# of cameras and limit writing to 1 hard drive continuously?
thewireguys replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Welll, that's a shame. I would, and do recommend it. FYI, we are discussing disk storage, and so MB is appropriate. Were it networking then Mb would be. BIG difference, like a factor of ten. Well I am glad your not in the IP video business then And no,,,,, I was talking about bandwidth Mb/s you then did your caluations on MB/s -

# of cameras and limit writing to 1 hard drive continuously?
thewireguys replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
No I would never use WB Green for video storage or would I recommend a software RAID for video... Well not if you want anything reliable. Also I said Mb/s not MB/s... BIG difference -
Well since you asked Dream system: Aviglon and VideoIQ with 2-way audio and Ratec IR/White LEDs

That is correct and you will need a good RAID card for video. -
comparing the VideoIQ with Mobotix M12 and AXIS 1346-E
thewireguys replied to junkjunk13's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
That is a nice shot indeed however I am afraid above my budget. If I am correct I would need the cam with all the following accesoiries to be able to put it outdoor on a wall: Price model Descr $985 5.0MP-HD-DN 5.0 Megapixel HD Day/Night $173 ES-HD Standard Format Enclosure for Avigilon HD Color IP Cameras. Max combined camera and lens length is 6.8" (17.27 cm). $469 ES-HD-HB Standard Format Enclosure for Avigilon HD Color IP Cameras with 24 VAC Heater/Blower. Maximum combined camera and lens length is 9" (12.7 cm). $72 ES-OPT-WALL-S Wall Mount for ES-HD, supports up to 20lbs (9.1 kg) $55 SS-ES-HB Sun shroud for ES-HD-HB, reduces internal temperature by 10-15°F (6-10°C). And I am not sure if the lens is included. If the lens is included the cost of the camera with accesories is indeed not to much compared to the AXIS 1346-E however it is JPEG2000 and I did not find a NAS/video-recording-software combination that is around the price of the Synology 1511+ with the 4-pack Synology CAM licenses. The Synology and QNAP are not compatible with this cam. In other words the price of the cams is ok but you would also need a strong investment on storage/video-recording-software. Not sure where you getting the prices but you can use any housing you want. You could get the Avigilon 5MP with the housing and lens for the same price as the Axis. But if you went with the 3MP it would be cheaper then Axis. I am not a big fan of QNAP or Synology I find there software to be clunky and slow compared to full VMS software. When you have to search though days or weeks of video you will understand. Avigilon's VMS will run on computers with the same specs as the NAS from QNAP or Synology so power savings is a wash. -

thewireguys replied to destro_23's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Don't say I didn't help FYI I was not pushing Avigilon I was just correcting Soundys link. But since you brought it up Avigilon is NOT a proprietary solution and they have the SDK on the price list. -
comparing the VideoIQ with Mobotix M12 and AXIS 1346-E
thewireguys replied to junkjunk13's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
That is indeed a very interesting solution. That is why I am would like to see the resolution compared to axis P1346-E and Mobotix M12. I prefer to have a less performant motion detection (at the cost of having more detection and capture more data) as long as the footage is usable. Once again my main goal is face-recognition. Well of your main goal is recognition I would look at Avigilon and JPEG2000. Here is a shot from the 5MP JPEG2000 camera. -

comparing the VideoIQ with Mobotix M12 and AXIS 1346-E
thewireguys replied to junkjunk13's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
VideoIQ is a very good solution but where it is most powerful (I think) is detecting and alerting on event. You can setup rules when "object (Person Vehicle or Boat)" is present in ROI or Object crosses a Line THEN record, email, trigger output. I have been using and installing them for a couple of months and they do exactly what they say they can do. When you send the email is sent you get email with links that you can click on and see the alarm or live video on your computer or your iPhone/Ipad. VideoIQ gives you the ability to prevent/deter the crime from happening. -
# of cameras and limit writing to 1 hard drive continuously?
thewireguys replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks, noted. Would like to understand this so I can know what is limiting the system. The other possibility is the processor, so may try an I7 if it's not the hard drive. Processor and memory don't have much to do with recording. I have a dual core atom recording over 100Mb/s stream and it hardly breaks a sweat. -

IP megapix solution for Bar/restaurant low light?
thewireguys replied to destro_23's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
He is talking about the Avigilon 11MP and 16MP cameras. Which are amazing FYI http://www.avigilon.com/products/datasheets/ENG/HD-Pro-IP-Cameras.pdf Also according to the spec sheet the 10MP Arecont will fit in this housing depending on the lens then you choose. http://www.arecontvision.com/4inch-dome.html -
IP megapix solution for Bar/restaurant low light?
thewireguys replied to destro_23's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Arecont 10MP will work very well for parking lots but when the 10MP switches to B/W mode it is not 10MP anymore it's about 2.5ish to get the best low light performance . Keep that in mind when your doing your PPF calculations. If I remember correctly you can keep the camera in 10MP mode at night but you will need LOTS of light. Also you have to option of 1080P mode. I would use SPACECOM lenses but they are not cheap and they are big. Housing well I would not put the Areconts in a small housing because they do get hot. -

Mobotix is designed to do this and they have free VMS software. Axis can write to folders but I think you would get sick of digging though folders to view video. FYI Mobotix can record to any network share. It does not care as long as it can write fast enough. If your putting the cameras outside you WILL have a lot of motion events. Remember both (Axis and Mobotix) cameras do pixel based motion detection so ANYTHING that is motion will be recorded. Rain, snow, trees, dogs, spiders.... etc Personally I like Mobotix's motion detection better then Axis's. If you want a way simpler solution I would look at VideoIQ. All recording is stored in the cameras and they have intelligent video that can detect people cars and boats. You would NOT need a computer or NAS running all the time. Only to view recorded video. IP megapix solution for Bar/restaurant low light?
thewireguys replied to destro_23's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
+1000 Yeah, I'm going to pass on that. I am going to buy the Arecont 10 Mp, but I've asked and asked here about lenses, enclosure, etc, not even able to get the simplest information like whether it correctly switches from night-day. The absolute only information I have is what I have managed to dig up myself. And yet I see that several here have installed many of this same camera... the only reason they do not respond is their commercial/mercenary intent. Attitudes like this lead to me making a bad mistake on the Mobotix M12, losing $hundreds. The purpose of a forum like this is to share information. Those like thewireguys are here only to -take- and -take-, like parasites, so I will do the same. Now, in this I do not refer to Soundy, Sawbones, and a couple of others who actually share information, but those who have admitted installing this camera and have remained mute. Quantum your crazy I asked you 2 times what are you using the camera for and you have YET to answer it. I have no problems helping respectful people but you are not one of them. Maybe you should think about how you talk to people and maybe you would understand why no one is rushing you help you. You did this in another tread. People tried to help you an then you started to get an attitude with everyone. Then you start saying the camera sucks because you don't know what your doing. I can not (nor anyone else) recommend a camera, housing or lens without know what you going to use the camera for (which I asked you twice). If your gonna continue to act like this I recommend you look for FREE help else where. -
