looking to upgrade my system !
volito replied to volito's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Agree on the focus in pic - say I needed to zoom on the boy scout troop truck, the little rectangle emblem far left it would not show and I seen IP 5MP able to achieve this. I would love the FOV of the pic above and be able to grab the little things on a zoom. As for using old cams and hybrid haven't got that far yet but would be nice to leave in place and use. Still debating on cameras first and also running new lines or using Ethernet over coaxial. I seen one that has a 4 port POE to one coaxial line. Also have geo vision software on a pent 4 but pretty sure I would have to upgrade PC or look into a separate DVR. I actually been studying all day and researching different setups and technology. Just a lot to take in via a couple of days. Just check QOS I guess all NIC cards are default enabled but guess what router doesn't have option. I guess I can throttle trafics other ways. After all this studying I might be able to get a job in the field lol thanks again for all your time and help "Great people and site this is" Ok back to research Also budget just got raised a bit to 3G's "wifee is loving the quality I been showing her and the capabilities it could have" but i still will love to see live shots so I can get past the cameras and move on to next step.. -

cool would love to see sample of the camera also. I don't understand why nobody has good sample of top cameras available. I would just love to test them and just purchase. why is it that you have to purchase set up then test sorry guys for so many questions but drooping 2 to 3 grand and not getting results would be horrible. I seen on that website "above post" that cam was set up say 100 to 200 hundred feet away. Then it looks like when your viewing recording you can take a still and get a GREAT zoom of a face or plate number_ is this possible? Also my home network consist of PC's and does some heavy traffic occasionally would the IP cams on my network cause a bottleneck_say two of the top cams listed above? Thanks again all for your help and sorry for so many ?'s -

Been looking at the av5155dn and they look awesome. One question from this site [edit by mod-store link removed] the samples they have are actual snapshots of the live video and actually get a zoom that great without pixelating or is that a live cam and zooming. basically I would like to know if the cam can record at that distance then when you go back to review it gets a great zoom like that. Is there any other cams with equal quality for say 5 to 6 hundred ? -

Ok definitely decided on IP and going to start to get that cat5 running in place soon. Also been looking at some test video of an ACM 3511 looks impressive but hear its not good at night. Is there anywhere to look at sample video for top grade cameras. I am going to need bullet type as they are easier to mount in my situation. "are bullet and dome equal or is there a difference". Also any recommendations in same price range as the ACM 3511 with equal night shots? Also would love to test how much zoom they can get before it starts to pixelate. Say for example in camera one would I be able to zoom into street and get some detail... As for street view I already had a few detectives in my home and they didn't say anything about the placement of cams. thanks again for all the replies -

more I read the more confused ! OK lets put budget at 2k for now ! Can go up a few hundred if need be... Basically I needed this system a few times and it didn't produce results. If I can put a system that does what I want then budget is not a problem. I just don't want to spend 3k and not get a face when I need it ! -

Yes getting all this thanks. As for dvr can I use existing pc and get a new capture card. Right now I have two pcs and use a kvm switch to go back and forth from main pc to dedicated cctv pc. Or do I have to get a dvr unit ? -

Ok thanks for all the great advise ! I am a true believer of wired is more stable than wireless also. I would start looking at a run of one cat 6 from router to window this weekend. I am also going to pst some pics of camera or just actually put system online so you all can look at it. I believe there is a webpage feature "server". I would look into that tonight and tomorrow morning and hopefully have that ready. Just to double check I would need one cat6 from router to window than just add a switch correct. It would be 100 speed not gigabit as my network is not a up to gig yet. -

Pulling wire will be kinda difficult but not impossible I guess. Remember I ran wire when walls where open. I guess if I have 3 cameras in front of house 2nd floor window. I would have to run one cat6 from first floor office up from router and add another switch upstairs "window" for cameras. How does wireless IP cameras work. I know wired is always more stable but is it an option. Also any comments on running packets over exisiting electrical wire? -

Interesting that sounds interesting can I also use existing electric wiring. I never actually tried it but I know they have devices to use electrical wiring also. Only asking because of the gauge of coaxial I used is very thin and I like to do this write this time. Also does IP cameras use a dedicated PC as server for viewing recordings. I think my PC might need upgrading as video card is ok. And I also get a dirct draw error now with existing setup. I have another PC that I use for daily use but I guess multitasking with security system is a no no. -

Ok hope this post works as I am on my blackberry had to go to work ! I am going to post some pics tonight so all can see. Wire is smallest coax possible if I pull it wire will rip. It is giving good live feeds and decent recordings. I believe it is like all is saying cameras are biggest problem. I been looking at the IP cameras as stated above and they look very nice. I really don't have any ethernet wires located near cameras and almost impossible to get a run in that area without tearing walls apart. I guess when I post some pics you all will know my best options quickly. Thanks again for all your help. -

thanks for the quick replies ! PC is dedicated for cctv only. There is a street light at night I will work on getting pics up as soon as possible. "should have them up by tomorrow" CPU is a Pentium 4 - 2.8ghz with 1 gig of ram Also wires are all ran in walls as I did a reconstruction at the time. BNC connectors with very skinny "mistake" wire ! Megapixal IP not even sure what that is _ assuming it is an IP network cam ! should be able to afford it not really sure what budget is right now ! Guess it depends on which way I go... -
Searched forum and net for my problem found no answers... System - 4 cameras, capture card in dedicated PC. question- I am getting ground loop effects on one camera "scrolling bars up picture". I am 95 % sure it is a splice I made in cable causing this. I searched on easiest way to properly splice a High gauge "small cable approx. 22 gauge" It is also a Combination Video and Power Cable. Is it possible to get a good enough splice so I do not have to pull more cable? Thanks in advance for any tricks or tips.
-
No special method "just stripped wire-twisted middle and power and wrapped braid back around". Also read somewhere to wrap with aluminum foil around splice. If anyone has step by step instructions or best method please advise. Will try some trouble shooting soon and also try a temp run for quick check over weekend. Thanks
-
Thanks for all the advice but unfortunately I won't be able to trouble shoot until the weekend. As for bad cables "I should of known better to trust the sales guy". The only thing I can add is that the quality changes. So it can be interference. I will trouble shoot your suggestions and and post results. Thanks for your time.
