central recording system or multiple NVRs
thewireguys replied to jeromephone's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
@Soundy that is a nice feature. What is the max number of cameras you have used when you are using iSCSi for storage? -
central recording system or multiple NVRs
thewireguys replied to jeromephone's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Not many VMSs can record directly to a NAS device. Most can record to iSCSI box. If you get a NAS that supports iSCSI you will be good to go. I would find out what the customer wants. For our larger customers they have requested to have all storage/servers located in the same location. These customers have be single sites but over very large properties. For a multi site customer I would recommend servers at each location so if the WAN/leased line went down they would still have recording. I have also found it's best to give the customer both options and let them make the decision. -

thewireguys replied to mike_va's topic in System Design
^^Don't show that image to Rory he says Raytec's don't work. I have used the Raytec Platinum 200 to push the light out to 300ft but it is 850 and does have a red glow. http://www.rayteccctv.com/media/products/19_datasheet.pdf -
If your not setting your DVR/NVR as a static or reserved IP your just asking for remote connectivity issues.

Where to buy concealment devices
thewireguys replied to need2shave's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
need2shave.... I am in your same boat. I have been looking for pre build covert housings and all of the ones that I have found I can build cheaper. Plus we have found every customer is different so you will need to adapt for every customer. -

good luck. Your best (cheapest) bet is to build your own box. -
Ground Loop in System, DVR has Ground, where to connect?
thewireguys replied to coreyman's topic in Digital Video Recorders
So you will spend the time to make it look good but you don't wanna spend the money for the right product to make it right Doesn't make much sense Use good baluns and get swap out that power supply and your problems will go away. -
Bulk component and ethernet all in one

I used to pull lots of that bundled cable back in the day. -
There was time when my 18V cordless was indispensable, but as time becomes more crucial I have to use my SDS drill more and more. I have brought my dad's B&D electric out of retirement for drilling applications that need a bit more power too such as hole sawing in wood or plywood. My cordless is still very useful for running conduit (it's a hammer action too) and drilling for the conduit saddles and inserting screws. For masonry there's nothing close to an SDS droll though. My fav brand is Makita, no other comes close in my mind. This is my go to SDS drill.

Did you check the voltage with the camera connected and powered up? -
See after all that ***ing and moaning about Avigilon's prices and you got a good deal
-
What is it? Avigilon? Exacq? looks like :/
thewireguys replied to Maniek's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Exacq OEM's for a couple of company's like this but this is the only Avigilon OEM and it is not the full Avigilon line and has some limited features. -
^^ agreed DDNS is just one more thing to go wrong.

I was doing that 10 years ago with DVRs over the internet. So you had to have a electrician wire all of your lights and then cable all them back to the DVR with relays to use the DVR to turn the lights on and off. Sounds very expensive. How exactly did you control the dimming of the lights with the trigger output of the DVR? Could your DVR auto adjust the brightness of the lights individually?

Why does this person want no red glow? -
Don't waste your money on that mid span. You can get 24 port POE switchfor a lot less. Have a look a Netgear switches.

I have used Raytec's and Iluminar's White and IR LED lights. When you pick the CORRECT unit for your needs they work fantastic. Also with the ability to turn them on and off via your VMS/DVR or video analytics you can have a very powerful theft deterrent solution. Personally I am looking forward to when you can control White and IR LED lighting through IP on your VMS system. The abilty to turn all of your lights on and off or adjust the brightness based on events would be a very powerful solution.

in the case of the brand you mentioned, hardly. Use regular lighting and save your money. Rory just because you didn't read the directions doesn't mean a product sucks.

Milestone Crashes
thewireguys replied to SEANHAWG's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yea I agree RS232 upgrades on a IP camera sounds like a bad product design.
