwidth available for 5-6 cameras and your normal network traffic. There is also many different ways to setup networks to handle hundreds of cameras without any issues. -

I think a better option then a PTZ camera on guard tour would be a couple of 180 cameras and fixed cameras with tight shots on the exits. You are going to miss lots of action with that PTZ unless you have a 24/7 operator. -
Inexpensive - Real Time 4CH D1 Resolution 30FPS DVR

That camera was setup to get plates not ID people and it was a test to see how well it would work. It is one part of a total solution for project which includes other cameras. -
If it's just a video why are you getting so upset and calling people names?
-
Nice work that reminds me of my old home automation/ structured wiring days

Sean, Your killing me

I am talking about really world issues with auto-tracking PTZ cameras and you are editing videos to make them look better then they really are . FYI I can't take credit for finding that the video was edited but I had the balls to show it..... If that person wants come forward let it up to them.

Shockwave mind explaining why you edited this video? Here it jumps from 4:59:05 to 4:59:37 Here it jumps from 5:11:48 t0 5:32:41 Here it jumps from 5:33:24 t0 5:35:07 Here it jumps from 5:33:40 t0 5:05:17

Avigilon - how to disable the image enhacement at night?
thewireguys replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Did you have a look at the display adjustments? Digitally zoom into the image and see what happens -
You were waiting all night to say that? How was your popcorn in the mean time? What if I had an MP camera in the same spot? What would it have gotten when the kids went out of frame down the other street? The big kid on the bike that was harassing the little kid in the pink car- what if he was actually beating the living crap of someone. What if it were ME and the WIFE getting an ass whopping and robbed out there by all of them. And then the big kid on the bike rides around the corner like he did with the other girl and hands off a gun or a knife or my wallet- which the camera tracked. And the car that passes by that is tracked down the street some was involved, stolen, and found ditched a mile away. What if my ptz had been parked on my car and missed all of it? How much of a toy would it be then? I'm not so much of a dick as to make a general statement that auto tracking is perfect, just like a dick would be to say it's a toy or your camera will break to someone trying to add something interesting to a forum. I'll let you all know if and when it does btw, so you can laugh and say I told you so. A few of you can't help but live up to my expectations and anyone visiting these forums can see it too, which is the biggest laugh of all. You can put a serious crime caught to any of that footage and it tracked a lot of it. No toy to to me. Perfect? No. Lucky if you track the right thing? Yes. Increase your odds of tracking anything worth it? Hell yes. And that's where I see the feature being worth it over a ptz that can't auto track. I use the camera as support for my fixed cameras, not as one single solution for all. Even MP cameras- if you don't have something like a four camera 'ptz' arecont fixture, you'd better have full coverage with multiple cameras regardless of how well they see in one direction. I'm talking an analog ptz with auto tracking in a residential setting with a budget homeowners could probably swing. Not MP cameras. And for the life of me, I can't understand why the MP guys like to jump into analog threads and ****t on us all the time. Kinda reminds me of the big kid on the bike pushing the little kid in the car around in my footage. A dick showing poor form. Predictable, and unlikely to change. Wow I point out real world limitations of auto tracking PTZ cameras and you freak out. Correct me if I am wrong but I said NOTHING about analog cameras and other people pointed out the same thing but you wanna attack me saying I am bashing analog? I don't care if you have an auto tracking Gigapixel camera, without a tracking solution the is intelligent enough to track the bad guy (or guys) this system will not give you the results you need when you need them the most, FACT. I understand you have a budget and you found a system that works for you great. But over the last 14 years in the business every customer that I have dealt with that had a auto tracking PTZ camera complained that when they needed it the most it tracked the wrong object or nothing at all.

Installing Multi-Megapixel Camera in shoping center parking
thewireguys replied to security1guy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
No I didn't but that is a Arecont 180 camera not 3xlogic Arecont 180 cameras would be a good choice for general coverage but reliability can be a issue with them. -
I have used some of the best analytic based auto-tracking PTZ cameras on the market and they are nothing better then a fun toy to play with. In the beginning most of the kids where playing the the same area so the was easy to track but you also missed a lot action when the kid on the bike went down the side street. You also missed cars as they drove by. Nice video but auto tracking PTZ cameras are toys and require lots of luck to track the object of interest that you want them to.

Installing Multi-Megapixel Camera in shoping center parking
thewireguys replied to security1guy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks for getting back to me but you didn't answer my question. Which manufacture cameras and VMS have you used? What is the budget for this project? I have cameras that can give you 50-60PPF on every square inch of this parking lot but my bet is your customer doesn't have the budget. As Soundy points out mounting 2 cameras on the main building with tight FOVs to cover your exits with and other cameras for general coverage of your lot will be the most cost effective solution. This 3xlogic camera is a single imager 360 camera and will be usless in a parking lot this big. You can't ID anyone in that tiny gas station with good lighting so their is no way it would do any good in a parking lot. -
