Trying to connect to my new supermicro server with IPMI and I can't get it connect with the View software. Anyone have any experience with it? I have a static IP assigned to IPMI in the bios on the same subnet as my test machine and I can not ping it. What's the trick?

The IPMI runs on the same NIC I am using for my windows network card. The IPMI in the bios will not receive a DHCP but the same NIC in windows works fine.

We just replaced a whole bunch of DVRs with encoders and we discovered that all of the ground loop issues went away. So you can add that to the list of advantages with using encoders.

If you try a battery powered test monitor this will show you if the inference is a ground loop or not. Unplug the cable from the back of the dvr and connect it to the monitor. -

Sounds like a compression issue. Are you viewing the cameras from a monitor connected directly to the DVR or are you viewing the cameras using a computer over the network? Does this happen when you hook up a test monitor directly to the camera? -

Plus if your running 12DC over cat5 900+ feet is not a good idea. Can you post a screen shot from one of the cameras you are having issues with? -

Camera Brand Advice, Pelco, Avigilon, or another?
thewireguys replied to threed's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The only time our servers are down is when we upgrade the VMS software which takes about 3 minutes. Avigilon can also do fail over recording up to 2 backup servers and redundant recording. You can also backup recorded video to a NAS or other storage device. I have found Avigilon's motion detection to work very well. Out doors you can have some issues with ANY pixel based motion system when object are far away but with Avigilon you can do "ramp up" recording so you don't miss anything. Record 1 image a second and ramp up to 15FPS when there is motion. All Avigilon servers are enterprise grade with Dells onsite warranty. -

All the server specs are on the website. You can buy Avigilon servers if you like they are Dell's. -

Are you happy with Exacq's ability to search video on your megapixel cameras? How long does it take you to search a weeks worth of video on 8 cameras? First off I have no need to search a weeks worth of video on 8 cameras. Would not have time to search through all that. Would go through them by 2's or 4's. I cant set and try to watch 8 camera playback at one time. I would not even know how to guesstimate that. Takes about 1 minute to pull up video on 4 cameras in a 3 hour time frame. The video is available instantly on Avigilon. No waiting for the video to be downloaded to the client machines. You can review/search months worth of video in seconds. -

The difference is Avigilon was deigned from the ground up for HD megapixel video where 99% of the other VMS's have come from the analog day. I have found the Avigion cameras to be very good and when they are used with Avigilon's VMS they make for a very powerful solution. Avigilon's cameras are priced very well but when your looking at a system of your size you should look at the whole solution's cost including the yearly "upgrade fees". Which Avigilon does not have. -

I strongly recommend Avigilon. Normally what we do for our new customers is install a demo system for a week or two for them to kick the tires. We haven't lost a project yet when we do this. If you need a local Avigilon dealer let me know I can get you in contact with someone. How many total cameras are you looking at? -

Where is your school located? -
^^ maybe you guys are not looking at the right software and encoders And again I am not talking about Costco type equipment. This is professional gear.
-
Disagree. Encoders give you more flexibly with system design and system expandability. Plus you get much better VMS software then most DVRs. I would use encoders any day over a DVR and I can do it cheaper then professional-hyprid DVRs.
-
Those images are not bad. So it will depend on the encoder you plan on using. What cameras are those images from?

Question about encoders? If I put an encoder in place and over time replace analog cameras with ip will that not render the encoder obsolete once I have all analog cameras replaced? This is where my knowledge of encoders is limited. Thanks You are correct the encoder will not be needed once all cameras are replaced with IP cameras.

Exacq EL Mini Issues
thewireguys replied to Megapixelman's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hi mega. the EL has a max limit of 10mp in total so your 12mp is just making it work harder 10MP is the maximum camera resolution supported per channel not total resolution supported by the unit. Up to 10 Mpixel camera dependant -
