I have seen a couple of DVR`s where you have to go into the HD menu and initialize the hard drive first in the settings before it will see it

You can set a site pulse to transmit to arc at a selected interval if its an issue , also add a back up com so it can drop to that if unit cannot transmit alarm via the broadband.

Good old Genie, I purchase for a large UK monitoring company,We had been using genie cams for approx 7years and have around 1200 of their cameras live as we speak. Genie seem to be really going down hill on their products.So much so last month I stopped buying anything from them. Im guessing your problem is the quality of the cameras.Im supprised you got someone out to change the lenses as I wait up to 3months for warrenty repairs from them.My new supplier gives me next day advanced replacement. I had a rep in with the Honeywell AntiVandal dome, will look up model if you need it. I am always dismayed when a rep comes in with an Anti Vandal dome/camera carefully packaged and enclosed in bubble wrap. I would rather see the arrive in a bag of nails or rusty screws myself..... Anyway back to business, (much to the shock of the rep,he was not expecting my sudden test)the Honeywell dome took 6 good hits with a club hammer and although only workshop tested and 12 of them on site the last few weeks Im impressed and will buy more when Anti Vandal domes are required on our systems. Hers one way to go, change ports if you like after you got it cracked. have you static ip from your provider? yes then enter dvr menu/ip setup. use 192.168.1.102 in `static ip` then your subnet then your router ip. Port 554 The go Web settings set port 80.(80 is good as if you got internet you got port 80 In your router.... Port forward port 544 to dvr ip(or setup a device in router) Port forward port 80(or whatever port your using) to dvr ip/device Got to ip setup menu and test connection, ok? If the dvr dont see your router you will be able to connect internaly using dvr ip but not from outside. connect from outside world to your staic ip with :80 (port number) and your in or use net1 software as you already setup port 554 Need explorer, wont work on mozzilla. I find explorer 7 better for dvr. Job done If not setup DNS or go for a beer

A matrix switcher will allow audio and video inputs to be converted out to a different format and also to multiple outputs. A multiplexer will let video in and give video control such as single camera or multiviews to one output and possibly in some cases out to a spot monitor as well.

Yup just connect with network lead, go into settings to find system IP.( once connected test the IP in settings) Then open internet explorer and enter the IP. Watch out for the firewall/anti virus allow messages and the inbuilt software will load from the dvr

If its stand alone go in via the inbuilt web browser. Go to settings to find the unit ip and enter as http:/192.168.1 wotever it is. You dont need to install the software. I got mine at my workshop linked through wireless router, does the job without wires

You get what you pay for, its cheap and cheerful, unreliable. There are better products around for CMS

My portable test monitor has a built in camera with selectable lenses,, kinda makes life easy but usually use varifocal anyway.

Is it a single channel DVr? It should have at least one alarm input as it does list an event search. Have a look in the manual to see if its N/O or N/C contact and the set the movement detector to suit. If not sure set the dvr to record on alarm.(you might have the option in the setup to select N/O N/C.) or connect to wires to the alarm + comm and open and close to loop to see what state changes starts the event record. They usually a logic circuit looking for voltage to read state change. Then find decent motion detector and wire her in. Or if you need 2 then run them in series. good luck

Dont know what the justice system is like over the pond but over here they will do anything and everything to protect the offenders human rights.,with no real concern of victims rights, victims seem 2nd class for some reason. Not going to say much else on the matter as it makes me mad. So Im guessing they grab the DVR`s to keep the evidence trail as tight as possible as not to give the defence another reason for demanding the case is dropped.

We have had this a couple of times when police have come down to our control room to view footage. If its a high priority investigation they will ask for download footage and then sieze the Fastrace transmitter and lock it down to secure the evidence for court .Some forces will have different types to use in there labs but not all have FT units so they grab em,otherwise yeh just take the hardrive. We have 1 coming back this week that has been held for 3months but we had to cover replacement to keep the clients site monitored. Who pays? well we do, but the one we get back will be out again on rental by Monday. We see it as doing our bit but if they took 30 of them well yeh thats a different story as that would give us problems. Not only would we be covering the units but the removal + install cost, someones gotta be paid to do it.

How about an Adpro Fastscan through PSTN , pretty reliable as well

Or how about 3x 2amp supplies fitted into an enclosure. It looks tidy and if a supply dies then you still have some cameras running?
