  1. If your gonna put a cheap lens on a megapixel camera there is no reason to have a megapixel camera. I would also recommend a megapixel camera with integrated remote/zoom lens like Avigilon. Little more money but fantastic image quality. Also remember you have to put that camera in a housing before you mount it on your house which isn't gonna look that pleasant. Again Avigilon has a outdoor dome with remote/zoom focus which saves you lots of time on a ladder trying to focus the camera. I have been installing megapixel systems for 5 years and I would be more the happy to design and quote you a full PLUG AND PLAY Avigilon hybrid system. PM me with any questions. Here is a image from their 720P dome camera:

    Axis T8126 High PoE Splitter?

Guess they ran out of stickers FYI Axis only makes their cameras and everything else is OEM'd which means you can buy it cheaper from the original manufacture.

    Axis T8126 High PoE Splitter?

Because Axis doesn't make them... PowerDsine does. Does it look like this: Or this: http://www2.microsemi.com/PowerDsine/Products/Midspan/Splitters/

what are your thoughts on this idea?

I don't mount dome cameras on the wall like this for this reason. Have a look at what axis does.
  5. What VMS software are you planing on using?

    USB Cameras for CCTV

I would love to see some images from your USB cameras in real world conditions. Low light and bright back lighting would be nice to see.

Record Settings - Motion or Full Time

Yes other systems refer to it as "ramp up recording" or "reference image" Avigilon can be setup to record a image say every second and when motion record 30fps with a pre/post record. You can also record on trigger inputs and/or alarms. You can setup multiple schedules per camera. 24/7 with motion is also a option.

    H264 Keyframe intervals

Also have a look at recorded video when the cameras are in black and white mode.

    H264 Keyframe intervals

I like to keep my key frames to no more then 1 second. I have seen with nighttime or busy scenes things can get very funky when you have the key frame set to 2 or 3 seconds. Reducing bandwidth is all fine and dandy but make sure you review the recorded video to make sure your getting the quality of video that you need.

The non-IP "HD CCTV" cameras are quite intriguing to me

^^^ here you go NVR on camera... https://www.exacq.com/products/exacqvision_edge.html At one point I was looking for NIC cards with POE output. I found some but it was cheaper to purchase cheap POE switch then the POE NIC
  12. Looking for any experience with Mobile DVRs with built in GPS and data logging. I am working with a company that has a large demand for a system like this and I am looking at the options that are out there. Right now they are using http://www.saysecurity.com/ and are looking into http://www.aventuratechnologies.com/default.asp. I am open to all options and I want to see what is out there. The SAY mobile have some nice features but it seems like everything is in beta and we need stuff that is going to work. They have a hosted solution that lets you log into the mobile DVRs and view the live video and track the cars on a Google map interface. You can see the cars moving on the map then you can click on them and a window pops up so you can see a live feed. What other options are out there?

The non-IP "HD CCTV" cameras are quite intriguing to me

This is not true SDI cameras from one manufacture may or may not work with other DVR manufactures. HDcctv is a standard that is like ONVIF for SDI cameras/DVR and if you have HDCCTV cameras and HDcctv DVR they will work IF your cabling and connectors can handle it. Also until they have remote zoom/focus cameras where you only need to run one cable for video/power/control I am not interested.

Camera Delivery - FedEx or UPS?

    What firmware are you running?

    Upgrade? Or Replace?

I would strongly recommend a Avigilon solution with encoders. Less then half the price as the Exacq unit for a turn key solution including a external RAID array. Easy to add more encoders or HD/megapixel cameras. Better image quality (30FPS all channels if you need/want) and you can search weeks/months/years worth of video in seconds.
  16. Do you have a link to CNBs VMS?

  21. That is not how that POE adapter is designed to work. The Uniquiti POE adapter is designed for 802.AF switches power to the Nanostations.
