Rory, I think you just gave me an idea Maybe I have to play around with Sharpness settings The first one now looks SO much better when sharp. What software you used to sharpen these up ? -
AV1300DN image quality problem
robert replied to robert's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Rory, can you post snapshot from some very good analog camera? Well, 800$ worth analog camera as AV1300DN cost close to that. I think problem is in that bloody varifocal lense, its so hard to focus it. I cant turn by hand for some 1/10mm to focus it No wonder German company Mobotix does not have ANY varifocal lenses, only full range of fixed. -

Got PoE switch today, did some pics inside an office of AV1300DN. Its SO hard to set varifocal lense in focus. Any ideas how to get lense in focus? It needs to be turned like 1/10 of mm, but you can you do it by hand? Some images ca be downloaded here: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=d2e1392147c1e153d2db6fb9a8902bda -

Just went out in city for night shots with Arecont AV1300DN +varifocal 4-8mm Computar H2Z0414C-MP. 1. You cannot get proper picture at 8mm. Its complete fog. I used both rings which came with lense, still not enough. Then I made extra ring myself from stripped electrical cable Works perfect with 3 rings. But still, I was surprised it doesnt say anywhere, even Arecont has put this lens as "reccomended" 2. Night shots in black&white are CRAP. Thats because of CMOS used in these cameras. CCD would be much better i think. But i do like color pictures, i must say they do look good for color at such a low light conditions. See pictures - you cant see even single number plate because of headlights blinding camera. Little too much light - bad picture. 3. I think that color reproduction of this camera is great, tried many colors, all show up exactly as they are in real. White is white, red is red etc. 4. I am impressed with size, its so small as you just open box. Lense is half of the camera size 5. Arecont software could be better. 6. It says 15-48V DC, but I did get it working with only 12V, no problem at all. I have zipped them all, download from here. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mnimgnwyzih The middle one is what I made myself -
power over ethernet help please
robert replied to garymaule's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
So, i can plug 48v PoE switch stright into lets say 12v PoE camera ? "you have to check docs" What exactly I should be looking at ? Is it "Classification" step which checks what voltage needs to be supplied to camera? -
Which is better for Day/Night? Arecont 3130 or 3100DN
robert replied to stealthyb's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
That would be great if you could set up both and provide day and night images from both -

robert replied to robert's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
But what Pc would you need to record(no live view) Arecont, 3 x Av1300, 15fps@ 1280x1024 each ? This is one thing I dont like about IP cameras, there is no standart way ot calculating tech spec -
power over ethernet help please
robert replied to garymaule's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
If camera is PoE, then you can power it from PoE 48V Switch even camera needs only 12v, it wont damage it. But if device is not PoE, you need splitter to cut off extra and supply exactly 12V. Am I correct in my understanding? -

robert replied to robert's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What encoder? Aren't megapixel camera outputs already encoded? Most are, but that doesn't mean you're going to write in that format, and many NVR's will decode the stream to run motion detection then re-encode. Depends on the software on the NVR end. Luxriot. Doest it VERY matters what software do you use? -

For example Arecont, 3 x Av1300, 15fps@ 1280x1024 each. -
power over ethernet help please
robert replied to garymaule's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
So, it means that PoE switch will check and supply exactly needed voltage to camera?? -
Sounds like a marketing trick Never installed these, just remembered that I have seen Axis PTZ`s on their website.

I`m confused now How to understand this ?

power over ethernet help please
robert replied to garymaule's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
There are 5v, 12v and 48v IP cameras. I know some Axis do 5V and Arecont for example 48V. So If you have camera that needs 12v you need POE 12V Kit or 12V splitter if you power is coming out from PoE Ethernet switch(its 48V). -
Are the cheap IR illuminator from Amazon worth anything?
robert replied to Gesualdo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
NO WAY, waste of money. You wont want to look at those pictures, trust me As long as its not ExtremeCCTV or "Raytec" IR illuminator, its rubbish. I try not to use iR at all, instead normal 500W illuminators. Whats the point of having foggy grey image? Anyway you cant see faces properly. -
I wouldnt buy. Only Arecont, IQ or Axis or any other big names. Even Arecont cameras are not that perfect yet, not talking about some StarDot.

Here we go, Axis do have some. Also: http://www.cieffe.com/products/cameras/IP/nettuno_megadome

Megapixel Camera Questions
robert replied to highspeedphysics's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I had the same questions. After searching google found this: * If your CCD imager is 1/3" you need 1/3" lens, but 1/2" and 2/3" will also fit! * If your CCD imager is 1/2" you need 1/2" lens, but 2/3" will also fit! * If your CCD imager is 2/3" you need 2/3" lens. * Conclusion: you can use same or bigger lenses but not smaller ones.
