Terminating CAT5 with RJ45 plugs
thewireguys replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
The correct way to install Cat5/Cat6 to cameras is install a jack and run a patch cable. But this is a major PITA and I just terminate the cable, cert and plug direct in to the camera. -

They're both universal, the benefit of a standards-based structured cabling plant is that you can use it for all kinds of devices. In fact, T568B came about by the "phone company". When this stuff was all being ratified in the late 80's/early 90's time frame, the original wiring color code for 8C twisted pair cabling was just "T568", which is what we now call "T568A". However, by the time the whole thing was settled, AT&T (and this was back when AT&T had clout) had been doing what became known as "T568B" color-pattern punchdowns for several years, across hundreds of thousands of lines. They basically said "we can't be put in a position where a customer could think we did things in a non-standard way", so T568B was shortly introduced as an "alternate acceptable wiring pattern". The US was ahead of the curve on these rollouts, with AT&T at the forefront, so this is why you see 568B primarily in North America, and T568A everywhere else. The way I was taught T568A was for Phones. Blue= line1 Organge = line2 Green = line 3 Brown = line 4 All D-MARKS in my area have been used this way from the phone company's -
VideoIQ can do all of that too. The camera has trigger i/o to turn on sirens, LED lights, strobes, smoke whatever you want. Plus VideoIQ can tell you the difference between a person and car trigger different events. Think of them as super motion detectors.

VideoIQ does both with 2-way audio if you want. Police are giving priority to video verified alarms around here. Also with you door contact you are ONLY getting an alarm IF someone opens the door. With VideoIQ you will get a alarm well before they get near your front door.

In the US T568B is for data and T568A phone. I can't tell you how many thousands of RJ-45's I have punched or crimped over the years but the one thing I have learned is cert EVERY run you do. -
Avigilon Motion Detection

Have you looked at VideoIQ yet? I still think that is the best solution for your needs and it meets all of your requirements listed above. -

For email to work on Avigilon you must have a local email server or your local ISP. -

Try setting up the motion window in the camera and see what happens. -
In the typical outdoor scenario our camera DOES replace a burglar alarm. That's how it works, we've got a slew of video central station partners building profitable businesses around getting valid events, and screening out all the nuisance alarms and garbage you get from outdoor beams and motions that make it impossible for those technologies to be a reliable replacement. I dont agree. I agree it has a place, but its not a replacement - BTW there is more to an alarm than just Beams and Motions. Not even the camera/system manufacturer would be so bold to say it replaces a good burglar alarm system. Its similar to saying a door contact replaces a lock. VideoIQ is not your normal camera solution. It is a alarm system and a camera system all in one package.

IMO They are a total waste of money, definitely NOT a lot of light and I used 2 models. The light they emit is hardly useful for CCTV cameras and yet its so bright on the eyes its painful, better off using Infrared, a Dusk to dawn or motion lighting. What spectrum of visible light is not usable by CCTV cameras? I'm curious what camera(s) you tested with, my results with the Raytec units have been similar to Thewireguys', they've worked well. CNB monalisa's. Raytec's support materials do mention that their White light is nothing near as good as IR. $700 and it barely pushes beyond 50' // got to be kidding me. I was using Extreme CCTV IR for a decade at a lot less $$ and it worked 10 times better. Rory I had a demo of the Raylux 25 and that unit pushed light well beyond 50ft and that is the smallest LED unit they make. Maybe analog cameras can't see the white light as good as MP cameras

PT unit for IP camera

Avigilon has 485 output for PTZ control -
Are you kidding me man? Guys that push no name products from China don't last long around here. They get NO support and products that NEVER do that the manufacture claims. I test every single piece of gear BEFORE I begin to sell it to end users. You might wanna do a little research before you make claims like this. By the time you buy the beams and run all the cables for control and power and get them installed VideoIQ will be cheaper and a better solution.

Roy I think you have got defective units because the the units that I have more then enough light for the 2MP camera I was using.

Thanks guys. Yes I am aware of Pelico's housings but I am looking for a DOME style.

Any one have any recommendations for explosion proof DOME housings? I don't need the cameras just the housings. Thank you

The small Ratec's are not that bad. The White LED units throw a lot of light.

Dedicated outlets are not a bad idea

What cameras and VMS are you using?

VideoIQ is the real deal. PTZs have moving parts that can fail and most PTZ only have a 6 month warranty. You can detect people cars and boats day or night 24/7 (with IR or white light) with minimum false positives. You can trigger events or alerts based off rules. If you just want to receive and email only when 2 people are on your lot for more then 5 seconds you can do that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1RdBtHcaGw

Yes you can view VideoIQ cameras on your Iphone/Ipad
