    JS-RTA setup

You can setup the DVR to allow access via a web browser, but of course this does not work from an iPhone or iPad because it uses ActiveX which Apple does not allow.

    JS-RTA setup

Question: any idea WHY it does not work? I have tried the surveillance software made for GenIV with a JS-8RTA-D1 DVR and it works. Wonder why wouldn't the IPhone app work ... Has anyone actually tried it? I have tried it with my JS-16RTA-D1 and it does not work. The iPhone app connects (or at least it appears to connect) with the DVR and then immediately disconnects. GenIV confirmed the app is not compatible with any model that does not have an HDMI port.

    JS-RTA setup

Beware! The iPhone app only works with the new G4 DVRs. If your DVR does not have a HDMI port, the iPhone app will not work. I found this out the hard way. The iPhone app does not work with JS models. The app store and the company website says it works with all G4 models, which is a bit misleading. Although the company is GenIV, so theoretically all their DVRs are G4's, they are actually only referring to the newest line of DVRs. Nice way to con people out of $20, while technically telling the truth.

    Where to put DVR

I am installing a stand alone 16 channel dvr in my home. My question is in regards to the location of the unit. It is pretty noisy since the fan runs most of the time, so I was considering putting it in a closet - but I'm concerned about the heat and the unit not having proper ventilation. The closet is about 7 feet tall, 24 inches wide and 24 inches deep. The unit can be rack mounted so I was thinking about putting it in a case which would give me the option of using a rack mounted fan. Any suggestions would be appeciated. Thanks.

    IR Issues

I am using a IR turret dome cameras from Super Circuits. The forum won't let me post the lnk since I am new, but the camera is a CD33VFHR from super circuits During the day the picture is decent, but at night I'm getting mostly a white cloudy glow. The IR's are working - I can see the red glow. There is a landscaping light under the eave of my house that is about 5 feet from the camera, but it is pointing down, not at the camera, so I wouldn't think it would be causing a problem. Even if I turn the camera so the landscaping light is behind it, I still get the glow. Any ideas? I took the camera inside and tested it out in a dark room and it seemed to work ok.
  6. I am in need of DVR for use with my home security cameras. I would like at least an 8 channel since I already have 7 cameras in use, but also considering a 16 channel for the ability to add more cameras in the future. Can anyone please provide some recommendations? I don't need the latest and greatest, just something realiable and affordable. I am looking for something under $1000. I need the ability to remotely monitor via the internet, I need the unit to have a remote control and would like a usb port for connecting an external cd or dvd burner. I have looked at several units at Supercircuits, but it is my understanding that these units may have the supercircuits name on them, but are actually made by someone else. Any information would be appreciated.
