  1. The Sony's have some of the best WDR I have seen and yes the IR is intelligent. "Day/Night with built-in IR Illuminators - clearly see objects in the dark (o lx) up to 15m away. IR automatically adjusts intensity to avoid hot spots in the image"
  2. I have yet to hear anyone like Pelco's IP cameras besides my rep....lol
  3. Sanyo is closing it's doors in the fall so I would stay away. Sony makes a very nice camera with very good image quality. I think that camera has intelligent IR so you will not have issues when objects get close to the camera with the IR on.
  4. It would be even easier just to put dual nics in the server.

How long are the runs from the PSU to the cameras? What is the Amp rating of the PSU?

    "Cheap Camera Syndrome"?

I have not good experiences with Speco over the years but that is just me. One thing to keep in mind is support and with bigger names like Panasonic, Sony, Bosch..... you get a company behind you to support you. The cheap cameras may work for now but they could die tomorrow and you have nothing to support you. Example: I just had a Avigilon camera go bad (first one ever). Called support on Monday (which is a holiday for them FYI) They are sent me a new one over night, no questions asked.

    Power adapter for cameras

I do almost all IP now so I haven't sold a PSU in a while. I have used Altronix, ELK, MG and MW power supplies when I need to power other devices. For POE mostly Netgear but just finishing up a large IP project with HP Pro-Curve switches.

    Power adapter for cameras

and now that i think of it, there was just a posting about an expensive Bosch camera that took a dump, obviously not a cheap ebay special.... heres the exact comment , "Im thinking it might have just been some component in the camera that overheated. Ive had the EX82s at the same location for literally 10 years without issue though, same black housing. I also have some cheap cameras there, never lost one of them. BTW the EX30 retails in the $1700-$2000 area." now here you have a non-cheap "eBay special", that crapped out in 3 days......irregardless why it crapped out, it still did.... heres the link for that: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26451 i have also read posts that speak of using ebay IRs that, were providing just what the buyer was looking for... what i am trying to say is, you don't right away have to down an item just because it was purchased on ebay, and also , i am curious, just what would you accept as a fair amount of time for a wall PSU to last... finally, if you know anything about electronics, you should know there are a vast array of reasons why something would fail...it doesn't have to be build quality... Wow really? " title="Applause" /> I know the camera Rory is using and my post had NOTHING to do with that. Not sure why you brought that up but I was referring to the components used in EBAY power supplies. Guess you took offence to my post.

    What do you suggest.

Do you mean Milestone? If he is going all Axis you could use Axis's VMS but I would use Milestone again. Maybe if you have the MAC address of the computer that was stolen Milestone can void the licenses and give you a reactivated license on the new machine.

Let use know how long that Ebay special lasts.
  14. Try a different VMS and that will give you your answer.
  15. I tried to sell a car restoration client on a system like this where the customers could log in and view the progress of there cars. I never got the job but I thought it was an interesting idea.

Need Advice on a Quality System Design

@CameraGuy5 - If your using anything less then enterprise grade wireless and you expect a reliable system you will be very disappointed. Pull cat5e to the cameras!! @garyswine - Are you using analog cameras or network cameras? I think your referring to DVRs not servers.
  23. Say he has 4 sites at 256k each and 4 users that wanted to access each site, that means each user would get 56k a site. If he streamed all 4 sites to the server at 256k each the server could then restream at the full 256k to each user. Well the will depend on the VMS that he uses. Some VMS software when you connect to the cameras from the client you connect directly to the camera other you connect to the server. So then correct name that he should be using is a "restreaming server" at the headend but you will still have to stream ALL cameras to that server so it will handle the client connections. "Say he has 4 sites at 256k each and 4 users that wanted to access each site, that means each user would get 56k a site. If he streamed all 4 sites to the server at 256k each the server could then restream at the full 256k to each user." If he has 4 cameras at the remote site they will have to share the upload bandwidth to the restreaming server and they will be limited to the same 256K.
