Hope this is right place for question.... I have 2 Lorex 8-Channel HD IP NVR's in my home which is working great. Only problem I have is gaining remote access to one of them via WAN. Seemed to work for initial setup then stops. I am logging in via lorex remote app or PC client. I think my problem is related to adding a netgear wireless booster on first floor where on of the DVR'S are wired in (cat5e)... LAN is>modem>router>various PC's,MACS,wireless devices>downstairs netgear wireless booster>second DVR wired in CAT5e>also acting as another Access Point different name..... Everything is working fine I can log into both when on LAN. When I try WAN only can log into DVR that is plugged into router.... thoughts? I am thinking maybe in the lines of DMZ but booster doesn't seem to have a IP or acting as a router, not sure how it even works I am still few years back on my technology lol....assuming it acts as a wireless switch but if it did it router should forward to 2nd dvr.... Confused on this one any thoughts will be appreciated. TY to all that offer their support on forums...

Ok bought and set up my cctv system 2 years ago and was never happy with its performance. I needed it many times and was never able to get anything useful out of recordings. I think its time to upgrade because system is pretty useless. I don't want to call online store like last time because I can explain what I want but they never recommend the right stuff. Anyway here is my system: Geovisions GV- 650 capture card in a XP machine 2.8 ghz cpu decent vidoe card and 2gigs of RAM... Cameras are 4 KPC-S50NV1 2 are 6mm and 2 are 3.6 lenses Now I tried different lenses as per salesman and this is the setup they requested.... I cannot even see a face without burr.. forget about zoom nothing... This setup is in front of my home and I need it to see the street which is about 50 to 60 feet long and 50 to 60 feet wide- one camera covering this with a 6mm lens "I believe not sure I would have to double check"...It is also black and white. "would love to get pate numbers also, right know I can hardly make out the car make" camera 2 and 3 are 3.6mm for close ups and to get descriptions of people and faces. Also right now almost impossible to make out faces night or day. Basically I need a system that is high in quality day and night able to see plates and faces from say 10 to 30 yards max. I asked the salesperson this last time and obviously he was way off. I told him I wanted to be able to pull an object out of someones hand. Zoom does absolutely nothing right now. thanks in advance! sorry if this is not actually a good post but not really good at cctv systems I can post pic shots of cameras if that will help more....

Ok hear is the mission I been living in this home for 13 years and same person has scratched, painted around 8 to 10 cars "lost count" have police reports and detectives notified.....The punk comes back randomly and mostly when I get a new car.......Lets just say the punk just got 3 of my cars two nights ago...... I am about to explode and start baseball batting all mu subjects on my list "venting"..... Ok i tried cameras on my house and they come with hoods and mask "dont work" My mission COST IS UNLIMITED ON THIS ONE "really really really want this punk..... I am thinking of setting this up away from house with 360 degree cameras hidden inside car so anyone coming within 5 feet is recorded ! I would want full zooms of face the whole works....Asking PLEASE to all the pros and experienced people to think outside the box on this one ..... Because if i don't catch this punk put him into the hospital it will never stop! I think I can lure this punk back after it is painted and all shiny "new truck" and I also put signs on all my cars telling the punk to come see me instead of scratching my cars like a PUNK... and if anyone is in my area let me know because I have no clue how to work on cars and installation......... sorry for venting but kinda ticked off! I will be watching this thread closely any info is MUCH appreciated.....

put it on hold got to confusing lol will do it in near future.....starting another thread on a small project..... -
To start I like to say TY to anyone that helps on this project in advance. I am looking to add a system to my home for few reasons but mostly for IN CASE something ever happens. I did some research but more I read more confused I get in making a decision. Basically I would like to build a system piece by piece so I can add as I go. I would like a PC with card as I am kind of a gadget kinda guy and like to play with electronics and form my point think it has more options as settings, upgrades. Understand about ad ware and viruses but going to be dedicated to surveillance no browsing or software downloads. I am thinking up to 16 cameras or possibly 32 "not sure yet" going to upload pics as I see members give location advise also which is awesome. I am familiar with GEO had a system of theirs and was pretty happy with it open to options. FPS I understand need to be 30FPS per camera to get best motion on play back which I had issues with in the past never satisfied with quality on playback. Also understand color is better for night and day "might be wrong"? zooming in and getting a plate or face also has been a nightmare on previous system. Therefore looking to build a system one piece at a time adding cameras as budget permits. So I like to get the best PC,standalone, FPS cameras for my needs. Obviously Ill start with PC/standalone and at least one camera wow long post- was looking at GEO system through a third party but notice there PC's are way over priced and cheap cards. So might just get my own PC and pick my own setup such as RAM, video card, HDD ETC....I have some knowledge about networking so also on fence with IP/analog or analog with boulons "think that's right" coax to IP .... TY stop here see where it goes Ill try and get a pic up of house from front then will add more as we progress. To all that contribute to this forum I thank you again...I am also a forum guy that gives back when I can

if I go with Milestone NVR software on my own PC "with system requirements or above" I run cameras "compatible" add to my Home Private network and software will detect and record ? Assuming this will slow down my network for regular browsing correct ? and PoE switch for power ? TY sorry if this is basic questions new to IP cameras Had a geo analog system before.

makes sense and also I noticed using a PC you get better bang for your buck. Now next question I see capture cards for BNC analog don't think I seen one for IP - Cat 5 - RJ45 does it need to be converted with the adapters? does the companies you mentioned have the cards? basically how to tie i the runs of all cameras rj45 into PC ? Thanks again

Think I am going to go with IP's and NVR but was thinking of purchaing a NVR box instead of PC's figuring there just as good but without options of an OS. Is NVR software equal to PC based software? How about the companies CoSTCO carries? Q-See, AvertX, Swann, Lorex, Thanks for input.... more I read more confused lol searching what you advised
-
Makes sense ip or analog? Nvr or pc with card or stand alone. Do cameras come with manual 4x 8x zoom or have to change lens ? How about brands geo good seems most online stores pushing geo? Any online store recommended il call and pic there brains but always seems they advise what they want to push off the shelves. TY for input
-
ok Not sure how man yet just getting started on this...Notice companies on web push what they carry and most carry GEO... TY

guess Ill try another forum

PS there is a whole driveway and much more to cover so I think 16 or 32 will be needed "not sure"

IP cameras don't use your capture card - they just send the data via TCP/IP network (hence the name). You could probably run your IP cameras side-by-side with your existing analog cameras for comparison. Almost all of them can be viewed via a web interface, so you don't even need your current software to support them simply for comparing images. yes understand that but will geo software be able to view IP cameras . lets say 4 analog and 3 IP cameras in geo software.-"in a 7 window view" also just noticed acti acm-1231 highest recording is at 8 frames per second. will like it bit higher with sound over poe -

Ok thanks again for the great advise. One more ? I was thinking of implementing this step by step process for instance. Will I be able to install one IP camera or just replace existing one need be and run off same geovision 650 caoture card. Anotherwords I would like to test this step by step before jumping right in and buying everything and ripping out old stuff. Maybe I can add to existing system and upgrade as needed after testing. Hope that made sense -

Do these camera has sunshields ? Seems you get some backlight from the IR leds? JD Yes they do but I am in the process of upgrading them to IP cameras. "As the ones there are useless " so far looks like this: 2 AV5155DN's for position 1 and 2 "but been reading here on flat mounted domes and rain is a no no" 1 ACM-1231 for position 3 "but was researching comparable one with sound" was wondering if its good positions for new cameras? thanks -

ok this is the setup I am most likely going to start to build ! Now I am giong to research the software you suggested and also double check PC specs with software requirements. looks like LuxRiot you can run both IP and analog cameras correct? think my geovision will work? also why does one come with a heater is it also used as a PTZ? which lenses do I get for the 2 AV5155DN's 4-10mm or 8-16mm? I am guessing I will have to manually adjust zoom from 4-10 or 8-16 correct? also the bullet seems to have audio "does audio run over Ethernet also"? sorry if these are basic questions but I am a true newbie in this thanks again -

What you see in the pics I supplied that is it ! Just the driveway and street. I have 3 cams out there now! and suggested was 5. So I was assuming for all possible FOV's correct or 5 will be over kill? -

volito replied to volito's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I think that will be kinda minor as the server will cost around 700 correct ? I guess your gonna agree with the camera pics and rest? And I am guessing the 3 and 2 set up will be for different FOV's for closeups and distance correct? -

OK let me back up to beginning ! This is getting frustrating Notice in link- picture below 3 people running. What is the best way to get faces and description. Also scan cars in front of house, also people passing and on property as well as identifying a car in street passing by possibly getting a plate a face and definitely get car description. Put your self in my shoes and lets say in plan English punk kids are scratching and painting your property! How to get evidence so I don't put a bullet in someones head I need to protect and catch someone with good enough evidence to prove who it is ! I been going through this for years and cant get evidence with crappy setup in place now. Advise me on a system you would build for YOURSELF to protect your investments. They already cost me lets say 5k ! So lets say my budget is at 4K or no limit if need be ! sorry to sound agitated but just thinking about it ticks me off!
