    Camera Mounts

How do I find camera mounts that will hide all cables? I will be mostly placing cameras under the soffit, but some may need to be attached to the wall and I don't want any visible cables. Thanks

    Camera Mounts

I think I will most likely be using one or two vandal domes, and the rest will be bullets. I didn't know they came with heater/blowers. Do most bullets come with mounts that hide the wires? Thanks
  3. How does everyone check camera video and placement around a house? I've read where some people bring 13" monitors and some bring 3" lcd's, but how does everyone power their cameras?
  4. Haven't bought cameras, yet, but most likely will be 24volt. Thanks
  5. I am not in the security business, this is for my residential setup. The reason I ask is because I want to try different locations to see if the view is what I want. I understand I can connect the camera to a monitor, but how do I get power to the camera easily, like with an extension cord or something like that?

    Cat 5e and Power

I will calculate the costs of rg59 vs cat5e and see what comes out cheaper. I'm probably going to run 16/2 or 18/2 with it because I can get it pretty cheap. Can I run the 16/2 or 18/2 beside the rg59? Is plenum rated the kind to get or does it matter? Thanks
  8. I'm going to use cat 5e for my cctv setup. How will I know if the cat 5e is good quality? Can I look for certain writing on the wire itself, can I buy the cat 5e from local electrical supply houses or is it better to order from the net? Can I run 18/2 beside the cat 5e? My runs will not be any longer than 100', would it make sense to use anything other than 18/2? Thanks
  9. Hi, I'm new to cctv, but have been reading and trying to learn as much as I can. I want to install my first home setup and would appreciate some advice before I waste money on bad products. I'm looking for an 8 channel standalone. I want it to have all the features that most DVR's I've seen have. Web viewable, usb port, vga monitor and tv outputs, audio, cd or dvd burner, motion detection, search by date, time, good quality compression, etc. I 'm not sure about the recording options. I would like it to be able to record real time in good quality and would like there to be good quality video on my tv and computer monitor. If someone could explain more about this? I've seen recommendations for Avermedia, GE, Panasonic, Bosch, there are so many different brands I don't even really know what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something around $1000 and would like some suggestions of what I should look into. Thanks

    ICRealtime DVR

Are Security Monster and Kandcorp the only one's here who sell these dvr's? Thanks

    ICRealtime DVR

So I should be looking into the flex for home use? I'm looking to have the dvr hooked up to a monitor and to 2 tv's. I'll have to go to the dvr to change which two channels are being shown on the tv's, right?

    ICRealtime DVR

I have alot of questions written down, but all I can think of right now is: What's the difference between Flex R30, Pro, and Pro II and Will remote viewing work with firefox or will I have to use IE?

    ICRealtime DVR

I still have a few questions about this dvr, so I won't be buying right away. Thanks

    1st DVR. Need some help.

I guess I will need to shop around. Just grabbing a couple of quick prices off the internet, for the parts you suggested, comes to a good bit of money. I probably don't need the quad core or the 4GB of ram so maybe it isn't that much. I'll check into it. Do you think the GV-2008 is any better or worse than the IC Realtime?

    DSL modem

I would think commercial, too, but I don't know for sure.

    DSL modem

I'm new to cctv and I'm trying to get most things figured out before I buy anything. I have AT&T DSL with a Netopia modem. It has one ethernet, one usb, and one dsl plug on the back. Can I use this to view video over the internet or do I have to buy a router? I haven't purchased a DVR, yet, but it will most likely be a standalone. Thanks

    DSL modem

Scorpion, I've built and setup a couple of computers, but never any with networking or routers. I'm pretty sure I can figure it out with help from this forum. I don't want wireless so I'm looking for a good wired router right now. Any suggestions on one that will not affect my speed and that will be easy to configure with a dvr?

    1st DVR. Need some help.

Thanks Rory, but that setup seems a little expensive. Scorpion, I looked into the IC Realtime and it seems pretty good. It has good reviews here from you and others. I just need to find out a little more about it. Thanks

    DSL modem

Will a hub or switch do the same as a router? If I do get a router, the connection should go from the wall, to the router, to the netopia and to dvr or which way? Thanks for the help.

    DSL modem

Scorpion, I have one computer, the netopia, and will get a dvr soon. I only have one ethernet connection on the netopia and one ethernet on my computer. Also, are there any security issues with having videos on the internet?

    DSL modem

When I looked at the page you referred to, the modem (Netopia 2241N) I have is also a router. That's why I asked how to make the connection from the modem to the dvr? I guess I will need a hub or a switch? I'm trying to go without getting a wireless router. Thanks

Do I need to get a hub or switch to make the connection from my modem to the DVR? Thanks

    1st DVR. Need some help.

Thanks RickA. I'm currently looking around for an 8 channel stand alone that will record 240fps at D1 or close to it and that will play back recordings at that high resolution. Have any ideas? I'll keep looking, but hopefully someone can narrow down my search. If this isn't possible with a stand alone, is my only option something like a geo card in a pc? Thanks
  24. Rory, is twist on better than the crimp style? Are all bnc connectors the same, quality wise, or are some vendors better than others? Do you recommend a specific type of stripper?
