Fishing for camera suggestions..
thewireguys replied to camera-newbie's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
FYI They are re-branded Vivotek cameras http://www.vivotek.com/products/model.php?network_camera=fd8361l Thanks, price looks great though, have you tried them? No I haven't tried Vivotek in a couple of years and I think that camera is EOL soon. I have seen some video from some of the newer models and they look nice for the money. http://www.vivotek.com/products/network_cameras.php -

Raytec or Iluminar will do what you want. The IR148-A10-24 from Iluminar with an angle of 10 degree will do 148' with a HOV of 26'. I wouldn't try anything less then this for your distance. Another nice thing with both Raytec and Iluminar you can adjust the output of the lights to get just the right amount of light on the subject. http://www.iluminarinc.com/pdf/iriluminators/IR148%20Series%20v1.1.pdf

How reliable is the VideoIQ analytics
thewireguys replied to serverguy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have deployed VideoIQ cameras and for what you want to do it will be a good fit. I have found that VideoIQ for preventing/deterring crime before it happens IF you have someone that is live monitoring the system. You can also setup 2-way auto and remote trigger I/O for triggering bells and sirens. Their analytics are self calibrating so you can deploy them fast and without hours of labor to configure the analytics. -
Speaking of Avigilon and Axis encoders. Does Avigilon see Axis 4 port (240q,241q) as a single license like their encoders, or one for each port? 4 licenses for third party encoders

Desperate: "thief" cheating our wired CCTV constantly?
thewireguys replied to ThomasSmith's topic in General Digital Discussion
I would start with tamper proof tape over on your doors and windows. Very cheep and effective way to find out if some one is entering your house when your not around. -
Video mangement software
thewireguys replied to zena's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Kind of a broad question. Who's cameras you using? What is this system for? Will you have someone monitoring the system 24/7? -
I just won a project where the other company spec'd these with d-link switches.... New projects I wouldn't use these but if the customer has non-POE switches then I would look at them but I would use anther company because they are a lot cheaper.
-
Why would I use this over a POE switch?

Curious what your total bandwidth is coming into your server is. -
Exacq Software vs. Others
thewireguys replied to rkninc's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well I recommend that whatever system you go with is expandable so when you do want to replace or incorporate your analog system that you don't have to replace both systems and waste that money. -

To each is own.... Can I ask why you want to separate systems? -
Exacq Software vs. Others
thewireguys replied to rkninc's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I strongly recommend having one system. Much easier to use, support and search video. -

So you wanna replace your 20 analog cameras with 4 IP cameras or you wanna add 4 IP cameras to your current 20 analog cameras? Do you want 2 systems or one big one? -
For small camera counts that switch will work fine. FWI all you need to do is calculate your total bandwidth from your cameras and this will tell you if this switch will support your needs

Keep me posted I am very curious to hear how this goes. We installed a 200 channel Avigilon system for a customer and one of their other locations went with OnSSI. We installed our system in 3 weeks and we haven't had any issues. The OnSSI site had 30 - 40 cameras and it took them over 3 months to get it working and they told me they are still having issues. To be fair I don't know if the integrator didn't know what they doing or if they had issues with the software.
-
I would run away from this project as fast as you can. From my dealings with OnSSI it is very buggy and needs huge processing power to work reliably. Also all of the customers that I talk to that currently have OnSSI are way to interested in jumping ship. Im also surprised that they are letting you sell OnSSI without going to certification class. When I talked to them they would not let me have a demo copy until I went to training. I told them if I HAD to go to a training class to learn how to install their software I wasn't interested.

Vivotek or Acti. ?
thewireguys replied to Zohan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks....What good is a camera if it is unreliable.....i'm going with acti....plus it has this tool coming out which I cant wait to get... http://www.acti.com/product/detail/Camera_Installation_Kit/PMON-1001 Seems like the only bad things anyone has said about the tcm-1231 is before it has been set up properly.... Battery powered wireless router....
